Green dice will always betray you! Everytime! Also, in the current game, there are just so many ways to get around them efficiently.

Red Ace w/ R2D2 and Comm Device is a beast. Really tough ship to take down. The issue there is that you are then relying on Poe to use R5-P9 without getting stressed... Ello Atsy with BB-8 and Predator is fun, he can go a lot of places, Blue Ace is pretty similar, he can Barrel Roll, bank out, then boost in for a side shot. I had pretty good luck with: Poe w/ R2D2, VI, AT Red Squad Vet w/ BB8, Crack, AT Red Squad Vet w/ R3A2, Crack, AT Shoots before TLT spam, letting you down one if you are on the ball, and relatively durable and able to reposition. R3A2 is for those PTL users, BB8 gives you some shenanigans, and Poe does what he does.

I've thought about swapping PTL for Predator, but the TL + Focus is just so deadly. I suppose I could lose a little damage output for less stress dependency though.

Just a little update, Red Squadron as it currently stands. I hope to get Red Leader (Garven) and Red 4 (John D. Branon). Branon will just be a Red Squadron Pilot. Left to right, Red 5, Red 2, Red 6, Red 5. Red Leader! And a Kihraxz

FFG would make money from selling the paint that they use.

Vallejo Stone Grey matches up with the T-65 X-Wing base color. -
My 5th Khiraxz arrives today. Should be a good time. Not that much different from my T-65's really, just better close in and with a 5 K-turn.

"When you are dealt a damage card", so you look at the card, and then chuck the droid if you want.
-
Maybe to prevent a Direct Hit or a Crit that prevents you from doing what needs to be done the next turn. I've been running 3 T-65's locally, and it's doing well. Classic Wes, Wedge, Luke. I'm having the same problem with IA, there hasn't really been a great time to use it, always seems the kill shots do enough damage to bypass IA altogether.

50pts is a lot to play with, you'll be looking at one Ace and 12pt ships for the most part. Imperial Kath with Mangler, Tactician, VI, EU at 49pts leaves you an initiative bid. Should be able to put out a lot of stress and hit hard.

The problem, for me, with this build is that you basically limit his dial to four maneuvers. Two banks, and two straights. You can't ever get stressed during combat, because that will shut the whole thing down for a few turns while you still are limited to the greens. Sometimes you don't want (or aren't able) to barrel roll and then you can't use PtL because you might need that barrel roll the next turn. If you drop the PtL for anything else you are then free to use the whole dial and barrel roll when you need it. Predator, at the same cost, allows you a reroll, always. While you might not be able to reroll two or all dice as with a target lock, you will also still be able to reroll if you get blocked or are otherwise unable to acquire a lock. BB-8 and PtL, while enticing, I find a bit of a trap. Just because you have the option doesn't mean you always have to use it. I"ve been running this build, and while there may be turns I don't use it (K-Turn, Stress from PTL without Barrel Rolling, etc) it is pretty lethal. Wedge is a monster with fully modified dice. The only thing I could think of swapping to would be Predator, same cost, one reroll instead but it's all the time for no action.

This is about all it would take. TBH, I would be happy with just a Reduce the Cost of Astros by 1 to a minimum of 0. X-Wings are just about at the right spot. I've been running Wedge, Wes, Luke locally, and they are doing just fine for the most part. It's not a tournament winning list but it's 4-0 currently.

I find that if you put down Talonbane Cobra, everyone guns for that poor bastard...he's a nice defensive buff for the YV-666!
-
For sure, I just like the option to TL and Focus. You could throw Predator on instead though.
-
My attempts at Red 5 and Red 2. Not perfect but I like them. Stock X-Wing on the far right for comparison

I've played builds with Tactician on Vassal, but I don't believe that it's been in any of the ships I've bought so far. One thing that's occurred to me is that Bossk crew will leave the ship stressed quite often. Are you able to use EU often enough to be worth the points? I personally would not use EU on it, but I know a lot of people feel naked without Boost. I'm going to give the list a go on Sunday, it looks hilarious if you can set it up correctly. Tactician is in the TIE Phantom.

Proxy, proxy all the things! You won't have a big enough collection for competitive play until you spend a bit of money or borrow cards, however, with the Old Core Set, New Core Set, X-Wing Blister, and the Reb Transport you can put together a pretty decent XXX List. Wedge + BB8 + Push The Limit + IA Luke + R2D2 + Lone Wolf + IA Wes Janson + R3A2 + Veteran Instincts + IA It works pretty nicely for T-65's. Wes sets them up, Wedge kills them, Luke does what he does and closes the end game.

I wouldn't say better, it's different. The Firespray is a large base ship that wants some finesse, the YV-666 is more like a meat grinder, I tend to ram it into ships, or use the 0 speed maneuver to frustrate their blockers. From there you just start grinding away at ships with Bossk/Gunner. So far Latts is my favorite pilot for it, I typically use it with Weapons Engineer, Bossk, Gunner. Acts as support for a Black Sun Ace and Talonbane. The target lock discard for -1 agility on enemy ship is great, turns everyone into Wedge. Shoot last with Latts, if you miss the first shot who cares, now you get 2 more target locks and a focus. Shoot again. In the list I posted, Latts would mostly just use the TL for it's own shooting. The Clusters are there to allow that first round of double stress on a target, but you could easily drop them.

What about something like: Syndicate Thug (26) x 2 Y-Wing (18), Bomb Loadout (0), Ion Cannon Turret (5), BTL-A4 Y-Wing (0), Proximity Mines (3) Latts Razzi (48) YV-666 (33), Cluster Missiles (4), Gunner (5), Bossk (2), Tactician (2), Anti-Pursuit Lasers (2) Use thugs to cover the rear of Latts, drop proximity mines so if they move over Latts you get some nice hits, and just go to town. Just keep them running into the front of the space bus. Oh, and just for fun, Latts can throw a lot of stress with the tactician. Alternately, drop the missiles and Pursuit Lasers for Engine Upgrade.

Well, you don't say, hmm, I have 25 points, I really need a blocker! Gonna grab me the black sun enforcer! Rather the fact that it makes an excellent blocker is a bonus perk. In addition to its decent attack profile and decent defenses, it can block like a champ! I see it as having more tools in the toolbox so to speak. One thing I've noticed about the Star Viper after playing with it some more, is that does really well 1v1 against a lot of stuff, even stuff with higher PS. In fact, 2 vipers, regardless of pilot skill and kill any single ace in the game. Now granted, that's not a fair fight, but you don't win by trying to set up fair fights. So I think there's some potential there. 2 Vipers + something strong enough and tempting enough of a target to dish out lots of punishment before it goes to help get that favourable end-game scenario where you have those 2 vipers vs a fraction of the enemy force. I'm thinking YV-666 or IG88 will fit the bill... Have any reports from Store Championships or Regionals where you have flown Starvipers to victory? Lists from both sides would be nice as well.
-
I own 5 of them...eventually they will be useful.
-
If it works for you great, I don't like throwing at minimum 25% of my list (a delicate part of it too) into a potential block.
-
That's what you want them to be. Honestly, they are pretty nice blockers. Even Guri. So, the PS is just about right. Yea, great blockers for 25pts...or you can get 2 Banana Pirates and block even more.
-
It's going on ol' N'Dru Suhlak for sure....
-
Well yea, it's made to dodge arcs (ship actions and stats), but it has terrible pilots for that purpose. The Starviper, and the M3A, were created when they were feeling very conservative about how good the new S&V ships should be. What do Starvipers need? Action efficiency and higher PS.
-
Do you see a lot of Starviper play in your group? I think I have seen them played a handful of times in the last year.
