Robin Graves reacted to Ramellan in What got you into warhammer/ 40K?
I'm a very recent fan, only got into it, what, 2 or 3 years ago? I was a big d&d fan then, I'd spent tons of money on the books, and not even to use them all. Just for imagination feul. Then I found a copy of Dark Heresy at my local book store. I like fantasy, but I'm also a huge sci-if fan, and while the setting was a lot darker than I usually like, the depth of the lore and the sheer scope of the universe drew me in. It was beautiful. Horrifying, but beautiful. I didn't get that book, it wasn't until I found Rogue Trader that I started buying them. Now, I've got each of the core rule books, minus Only War, and a bunch of others in PDF format. Even if I'm not playing them, having all those stories and ideas at hand just fills up my daydreams for months on end.
I've actually come up with ideas for entire parties in every game, Robin. Including Chaos. Let me know if you wanna swap ideas sometime.

Robin Graves reacted to Wh0isTh3D0ct0r in I need advice...
Easy. Don't worry about deck building until she gets used to the games. Just use the default decks that come with the core set. With the Netrunner core set alone there are 24 different matches to choose from.
Watch the tutorial videos and play some test rounds--not complete games--to help her get familiar with the basic rules.
Above all else, keep in mind that the more you push these games at her, the more she will associate them with negative feelings. Let her become interested in the games at her own pace. And if it comes down to it, be prepared to let it go. You may end up never getting her interested in these games. If you are not okay with that, then she will know it, so it will never truly be fun for her; it will simply be an obligation.
Trust me; I've learned these lessons the hard way, trying to get my wife interested in many of the games that I love. I've succeeded with some, but not with all of them. Sometimes, I just had to move on.

Robin Graves reacted to klaymen_sk in Possible Warlords
Name: Ursakar E. Creed a.k.a. CREEEEED!
Faction: Astra Militarium
Why? Because he's a tactigal genius. Also, he is responsible for defending Cadia, so he knows a thing or two about war.

Robin Graves reacted to LordDD337 in Emperor's True Sons the Sensei
Hi all.
Just had another crazy thought, how would i go about stating, and making it resonable, a Sensei
Now my plan for this would be that hed be wisked away by some unknown force while still an infant into the warp where he drifted until found by a group of space marines aboard a rogue trader ship.
Ive already introduced the NPC as a primarch of the second legiones astartes. Id like to turn him into a Sensei but instead of being a psychic blank, hell be as powerful and even more so then the emperor if he were to discover his power that lies within. Mentally hes a child and physically hes only a teenager.
Now my question would be what kind of stats would this character have and what skills?
Keep in mind that he has no idea what hes capable of and has to discover his power but he will have a set of abilities that will be there at start.
I know this is a crazy thought and some of you will say hes a plot device and shouldnt have stats. Id like for this thing to have stats seeing as id like to have stats for it so i dont do the GM fiat of saying everything he does works and also saying that he cant fail. Id like for him to have a chance of failure and have it up to a dice roll.
Thanks all.

Robin Graves reacted to Misha in Suffer the Alien to live.
Sorry for being a killjoy but as a staunch Imperial, propoganda crazy, redemptionist member, xeno hater... TOO MUCH HERESY! ARGH! TOO MUCH HERESY!
Sorry for that but I got carried away. My group did have a xeno in it. A kroot shaper called At'Rakka'Nill or Roaring Chicken. He was a shaper but he joined up with the group. He is actually a PC who loves the Kroot and I just couldn't resist to let him in. He has survived for a long time surprisingly! His past life story is a sad one but so is his modern life story. How does it feel to be the meal decider for a Kroot tribe... then become the meal decider of the KT. So far he is still alive but my conniving, scheming, dirty (not in the way most would think), anti xeno mind will bump him off for sure...

Robin Graves reacted to Ramellan in Loyalist Traitor Chapters
My group was having a talk about which chapter our Black Shield came from (player has left that undecided for now) and naturally after a minute we were talking about the traitor legions. While his chapter is still undecided, I went ahead and thought about Renegade chapters, cursed chapters, and after a moment, chapters that are widely suspected of being drawn from the traitor legions.
(I do not count the Storm Wardens myself)
Minotaurs: suspected World Eaters
Sons of Antaeus: suspected Death Guard
Blood Ravens: suspected Thousand Sons
Red Scorpions: suspected Emperor's Children (did not know this until last night. O.o)
Am I missing any? Cause if not then I can't help but notice that these are all the 4 chapters that are each dedicated to one of the Chaos Gods. Haven't found any sign of loyal black legion, night lords, iron warriors, or alpha legion. 1d4 chan had a home brew chapter, The Knights Repentant, for the Word Bearers, which I thought was pretty cool.
I had my own idea for a loyalist traitor chapter, and I'll share it in my next post, but first I wanna hear your thoughts. I know there must be other threads out there about this but I'm too lazy to look through 50 pages for them. So, loyalist traitors. For, or against? Ideas for the legions without suspected chapters?

Robin Graves reacted to Drath in Armoured regiments and tank crews
For your driving example, I would only do operate tests for more complicated maneuvers, otherwise tanks would just be a hellish experience for all involved. For example, if you did one for everything you could have such situations as. 'Oops! Sorry guys, I tried to brake, failed and squashed the guy half the squad died to rescue. Good game though, right?' Or. 'Darn. I tried to drive straight but failed really badly and now we're falling off the bridge. Sorry about that, really sorry.'

Robin Graves reacted to CommissarWilliams in Armoured regiments and tank crews
I would say play as the tank crew, there are plenty of times story wise the players may need to dismount, you can have a dawn raid for example when the players are camped outside there tank. Or just enjoying down time away from the tank .
But you have a main battle cannon, with the possibility of having 2- heavy bolters , a lascannon, and maybe a turret hatch mounted storm bolter or stubber. So there is always something to do .

Robin Graves reacted to Adeptus-B in Armoured regiments and tank crews
Yeah, I was struggling with the 'nuts-and-bolts' how a tank crew-based OW game would work in actual play (as opposed to vague theories that "Tank campaigns would be kool, 'cause, well, tanks!"). I started this thread to explore the topic, and got some useful feed-back (and a bit of not-so-useful feedback along the lines of "Don't be a tank crew- be an infantry squad with a pet tank that follows them around"). The discussion convinced me that a fun game as a tank crew is possible, but it would require a fair amount of 'house-ruling' and quite a bit of research outside the official rulebooks.
If FFG is looking for a good subject for a new OW supplement, they could do worse than to make one that lays down some useful guidelines for tank-based campaigns.

Robin Graves reacted to Fgdsfg in Retirement from the Guard
I'm firmly in the 2nd camp. The idea of guardsmen never ever retiring and always dying isn't really grimdark, it's just grimderp. There would be huge issues with morale and recruitment if it was true. The truth is that while the Imperial Guard gets shipped around a lot and as whole fights endless wars, the vast majority of the Imperial Guard may not even be involved in a major engagement in their entire life.
And by major I mean the truly meatgrinding wars against larger waaaghs or the masses of chaos.
Successful regiments that have reached the end of their usefulness or their tour of duty are given a planet that they have conquered, or land on an available world. Guardsmen that have finished their tour of duty are sent home if possible, or are made into trainers and drill sergeants. In many cases in major engagements, this is completely suspended, but the idea is there.
And they're all getting paid in one way or another.
Unless it's a Penal Regiment.

Robin Graves got a reaction from Lynata in A few questions! :)
I really like when they do this with lasguns/ boltguns or other "simple" items. If you dont clean and take good care of them you'll upset its spirit and it will refuse to function. No it's because your gun's dirty and you broke that it no longer shoots!
I think the Tau just constantly facepalm when they discuss the imperium amongst themselves.
Somehow ork mekaniaks are better than the mechanicus, at least they are willing to invent and adjust things. Never mind that their technolgy is genticaly stored race-memory and powered by their pyshic field of "it work becuz i believe it works"
Ork supersitions actualy work (red unz go fasta!)

Robin Graves got a reaction from Amroth in Thoughts on the Alignment System
You have a point, but then again that's how the chaos gods roll. Khorne IS all about the bloodshed. If you go against your god's stereotype you're not gonna have a good time. Atleast FF gave us the options and din't go "ok, mark of Khorne, you are a besrerker and thats it."
If you want to do something different you can still do it:
My PC, Mondus Masticate, started of as Wolrd Eaters librarian during the Horus Heresy. When his brothers turned to Khorne they came to kill him and he unleashed a warp vortex on them, but it backfired and a daemon of Tzeench pulled him into the warp. Now he's a sorcerer of Tzeench who likes to fight against his former legion.
(also the reason he was saved was tzeench's idea of a joke/middle finger to khorne. "So the enrire world eaters legion is now sworn to khorne? well all except this guy! haha!")

Robin Graves got a reaction from segara82 in One more thing about the app
So the app randomly chooses wich invasion plan (out of five) it will use, right?
What if it ends up using the same one 2 or 3 games in a row? Can we opt to choose a diferent mission manualy?
Also if you need an app to run part of the game i start wondering how complex and convoluted the rules might be. Look at Ghost stories: that game plays itself against 4 players, using only cards and dice and it's streamlined and hard as nails. I'm sure FF could make something good without imediatly jumping to the app!
I'm definatly in the camp of people who don't like the requirement of the app.
a board game should be a board game, There's something ironic about having to use an xcom boardgame app on the same laptop i have the xcom pc game! Also, people's concern over wether this thing will still be playable in 5 years are valid.
Perhaps i'm being a bit unfair here but ingame apps seem about as succesfull as those atmosfear vhs games. And we all know we play these games once, and then we grow tired of them.
- be honest!
