IDK about 40k diskwars.  I think there are some unusual barriers for that one.  Not that FFG couldn't overcome them, I'd just be skeptical until I saw it.  I think the fact that everything has a ranged attack would make it less interesting than Fantasy.  Just my 2 cents.  Though, they could go with a bigger scale, something like Epic, then you could say that pinning represented more than just close combat, and have ranged attacks as we're used to reserved for things like artillery and titans.  But there's also Conquest to think about.  We only got Diskwars when Invasion had run its course.  I'm not convinced FFG would release two 40k games like this at the same time.  But, they have certainly saturated us with Star Wars IP based games, so who's to say?  Though, SW is a little more valuable than anything Games Workshop has to offer.

All that said...  I'd probably buy it.  Diskwars is such a good concept, it would most likely overcome my skepticism.  Though I'd really prefer more of this game.  I just wish FFG wasn't keeping it under such a tight lid.  just some hint of what's to come, even if it were still several months off would make me happier.

    Hello everyone,

my name is Giovanni aka The Sniper Troll, and I run a small blog/fanpage about Warhammer: Diskwars by the same name on wordpress. Here I write silly articles about rules and strategy, army lists and battle reports. I also from time to time like to pester FFG with rules questions whose answers I collect in my blog.

I'm aware that many of you most likely know about the blog from Boardgamegeek or other sources, anyway I thought it was useful to have a thread here, similar to the one on BGG, where to post regular updates about the blog when I write stuff you might find of some interest.

TheSniperTroll got a reaction from Katsuyori in Integrating Skaven
Warning, Gutter Runners don't have Mobile, the Ratling Guns do.

My attempt ith the Skaven has been an offensive Chaos/Skaven army. I tried it only once though, so I need some more field experience to confirm its effectiveness.

    The army was:

    Archaon the Everchosen (33)
    Bloodcrushers (10)
    Hellstriders (8)
    Plaguebearers (8)
    Daemonettes (6)
    32/33 Points

    Ikit Claw (33)
    Ratling Gun (9) x2
    Gutter Runners (7) x2
    32/33 Points

    Intiative Modifier: +2

    Command Cards
Blood for the Blood God (3) - Bold
    Acquiescence (2) - Steady
    Arcane Attack (2) - Steady
    Lure (3) - Devious

The idea here is to use the Skaven disks to soften enemies from range and then charge with Archaon, the Bloodcrushers and Hellstriders to finish off weakened enemies with Impact. The ideal situation would be managing to damage multiple disks with the Ratling Gun and then hitting 1-2 of them with Archaon for a multi-kill.

Plaguebearers offer some additional support and the daemonettes are perfect to snipe enemies you damaged with ranged attacks and magic.

Arcane Attack and Blood for The Blood God are here for extra damage, while Acquiescence helps to soften tough enemies with resistance to damage or to prevent nasty abilities from activating.

The offset, as with many destruction army, is that if you get attacked on multiple fronts you risk getting overrun. The army can withstand some enemy charges, but only if your ranged/magic attackers and cavalry can then counterattack and free your disks from pinning before the Melee Phase. If you can't do it, you are pretty much done.

The Dragon's ability only affects the target and any disk engaged with the target, so if the Dragon uses it on itself, all enemies engaged with it (and the dragon itself, of course), would be damaged, but not other disks in the engagement. If it targets an enemy, all allies engaged with that enemy would be affected too. So unless you are playing multiplayer where you can fire at enemy combats,be prepared to fire on your own troops

Can't agree more!  I'm a new dad, and my time for miniatures painting with a baby and a full time job is basically non-existent.  I'm sure I will paint again one day, but right now quick to set up and fun to play (while still being deep) is definitely what is necessary.  Diskwars fits that bill pretty much perfectly.

I'm in the same spot as DKartzinel.  But, I have to add that this game is awesome in it's own right.  Not just as a replacement for mini's games.  I really like that I can get in 2-3 games of this in the same time I could have played a small game of Warhammer.  Not to mention that it is balanced so much better than it's mini's companion.  If GW started balancing it's games as well as Diskwars, there'd be no stopping it.

It is a great little game, deceptively easy.

I historically have played a lot of Table Top Mini games, but have been steering more and more towards games I don't have to paint or maintain to play. Disk Wars for me, plays like a minis game, without all the hobby-ness. I love it. It is deceptively deep despite the easy on the eyes exterior.

As people get exposure to it, it will continue to grow.

I agree with TezzasGames, it seems an unnecessary complication to me. The game works fine as it is for me. I agree that it's hard to protect valuable disks, but it can be done by placing units near rough terrain so that the enemy has to take a longer route to get to you (as I showed here), or by keeping some of your disks out of reach of the enemy, in a position where they can threaten to pin any attacker that comes to charge your own disks.

Also by negating the possibility to charge without line of sight you'll be weakening fast cavalry units and disks with the flying and strider keyword, which greatly benefit from the ability to stay hidden behind terrain.

One is for attack strength (black) and the other is for counter strength (white).

Valkia is always swift when she is attacking an enemy she is pinning, and her counter gains swift when she is empowered (in addition to the usual benefits).

    Hope that helps!
