I'd ditch HLC on Kath and go Mangler with Recon Spec. The extra focus will make her much tanker. I would also consider Lone Wolf on Kath.
Edit:gahh it looks like you considered everything I suggested in your own post, lol. Started skimming at the end

I'd like to see a PS 8-9 Phantom pilot.

Seems pointless to me.

How did they cut to top 32 with only 64 players? I thought the guidelines for Swiss rounds and cuts for regional tournaments were pretty clearly defined.
-
I feel HLC is too expensive for a ship that you will be Vadering to death. If you want an HLC shuttle I would drop Vader, add engine and go for a 2 pt initiative bid for Fel.

Im done bickering. I think everyone can agree that things could and should have been handled better. I hope they accept feedback and do a better job in the future of anticipating the demands for competitive play at the world championship level.

I hope to see something from FFG acknowledging that they bungled this event and layout a plan for how things will be better moving forward. I don't expect there to be a change this year but who knows.
I wish FFG would acknowledge Xwing for what it is, their premier product and treat it as such. Rather they are trying to leverage the games popularity into a marketing ploy for their other products. It started last year with their limited coverage of the Xwing tournament to showcase lesser games on their livestream and continues into this year with the scheduling and slotting of what should be the showcase of Worlds, the Xwing tournament. I really don't like the thinly veiled manipulation of their customer base. They are playing with fire and need to start doing things right.
I can't put my finger on why, but I found your post to be irritatingly arrogant. You are aware that Armada, the Star Wars LCG and Netrunner were all ALSO sold out in mere hours right? Sure, the player base for X-Wing is almost certainly larger than those games save maybe Netrunner, it doesn't mean that X-Wing is some sort of "Premier Product" that deserves more special attention than any of their other games.
Twisting it to say its a "thinly veiled manipulation" as a "marketing ploy for their other products" is pretty rude. I can say for a fact, I find watching X-Wing on a stream incredibly boring even though I play it regularly. Whereas the LCGs are a blast to watch.
Trying to not make this personal, but thinking that X-Wing is some special snowflake and all the other games are just side-shows is disrespectful of the other games FFG makes and how good, and in some ways, better, than X-Wing they are. This is their Worlds for every game, even the ones you don't like/play. I think it's fair to say maybe they should split it up, but to say everything else should just make way is downright upsetting.
Regardless of your fee fees getting hurt, Xwing is their bestselling game. When you decide to cut the time allocated to the World Championship of your best selling game from two days to one and then slot that game in on a Wednesday to make room for less popular/new games it's pretty easy to tell what is going on.
FFG wants people to show up on Wednesday for Xwing and then stay for the rest of the event and play other games. If Xwing was on Sat/Sun a lot of folks would arrive on Fri, play Xwing and leave. So yes, FFG is manipulating attendance by putting their most popular game on day one of a five day event. I'm am not judging the quality of the other games but Xwing is a "special snowflake" based on sales. I'm sure this is solid marketing on FFGs part but that doesn't mean I'm not going to call it like I see it.

The high ps meta is nothing new. I agree with the right list maybe he's ok and if folks want to play around and make lists with little used pilots more power to them. My argument is that Fels Wrath will never be the most effective ship you could put in that slot. If you only have 25 points max than a PS 8 RGP with VI and AT or an RGP with PTL would be a more effective interceptor. I simply don't value his ability very highly. At best it gives you one additional attack that has a good chance of being un modified. At worst it doesn't go off at all and you've paid one point to lose 1PS over a RGP.
I guess back when low ps was much more common he was probably One of the worst ships in the game so by that measure, sure he's better now than he was. It's just that he's still not very good.

Banning concession(conceding?) doesn't make sense. The issue is not concession it is handing a player a win with no intention to contest the game and knowing prior to the start of the match that you were dropping out.
Also FWIW if a player concedes 1 min into game it's a 200 MOV. A bye is 150.
-
Since the guy knew he had to leave prior to sitting down at the table it was a poor move and he should have dropped at the end of his last match. If the OPs description is accurate it sounds like he got a kick out of the grand magnanimous gesture.

Yeah I noticed that too. Can't say I was disappointed to see the Fly Casual dude win in the finals.Chris, the player flying Han + Blount + Bandit, makes quite a few errors during the tournament. Rolling too many defense dice, keeping his target lock after spending it, etc. It's hard to watch and his opponents either don't notice or don't call him on it. It's a bit naff considering he ends up making it all the way to the final.
BTW Guf Geelong could only be in Australia, lol

I just re read the original post. The claim that a 25 point RGP with PTL is inferior to a 25 point FW with authothrusters because you have a shuttle with fleet officer doesn't make a lot of sense. The argument is that FW can get an extra action from FO so save stress which opens up his dial. How nimble is an interceptor when it has a range 2 chain attaching it to the lumbering beast that is the shuttle?
You can't really compare a 25 point RGP to a 25 point FW. The comparison should be a 27 pt RGP with PTL and AT vs a 25 pt FW with AT. I know who I'd take.
-
I will take the PTL RGP at PS6 at 2 extra points any day of the week over PS5 Fel's Wrath with an at most once a game ability. Double actions and the ability to potentially move after Brobots make it no contest in my mind which I'd rather field. Thinking outside the box is great and is necessary for innovation in list building, but sometimes, as in this case the hive mind is correct. To date I have never seen Fel's Wrath played and barring a rule change or just a casual experimental list I doubt I will.

Yeah it's nice to see folks put forth a lot of effort in their stream. Good commentary, graphics and sound. Lot better than just setting up a camera and calling it good.

Good write up. Minus points for too much "boom".
Interesting to me that you did very well with psycho tycho. I've always seen this as more of a fun to fly novelty than a competitive ship. I would guess it speaks to you being a very good player rather than tycho being a great ship. It sounds like you had a lot of fun with it so congrats. I don't feel I'm a good enough player so I tend to stick with the power builds but hats off to those who can do well with alt lists.
-
Personally I have no interest in scenarios and know of few people who do. While it might be possible to design scenarios that would work within a competitive milieu, the problem would be getting players to show up for it. At the end of the day people like to blow sh*t up. There is something very satisfying about eradicating your opponent from the field that can't be matched by completing a scenario objective.

decloacking before is not a nerf, it honestly made the phantom better because now it is harder for people to block you in and keep you from decloacking
As stated Phantoms are harder to fly now. Rather than reacting to where your opponent is you have to guess. Short of omniscience, you will occasionally guess wrong, sometimes with severe consequences. To argue that Phantoms are better now is pretty ridiculous and reeks of vanity. "If you think it's a nerf you suck L2 fly nub"

I think it is more helpful to suggest strategy rather than builds. Anyone can make a build that will do well versus list xyz.
