I found the reflective sheen on my death star 1 and starfield is dependent on he angle of the fibers in the mat, and it caused the illusion that the starfield black was different, but with a polarizer or in very diffuse light, the black matched fine. I suspect that's at work here too.
I observed the same discrepency in color with the new Bespin mat at our recent store championship. The plain star field mat that was next to it looked dull grey by comparison. Later in the day, I was on the other side of that table and noticed the opposite sheen - star field was pure black, Bespin was dull/matte.
We spun the star field mat around so that the "Star Wars" logos matched in orientation and the two then looked seamless from both sides. The official mats definitely have a 'tooth' or 'grain' in the surface of the fabric.

I will buy 1-3 depending on point cost, $ cost, and what kind of upgrades are in the box.

I also drove to the Hard Knox tourney from New Albany. Events in the area have been getting larger and larger for the past year. Silver Creek could land a large crowd if they tried. Maybe we should just start showing up to play.
For the less competitively inclined, we are running one or two heats of the "Hunger Games" format at the Louisville Game Shop (925 Baxter Ave) on the same day. We're not trying to steal the thunder from the Store Championship; just offering something for those on the 'casual' end of the spectrum. And I suppose for anyone who cant get a seat at the SC.

My FLGS is hosting a 150pt Named Pilots Only tourney this weekend. It's still a dogfight format, but it really makes your head spin with the possibilities.
So there's still the struggle over the anguish of whether to go with just a few, tanky ship builds or squeeze in more pilots because you have the points to do so. (I'm probably going with a four ship Imperial list: Echo/Rexlar Brath/Captain Kagi/Carnor Jax, and I know my friend is running a 5 X-Wing list).
You've said too much - I know your plan now.
Anyway, that's the "ACES" format. Gotta repeat it so that it catches on and becomes a thing. ACES!

What time on Tuesday's would you guys be getting together?
There's a couple guys who are off work on Tuesdays. They get there shortly after noon, or early afternoon, since it's their day off and there's no reason to rush. More people start showing up after 4pm as we get off work.
We're there until the shop closes at 8pm.

Just as an FYI, the Louisville Game Shop is actually going to be closed on Sept. 02 for Labor Day. Any other Tuesday though!
