I've been hoping for a Star Wars rendition of the Command and Colors system, which they already use a version of in BattleLore.

Hey all, I just got back from San Diego Regionals.  112 people, 6 rounds of Swiss, cut to 16.  I was fortunate enough to make the cut, and had a successful second day.  There's simply no way I would've had a meaningful chance had I been forced to continue the same night, and the final table might have greeted the cold gray of dawn.

I understand the frustrations, but these are not Store Championships.  Regionals are a huge jingleblasting deal.  "Region" does not mean your local area.  I'm in the Southwest Region 2 which comprises 4 states totaling 50 MILLION people.  We have 4 Regionals this year for that entire space.  FOUR.  My home, Los freaking Angeles does not have an event.

If you're lucky enough to have one next door, congratulations!  If not, you have to decide if it's worth the sacrifice.  Balancing my work and family with competitive X-Wing is a tremendous effort.  If the experience doesn't meet whatever your criteria is, then it doesn't make sense (to me) to complain about that decision.  For me, the chance to spend two days playing and discussing this game I love, with hordes of my favorite people/top players (San Diego's field featured 25% of Worlds top cut!) is something I'm desperate to participate in.  The time and money spent (to me) was a bargain.  If you don't get the same value out of the investment, I'm sorry you're not one of the lucky few to have a Regional at your FLGS.  I'm not one of those lucky few either.

There are a lot of people who's main gripe seems to be that we don't have as many regionals as store championships.
I think these people are missing the point.

    Such lovely attitude.

I could say that rather than the people who don't want to play such long days accommodate your wishes by 'hardening the **** up', perhaps you should accommodate others by getting a better job so that you could afford a hotel for the night. But I won't because that would make me sound like a selfish d**k.

I don't think that would help. People in my area would just hit them like they do Store Championships.

Hence the old saying about the difference between Europe and the US is that in the US, 200 years is a long time and 200 miles is a short drive.

I don't really want this to happen...but at the same time, I kind of do.

Seriously, though, you have to be impressed by their commitment to mysterious silence.  Not many companies pull that off as completely as FFG.

This has come up before here and on BGG. We don't care for the implementation either and have been using our own custom rule. For each faction, we take both lore decks, pull out all duplicates, and shuffle them together. I believe this leaves you with a 24 card lore deck. Also, if we draw a lore card we can't use (Crushing Blow and you have no Rune Golems, etc.) we discard it and draw again. If you muster any neutral units, their cards get shuffled in too.
Yes, it leaves you with only 1 copy of each card and the deck is slightly larger, but we like the reduction in setup time (we think setup is already involved/interesting enough) and the greater variety of useful cards we see.
