  1. In my league this week I am pretty sure I will be facing a couple of Phantom squads. My plan was to bring Corran with VI, FCS and R2D2 as my Phantom killer. That leaves 58 points. I was going to bring the standard 58 point Super Dash but was wondering if Fat Han with 58 points would be better. Most of the builds I come up with for him at 58 points are pretty tanky.

  2. For clarification this was a father and son who were both 3-0 after 3 Swiss rounds.  They met in the 4th of 5 rounds and decided to split points ensuring that they would both be in the top 4 after the 4th round, most likely giving one of them or both a shot at winning.

The TO seemed to feel that it was shenanigans but not strongly enough to DQ them or take other action.  Thankfully neither player won the tournament.

  3. I was not there, but if this is the same event I've heard of, there may be more information to weigh into your consideration.  It was explained to me that the two parties were sitting very heavy in wins/MOV (I believe undefeated) to such a degree that the final round of Swiss itself would not affect either player making the post-Swiss brackets.  With that understanding they approached the TO to confirm and decided to forgoe the formality.  While I'm sure there will be always be objections, it is worth noting that their outcome would not preclude anyone else's rise into or fall out of the bracket action to follow that final round.

Different tournament. There were no post Swiss rounds in this tournament. I can't speak to the players motives beyond them wanting to be assured to be in the top four. That's how it was explained to me anyway.

  4. At a recent store championship two players agreed to a draw to split points and make sure each of them made it into the top four.

I heard a bit of grumbling about it so looked up the tournament rules. They state that player collusion to manipulate results is expressly forbidden. This seems to fall under that but I am not sure as I have never heard of a draw in Xwing so don't know whether they are legal or not.

  5. Please advise me if you think this list is viable.  I am concerned it does not have enough punch.

    Chewbacca

     Predator

     C-3PO

    Lando

     PTL

     MF Title

     Nien Numb

     Kyle Katarn

The idea is that if they can stay close enough, Chewbacca could get two actions per turn(one from Lando) and Lando could get 3 on occasion, PTL and Kyle Katarn.

  6. Unions time has come and gone.  They were created before Federal law addressed serious issues with child labor, working conditions, wages et al.

I grew up in Detroit and can't tell you how many stories I have heard of friends starting work in the auto industry and being admonished to slow down, that they were working too fast.

"What, don't like my 2 hour bathroom break?  Talk to my union rep."

  7. If you join their Kids Club, you get a one-time 30% off coupon. That makes the MF about $20.

You've got to wait a day or so for the coupon to show up in your email, but it's worth it.

Normally you only get 10% off with your BN membership in the store. Everyone gets 10% off on their site.

The X-Wing stuff isn't considered "toys" so you can't use the Kids Club coupons.

  8. I would consider dropping down to gold squad on the y wings. PS 4 isn't doing a lot unless you anticipate seeing Predator.

Even without draw their fire, chewie will outlast the y wings.

I've run a similar list with a PTL Chewie with Roark with ion cannon and a stress bot / ion cannon y wing. It was a lot of fun and worked very well.

  9. I, for one, don't build competitive lists. Fly casual!

I don't compete much, and when I do, my friends are the only ones who actually show up. We all just have a good time and don't care who wins

I don't like this attitude that Fly Casual is at odds with competitive play. Personally I would not bother playing a game where I did not care who wins.

  10. S1n,

It would help to facilitate discussion if you would quantify your objections to the concept. Your post as is sort of trollish.

For example I’ll give some self criticism, this concept is best used on target locks and stress and least usable on dodge tokens.

The reason being target locks stay in play the longest and are the token most frequently left behind when the ship flies away. Critical Hits tokens as well (If anyone actually uses those).

A clothespin on dodge isn’t helpful though as the ship is done moving after the token is placed and its removed before it moves again.

If a person plays the The Moldy Crow clips are very important because unused focus are not removed during clean up.

So S1n, with the above examples you can now see how discussion leads to improvement.

    Please quantify your objections.

    Okay, let's start.

First, you have that model on at least 2 pegs. That means it won't work for anyone with fewer pegs. Second, you will have to constantly touch the model to clip tokens to it, which increases the chance of you moving the model. Third, it looks way, way, way more difficult to maintain those token clips than it does to simply pay attention when playing the game (moving the model, move the tokens).

Most importantly, if you have problems keeping track of tokens, practicing that in games is probably the best way to improve that skill. One major aspect of the game is knowing (or figuring out how to know) the game's state. To figure out a game's state where my opponent clips crap to his ships, I have to get in closer to figure out which token is attached because it's not easily visible.

Try running a TIE swarm doing this. Then tell me you still think it's a good idea.

Much like the double-decker couch, this idea might seem good to the creator, but it is wrought with problems that have no easy answer.

Couldn't agree more. The less you have to touch a model the better. my biggest complaint is the aesthetic. It looks like a flying garage sale.

  11. Perceived oddness in dice outcomes is just simple randomness. There is no such thing as luck. The dice may seem hot or cold but it is just patterns in random events that are retroactively seen as "lucky". It is hard for me to fathom someone arguing that some people are luckier than others.

There have been studies done that show that the brain remembers losing random chance events much more than winning, thereby enforcing some folks belief that they are unlucky.

As someone said, play enough games and the dice even out, for everyone.

  12. After rolling 17 1's in a row, across multiple d20's and the improbable failure that is all my dice rolling, I assuredly CAN blame the dice.

I calls BS. A million monkeys rolling for a million years couldn't pull that off.
