Dices and not rolling them by Hand...
emmjay replied to Dobougob352's topic in X-Wing Rules Questions
I see dice towers and trays and cups used all the time. Increasingly, especially when space is tight, I even see the Dice App being used, and have done so myself. To answer the OP question, there is nothing in the rules that forbids players from using dice towers, trays, cups, or similar devices. -
Title, ATC, Engine. OPTIONAL: Proton Rockets The EPT slot is usually VI, Predator, or for the insane - PTL.

Is there even a steady group going right now? If so, what day? I am a huge fan of Game of Thrones and would love to get into this game. But, when do people play? Oh, I am free Monday nights and most weekends (work sucks, but need $$).
-
Nope, after you use AC you cannot further modify dice. Use Fcs instead....
-
If you can find a way to add cluster missiles and glitterstim, that one shot is very OP.

Horton Salm (33) -Twin Laser Turret -R2-D6 -Wired Tycho Celchu (30) -Chardaan Refit -A Wing Test Pilot -PTL -Autothrusters -Wired Jake Farrell (31) -Chardaan Refit -A Wing Test Pilot -PTL -Autothrusters -Oppertunist Total Points:94 This leaves 6 Points to modify Horton. Possibly add Engine Upgrade, Shield Upgrade, or even a Hull upgrade. One could even remove the Refit and add Prockets... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tycho and Jake do their thing, flanking and getting in close and being a real pain in the rear. Tycho makes Wired a must include. Enough players know how to play these guys that I am not going to go into details about them. Horton Salm + Wired. This is possibly one of the most non-thought of combos to come out of Starter 2.0. Turn 1 go 4 forward, or any other red maneuver. For fun I have even done the 4K, and do a hard 2 the next turn. The purpose is to get stressed and keep that stress as long as possible. Not only do you get to reroll blanks, but to reroll focus as well makes TLT that much more deadly. Also, it even works on defense so you have a greater chance to repel a damage or two. Finally, it works on EVERY attack and defense roll. I mean, WOW. All for 1 point.

The game state is already at the point that the action that the player took is legal. Them doing anything other than completing the sequence of events that they started is what would make the action illegal. Step one of an attack starts with using the range ruler to measure range and check arcs: "ATTACK A ship can perform one attack when it becomes the active ship during the Combat phase. To perform an attack, the ship resolves the following steps in order: 1. Declare Target: The attacker may measure range to any number of enemy ships and check which enemy ships are inside his firing arc. Then the attacker chooses one of his weapons to attack with. Then he chooses one enemy ship to be the target and pays any costs required for the attack." How do we know which ship is the active ship: "COMBAT PHASE During the Combat phase, each ship has an opportunity to perform one attack, starting with the ship with the highest pilot skill and continuing in descending order. • If a player has multiple ships with the same pilot skill value, he can attack with them in any order. • If both players have ships with the same pilot skill value, the player with initiative attacks with all of his ships of that pilot skill first. • Each ship becomes the active ship only once during this phase. • A ship may choose not to attack." When one player has multiple ships at the same pilot skill they can activate those ships in whatever order they choose. Nowhere in the rules does it state that the player announces which ship they have chosen to make active. Performing an action which is part of the first step of the attack sequence seem like a clear indicator that a choice has been made and what that choice is. Correct, however, the issue I see is the player measuring all of his ships then attacking. He needed to pick just 1 ship at a time. Measuring more than 1 each time, well, no.

Everyone Keeps telling me Wave 8 in November? Where is this info?
emmjay replied to eagletsi111's topic in X-Wing
Look, the HUGE elephant in the room is Worlds. While, yes, for the general public the ships might not come out until December/Jan/Feb.... There will be, like there was a GenCon, an advanced purchase availability of the next wave. -
Big Ship Rule: Not the fix we were looking for
emmjay replied to corran80's topic in X-Wing Rules Questions
What you also fail to mention is how many people (truely) fly 1 Big/1 Small or 2 Big ship lists. Yes, quite a few are out there, but right now there are far to many small ship lists to mention (y w/TLT, 4bz, Vader/Soontir, Miranda/Corran, Swarms) That it won't effect to many builds. Also, and lets be honest, if you know what you are doing as a player flying Han/Corran this ruling won't affect you at all. If you are a competent pilot you know how to get those 100-0 wins. Now, though, it will be closer to 100-30 or so. Just kill your opponent. Finally, this makes people WANT to fight instead of flying in circles..... -
IG-88D question about the pilot ability.
emmjay replied to Lyconnus's topic in X-Wing Rules Questions
Not entirely true. For moving you are totally correct. However, during the attack phase, the player may measure with the range ruler to all potential targets before deciding on one to attack. -
The most expensive valid and playable ship that I found: Chirpy (80 pts) -Expose -Proton Bombs -Advanced Proton Torpedoes -Dauntless Title -Engine Upgrade -Emperor Palpatine -Gunner

Newbie to the FF Star Wars RPG Systems
emmjay replied to Spaceresearcher's topic in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG
Yes, all three game books are fully compatible with one another. The difference is the setting. One takes place as a rebel, one non rebel, one jedi. Now, what makes it fun is mixing and matching. For example, in my campaign we have a wizened old jedi who can't reveal that he is a jedi - or use his lightsaber - for fear of dying or getting killed by the Empire. We also have a Wookie Marauder (melee expert - Edge of the Empire) and a Combat Medic (Age of Rebellion) in the group. They also have some of the same and different ships, weapons, upgrades, and mods. They also contain small stories that are pretty decent. However, the base rules are all the same. -
Yes, however, you don't gain a stress if you are already stressed. Also, say you have gunner on your ship with the Bossk crew card, and miss the second shot as well. Bossk will trigger again, even though you can't shoot a third time...
-
No. You can't perform the same action twice in a round. And BB-8 states that it is an action. Unlike say, Soonter Fel, which just assigns a token....
-
This is correct, the 2nd gunner would never work. Same thing if you do Luke/Gunner. The card states that you are unable to attack again that round.....
-
BBYY isn't bad, in theory. However, there are many ways to make it better. They way you have it now you are trying to do two thing half way, not full way. Either go for DPS or go for stress. Don't bother to do both in BBYY, it doesn't work to well.

Sorry, the book says SHOULD, not MUST. Until FFG states that it is required, it is OPTIONAL. (Rumor has it that at Nova Open it was revealed that it was required starting 2016 for tournaments)

Excuse me? That made no sense. As Frank just said, the target is declared ONLY ONCE. So, why wouldn't it work for both shots? "When a friendly ship declares an attack..." That statement alone should mean it works for both shots..... Think of it this way: "When a friendly ship declares an attack, you may spend a target lock you have on the defender..." This is the cost of activating the ability, and the specific timing window where it triggers. "...to reduce its agility by 1 for that attack." This is the actual effect, and the duration of that effect. TLT's first attack goes through all the normal steps of an attack, which allows Latts' ability to trigger during the Declare Target step. The second attack is treated as an entirely separate attack, and it skips the Declare Target step. Since it's a separate attack, Latts' ability is no longer active if it was triggered for the first attack. Since it has no Declare Target step, there's no opportunity for Latts to trigger her ability if she still has a target lock on the defender. That's why her ability can only apply to TLT's first attack. Edit: To put it another way, TLT provides a normal first attack, followed by an "undeclared" second attack. Then why doesn't Cluster Missiles require a target lock to shoot a second time? You can't have it one way for one upgrade and another way for another. By your own reasoning here, and the email reply, spending the target lock for shot 1, you must spend a target lock for shot 2 to get the same effect.

Boba and Bossk will be quite easy to take down with Han and Dash as they have little damage mitigation and only 1/2 AGI. So, for 100 points, what goes good enough to destroy 2 brobots? Y Wings...... As this looks like a "theme" event of smugglers (non-rebellion) characters, here is how I would build 200 points.... Han Solo (59) -Determination -Falcon Title -Engine -Chewie -Lando Dash Rendar (54) -Marksmanship -HLC -Kyle Katarn -Outrider Title -Experimental Interface Gold Y Wing (31) -Extra Munitions -Bomb Loadout (Cluster Mines) -TLT -R2 Astromech Gold Squadron Y Wing (26) -BTL Title -R3-A2 -TLT Gold Squadron Y Wing -R2 Astromech -TLT About the list: If you are given flexibility with crew choices other than what is listed, go for it (for example, on Han add C-3P0 and Gunner). Dash, however, is how I love to run it. You get the free focus, target lock/barrel roll AND the ability to Marksmanship and get crits in with HLC. One Y Wing is your basic TLT Y Wing, just there to help cover other ships. The 2nd is the stress-hog. Great fun. Finally you have a TLT Y Wing with cluster mines. The truth is you could put just about any bomb/torpedo there. I like cluster mines because they discourage your enemy from following you. However, connon nets are just as painful to hit, but require a bit more skill to place..

Asteroid and Debris Field Placing
emmjay replied to TwizztheHunter's topic in X-Wing Rules Questions
When placing obstacles here is what I do. 1. Try to create lanes and turns in the middle of the board (not in range 2 of edge). 2. Place obstacles at least range 1 but less than range 2 from another to prevent placement of an obstacle in between. 3. I bring Obstacles sized/typed for the ships I am running. For example, when taking large base ships (or swarms) I tend to use smaller obstacles, and when taking small base ships or a 3 ship build type thing, I take larger asteroids. Also, when taking Dash/Soontir/Tycho I take debris tokens instead because they don't care about them. Do I have to get precise with anything above? No. Just a general check of range to make sure that they are legal is all. However, while I don't care about the overall token placement, I to take a moment to place its general location to satisfy 1 and 2, or to setup interesting things with 3. The best thing I love to do when playing Dash is to bring the 3 largest debris tokens and try to get them placed as close to the center of the field as possible. Dash loves them and it discourages opponents from getting to close of my range 1 void. -

I don't believe that this is tournament legal. From what I understand, times are based off a master clock. What I do at my FLGS is have a large master clock so all can see it.
-
1. Since it is not an action, I don't see why not. 2. Since it doesn't say "reveal a dial/maneuver" then again, why not? So, from what I read, yes to both.

Nah. You have the wrong 666 first of all. Latts offers much more damage potential output as it decreased defenses for allied shots, so your two K fighters have a better chance to deal more damage consistently. Glitterstim for that "oh crap" moment. Latts -Engine -Bossk -Weapons Engineer -Gunner Talonbane -Glitterstim -Lightning Reflexes Cartel Marauder -Glitterstim
