    COMMAND UNITS are commented below!
Here's my first set of Daqan infantry. Instead of knights serving under one banner, I wanted each knight to have his/her own coat of arms and I'm painting my infantry to support those individual knights. Each set of four infantry will have its own paint scheme, but still be tied together with a predominance of silver armor. You can view the high quality photos on my flickr account https://www.flickr.com/photos/143447216@N03/33522176794/in/dateposted-public/ and I'll upload more as they are finished.
    Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Hey Guys,
my first unit is completely painted. The basing is missing. I'm not sure how to base them yet. But what I know is, I need more bits So they will get the basing later. What I recognize on the picture on the screen is, I washed the first tray which i finished (front left) the other I didn't. So I will have to Wash them too. The ice blue markers for firing arc came later so you will see color differences around that area on the first tray. Also the mat spray and some blood is missing which will be the last doing. My Waiqar will get an icy theme like my Necrons before.
I apologize for the suboptimal picture. I will do later better pictures in my photo cube, when the whole work is done.

You miss the most important point: undead are always the coolest guys. I always play undead in every game. So why change here? I think they got the greater models too. I think that many people choose in this way not in the meta way (maybe later with more stuff).  We had only a few games and they were all close independent of who had won. So ATM I think everything is possible and playable. The meta combinations will come with further waves like in x wing.

Sadly the books aren't in the essential box (https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2017/4/10/runewars-miniatures-game-essentials-pack/) which you would prefer to buy if you don't play daqan or waiqar. So if you want them as a printed one you have to get it from one who has 2 core sets.

Can we, as a community, please refrain from using the 'n-word' (I mean 'nerf') and refrain from posting 'fix this' threads until at least 2018? Please? Because that has been the most annoying and disappointing part of the X-wing forums in recent months. Apparently the calls/complaints were justified in that game, but we've had a good thing going here in the Runewars Miniatures Game, and I want to keep a positive atmosphere.
If you do feel there is unbalance, feel free to read other topics where people discuss their experiences, and try to approach the problem from a tactical point of view (as discussed already in some of the above posts). Maybe you can use the units in different ways to cover for perceived weaknesses.

tkundnobody reacted to drkpnthr in I'm worried the game doesn't have enough factions at launch...
Keep in mind that WHF and Warmahordes didn't start with all of their factions either. FFG is definitely wanting to create tournament play for Runewars, and they are targeting two factions to get balanced first. I think if they want a strong tournament scene, it will be important to get balancing right. This lets them get all the basic rules problems (like what actually is a Ranged Effect and needs to use LOS) before they start adding in more dimension and options within the game. They've even prioritized a few minor expansions before the new factions so that they can make sure the game scales properly. I think FFG is being very cautious and careful about making sure they create a balanced field with iron-out rules before people begin playing in tournaments. That said, we have to compare the differences in the existing XWing vs Armada dynamic. Armada is a less popular game, which doesn't draw a large casual scene the way XWing does, partly because of the cost and complexity. I worry about this game not having a strong Casual scene, and that driving sales and popularity to draw people into the hobby. I'm already trying to understand the rules well enough to start designing something to be the equivalent of HotAC for Runewars, though at some point I'm sure I will need to hand it off to someone with better design skills. I'm thinking something along the lines of Mordheim/WyrdWars, but perhaps with a roleplay element, which allows people to use both Runewars and their Descent minis to play, and draws people from both crowds into a casual scene of Runewars play.

Just a quick heads up, in the "When is the Morale Deck reshuffled" thread we realized that the pdf online of the Rules Reference is updated compared to the printed Rules Reference in my game.
For example rule 53.7 (When there are no cards remaining in the morale deck, shuffle the discard pile and then place it facedown as the morale deck) only exists in the online version, I don't know if there are any other differences.

You guys are acting like the worms are expensive or something. They are only 15 points. I think most 200pt lists will have at least 2 solo worms if not 3. Remember Erebus has to be with in range 3 to use the worms ability so you will need a couple to make his movement less predictable. Their role will be a cheap annoying support unit that is surprisingly hard to remove from the table.
Also everyone keeps saying blight isn't that big of a deal because you can just rally......sure do that and be predictable. Just like all of the other flight path games the most predictable person usually loses.

I think overall the problem people are having with the Waiqar is that they are getting caught up in the "undead niche" of other fantasy games. They go "look undead" and just mindlessly throw them at the opponents army thinking they will win by attrition. This isn't how Waiqar works. Waiqar is clearly intended to be a synergy army and just like with many other games, synergy armies tend to have a steep learning curve with a high skill cap.

tkundnobody reacted to Leowulf in Can someone explain Kari VS Ardus to me?
Yeah the trick to taking out Kari is blight - getting rid of that white dice is huge. The only thing she can really do to counter is is to hang back and stack up inspiration tokens but that's not ideal. Target her with  any combination of Ardus, Archers or the Carrion Lancer's ability looking to get blights on her, always spending the blight on the white dice (only spend a blight on a mortal wound if you can be sure you can follow it up to finish her after taking a full Kari attack back)

Only inspiration tokens from earlier turns and the morale deck can save her from the necromancy, and that can only really last one turn. Even if she rallies at Initiative 2, the attack resolves before the Bonus Action to rally (you can still spend the blight before it gets removed by the Rally modifier).

It's not that she's 'better' than Ardus they both function as part of a cohesive force and require different approaches both to play and play against.

tkundnobody reacted to Budgernaut in Map of Mennara
This is a map of Mennara from the Diskwars era. I recommend you download the map so you can zoom in and see the names of places more clearly.
As @Hidatom noticed, this map does not seem to match the descriptions of Mennara from the recent lore guide, but considering lots of time and 3 great wars have occurred between this map and the current state of Mennara in Runewars, it's hard to say how the land may have changed. It's also worth noting that cardinal directions are not indicated on this map, so we are only assuming that North is up.
Let's list some of the descriptions from the lore guide for you to compare to this map:
"The Aymhelin -- the greatest forest in all Mennara -- stretches from the south of Terrinoth and west of the Ru to the southern ocean." "East beyond the careful watch of Hernfar Isle in Terrinoth's northeast, and as far south as the edge of the Aymhelin, the sunbleached steppes of the Ru gleam across the wide Lothan River." "Something stirs in the north. Long has the thirteenth barony lay dormant, but now, each day another village is swallowed into the mists." (From the learn to play booklet) The Aymhelin does not appear anywhere on this map. Is it the same as Lotharia, the home of the elves during the first darkness? If so, it should border the Ru Darklands, which it does not.
The Ru appears to be norhtwest, rather than northeast. Perhaps North is to the left of this map? That would work for the relative position of the baronies to the Ru, because that big green area in the right-center is where the Knights of Falladir once dwelt (though Knights also lived in the Thelgrim Peninsula to the left).
During the first darkness, the Thelgrim Peninsula was lost to the Uthuk and the undead of Farrenghast. Could that be the northern Mistlands now?

So it seems some people are questioning the Strength of the Waiqar. Well here are my thoughts on this.

What do the Waiqar Bring to the Table?
    Blight. Literally. ALL THE BLIGHT!!!!
If you think you have enough Blight, you are wrong. To paraphrase an old game "You must create more Blight Tokens". Blight not only boosts the meat grinder called Ardus (when in range of a Lancer) but it also makes you more survivable. Each token is 1 less die your opponent can rely on and if you can stack 2-3 tokens on a unit they will never be able to push enough damage through.

    Carrion Lancer:
Ok, partial joking aside (seriously, you need more blight). Some considerations, The Carrion Lancer is one of the best units you can take. Seriously, take several. They are resilient (needing at least 9 damage to take out in one go) since they can Blight and boost Defense at the same time. It leaves the unit stationary when it does so but the advantage is pretty big.

    Reanimates:
Next we have the Reanimates. The few times I have used them, I have held them back, allowing them to be charged while they are in a defense boost. Now you can get away with charging with them, you will want them to have blight tokens on an the one you are charging. Since this is Core box you wont have access to the Standard Bearer from the Infantry Expansion (see card image below), you will have to be creative with how you apply all that blight (Hmmm Carrion Lancer Special on a 4 Init Rally seems fun or 4 Init Attack seems legit if you ask me). Minimizing the amount of damage that the Reanimates takes makes them not only more survivable but with their Regeneration you can extend their ability to fight back. It makes up for their slowness.

    Reanimate Archers:
These are decent damage dealers and work well in larger numbers. I like to cheat though and think that they are best in 2x1 groups with Ranked Discipline. A red and a Blue for damage is not a lot but placing more Blight, weakening your foes as they close in, and proving to be an utter pain in the butt to take down is amazing.

    Ardus:
The Meat Grinder, The Whirlwind of Doom, Mr Destructo Axe and his Fabulous Antlers himself. This monster is decently easy to take down at times but if he hits the right targets (Cavalry,  Hero's, and Rune Golems just to name a few) he can slice and dice his way with maddening ease. The reason you don't want to pit him against a unit like Spearman or Reanimates is because they can take all of his damage with and still maintain their capabilities to strike back. They also limit the ability of the Moral Strikes that Fab Antlers gets from a nearby Lancer. Those Mortal Strikes are great against Multi Wound models like Golems and other Hero's but unless you have an Accuracy you cant hit those Champion's that are embedded in those big bricks of Infantry.

    In the End:
Watch your targets and let the Blight Flow, after all the Blight must Flow Free!

I was reading the Runewars boardgame rules and BattleLore 2E rules this morning, mostly for the lore snippets in the beginning. What was neat is that the Runewars lore is told by Alcaran, the same guy who tells the story to Astarra in the new Lore Guide. BattleLore takes place some time later because Alcaran is already dead. I just thought it was something interesting to share for our new lore sub-forum.
