Is there any use for the hundreds of figures from descent 2 in this game?

No. Perhaps that will be the case in the next edition of Journeys in the Dark, if that ever sees the day...

This game, Legends of the Dark, is a new addition to their Terrinoth catalog. A new line of games which apparently will be completed after 3 massive core boxes (Act I, II & III).

The boards themselves are rather plain, as well.

For me, the printed layer of several Gloomhaven board pieces peeled off entirely, so i had to fix it with a glue stick. Apart from a few "bumps" and corners coming off once in a while, it looks okay now. I understand this is a kickstarter product and quality mishaps such as this can happen, especially with games of epic proportions such as Gloomhaven.

Not the end of the world but still, i never had that kind of problem with FFG tiles. Top quality, always. Also, boards rarely warp, if ever. I had plenty of warping with Gloomhaven and other KS products; perhaps warping caused the boards to get damaged in the first place, causing the integrity of the already fragile surface layer to be compromised because of humidity and overall temperature. I never had to worry about this with FFG products. I played Descent 2nd Edition many times, yet the board pieces are still holding strong.

I hope this game fails so game will come back the way I like, sorry for the ones that would like this game.

    Ok...

I never wished for any game to fail, even the Munchkin series and Cards Against Humanity which i both hate.

What about the way others like their games?

In what world should yours supersede mine, or others' ?

  4. Like in JIME, i don't think you can.

But apparently you will have the ability to customize your heroes and equipment between each adventure, even some item crafting. Also, they mentioned visiting a city, can't recall which one from the Runebound map.

What i am wondering is the availability of side-quests, like in the  Road To Legend app. According to their Twitch stream, the team mentioned there would be plenty to do between quests.

    This piqued my interest greatly!

It may also be hopeful for the 'journeys' branch of Descent, this could run its course then they might do more for that, but they could do anything else

That's exactly what i was trying to explain across the surprisingly overly negative forums, that for all we know, FFG might have a dedicated team working on more Journeys 2nd edition (since it sells so well) or a 3rd edition with new Overlord and random dungeon crawling mechanics.

Some are way too quick  to drop the ball. The game isn't even out and at this alarming rate, it will  be already dead - all stores stuck with countless copies that nobody wants , like Atari's E.T. in the 80s.

Might as well prepare another landfill in New Mexico to dump the boxes in, by the truck.

I want to play this very bad, and the whole three acts of it!

  6. You guys are killing the chicken within the egg, before it even hatched...

According  to all the negativity here and other posts, FFG should simply cancel the release of this game, declare bankruptcy and submit to their Kickstarter Overlords.

Kickstarter games also have their good deal of balance issues which i won't be debating here, but i am looking at you Sword & Sorcery!

After watching the Live stream and reading up the articles a few times, i can see several new, really interesting concepts such as crafting with numerous resources tracked within the app, unlocking random abilities to weapons and armor, giving it a Diablo feel. Also the mechanic of readying weapons, armor, skills and abilities with back to back, upgradable and interchangeable cards seem really clever.

Just how the app will be managing all of that while keeping the focus and balance on what's on the table is a challenge i know FFG can overcome. They did with JIME but i would have prefered dice, which is the case with Descent:LotD. Attack dice defined by your hero, but effects and damage across different weapons and abilities unlocked within the app. Very exciting - at least for me and hopefully, a few others.

I would wait for a little bit more before all of us get to punch the red button...

This isn't that game, I'm hopeful a company will see the hole in the market and cater to it sooner or later, and until then we have 1e and 2e. :D

    Agreed.

And also do not forget, this ain't Descent 3rd Edition. FFG specified in their article that Descent:LotD is a new line of games set into Terrinoth.

I am pretty certain they had a long discussion about the inclusion of an Overlord. Perhaps they left it to the already existing line of Descent games.

This isn't for me, I don't mind apps and I like Co-op but my word that app seems to take a huge amount of the gameplay out.. It tracks your feats, your weapons, your combos, your recipes.. and when your shopping via the app imagine the wait around the table for the other players... Seems like a huge bottle neck.

Game looks stunning.. I don't mind the cost either.. I hope they do really well and that lots of people will love this game, no negative feelings towards FFG because this games not for me at all, but its not for me..

Super Sad about no overlord but I knew that would be the case, its just sad because that would have made it a auto purchase... Fixed Class/race characters is another negative for me as well, pre-set load outs, ewww.. I buy fully co-op games, and I enjoy MoM second edition but somehow they've made someone with all one D1e and all of D2e not want this D3e but not 3e... I sound bitter I'm actually not, I really wish them the best success but its just not for me, luckily there's plenty of other games that are for me I just hope that someone else takes up the torch of a compeitive dungeon crawler, as that's a hole in the market that only descent had covered and no is a void, so lets hope some other company pick up the torch for me...

Did I say this looks stunning, and the 3d elements and levels look crazy good... cause they do...

I really like your constructive criticism 😃

Are you aware? FFG said we'll also be able to interact with 3D terrain.

I also wonder how climbing up different levels of terrain will be brought.

the future in boardgames is to keeping this wonderful magic without the digital, theres the magic... Thats why i love boardgames and videgames bored me...

I had the same problem with video games, so i can relate. I do tend to play video games less and less, replaced with board gaming time which i enjoy and get immersed into more.

Still, i never really felt like the use of an app like Road To Legend removed any of the magical feel into the game; i feel like it enhanced, or even brought a new interesting approach to it. The same magic i felt as a teenager while playing Advanced D&D (1st Ed) by myself with my own boundless imagination, the excitement of discovery after you tap a door and the app tells you to setup this tile and that tile, with this many monster and terrain features, plus a potential special event. Paper and cardboard can't come up with that except with some random card mechanic and thick adventure books who keep piling up as new expansions get released - though i admit,  i'd perfectly fine with that too. I did collect everything from Descent 1st and 2nd Ed and i DO enjoy the adventure books, cards and even the older, overly complex, brought out of the bat Road To Legend campaign system from 1st Ed with just too much stuff to keep track of! I am neither pro nor anti app driven games, as long as it is well integrated into the game, which seems to also be the case with Descent:LotD.

They obviously appear to have put a lot of effort into the development of this app and, from what i've heard in their recent Twitch stream, there will be good amount of side quests too! Plenty of things to do outside the main quest line, as they said. Also apparently, you'll have the ability to interact with 3D terrain, such as climbing trees, or topple a stone column on a monsters, or use it as a bridge over a gap!

i dont want app only driven games, not only in my shelves, i dont wantit in the marker.

    Why not?

There are types of games, or mechanics which i don't enjoy such as card drafting or semi-coop games; Still, i accept them being on the market. You not enjoying it doesn't mean others don't.

this happens when a company disconnect with the audience totally....

    very bad art and design

    poor concept

app mandatory driven - this is a videogame with toys?

the game lenght didnt respond to the modern era

    expensive as ****

    zero original

and they call it the "definitive" dungeon crawler?

i mean... comeon.... everything is bad with this ¿"game"?

and im not a troll... i spend this last days hyped as **** with this announcement...

    Okay...

Sorry, but i just can't agree with you on any points here, though i understand it's mainly a matter of taste and personal opinion.

I think this is the future of boardgames and most people will really enjoy it, some others won't as much.

Just give it time will you? more will be revealed soon.

Personally, i find it all very exciting 😃

Same here, I just came back from Savage Worlds as my to go system and bought every Genesys/SW book I still missed (plus a good share of Foundry content). Sad news indeed. 😥

There's a thing though, why would they feature the release of a new Genesys Keyforge setting if they plan on dropping the whole system, makes no sense.

That is, unless they learned about layoffs soon after the news, which i still find unlikely - they would have put down the banner, or made a new announcement of some kind (perhaps). My guess is in knowledge of such news, FFG wouldn't even have announced that source book in the first place.

Leads into thinking they might still support Genesys

It’s certainly possible for this to happen, but the fact that the nemesis sticks around in the encounter deck, plus their whole little deck... It’s not supposed to be terrifying so much as annoying, I guess? The main villain is still supposed to be the main threat? It’s mostly just to keep things from getting stale, really, and it’s a nice touch of flavor for a nemesis to show up while the hero is already busy thwarting somebody else.

    I think you are right.

The creators didn't want the nemesis to upstage the villain, but instead get in the way at the worst moment, plus create a new crisis - more stuff to think about. Also, that automatic attack can hurt in an already dire situation.

I felt the same way after our first few games when Shadow of the Past came up as a boost card only. Then our last game we had 2 of our 3 nemesis out. They definitely added some difficulty.

I was a little bit underwhelmed by the apparition of a nemesis though, once. Since he got to appear during alter-ego form, that nemesis' "automatic damage on hero when enters play" did not went through and he got one-shotted shortly after by another hero and his allies. Perhaps nemeses should have a little bit more hp? They're nemeses after all, not simple minions such as Hydra Agent #127, not worthy enough to have its name even mentioned.

I was a bit like, okay... that was quick, unless i misunderstood something in the rules =/

Still fun though. It was simply a lucky situation

Your answer is here though, since you did not have a controlling hero the damage was not dealt to you. Think of it like Peter Parker being in a totally different place from when his ally was being attacked.

Now that i think about it, this makes a ton of sense.

I think you just found it 😃

So you would think that the extra damage is lost?

This is what i originally thought but it appeared overpowered =/

As a heads up, you can’t be attacked while you are in alter-ego form so this situation cannot occur.

How did you end up in this situation?

    did

sorry i should have specified that earlier, but Peter Parker's ally was defending an attack made against Captain Marvel. As the ally's controller, it made him the target of Overkill damage

  17. Hi.

During my last play session, i fell into an interesting timing issue where Peter Parker (not Spiderman!) was about to be dealt massive damage from Overkill, which first went through an ally he controlled who got exhausted for defending an attack against Captain Marvel. I had a "backflip" card in my hand, and here's what it does:

"Interrupt (defense): When you would take any amount of damage from an attack, prevent all of that damage."

The thing is, since no form is specified on the card, nothing appears to prevent me from playing it as alter-ego which are normally not involved in defense reactions, but thematically it feels a bit odd - though in the movies, Peter Parker DOES backflip, but it ain't a movie, it is a game with a clear set of rules, yet rather unclear here in fact. Overkill rules reads that excess damage to a defending ally is dealt to the controlling hero, but i wasn't in hero form, so it felt OP to have the damage automatically canceled because of that wording, though that might have been the intent in the rules.

Also, i wasn't certain whether the defense keyword on the card applied only to the defending ally, or was applicable to Peter Parker as well as part of the attack resolution process because of the card mention of you. Nothing in the rules about the you keyword. I suspect the card being usable only for the character acting as defender as an immediate interrupt to his/her defense reaction, not for other characters victim of collateral damage since it would be too late during the attack process (the defense reaction already occured).

The you wording is a bit confusing as well. Based on my assumption, an ally you control isn't you, your hero/alter-ego is, unless the real meaning is for any element of the game that you control as a player.

I ended up playing the card on Peter Parker to shrug off all the damage on him, but i feel like i cheated. I still lost so it doesn't mean much in the end.

You guys encountered some weird timing situation like this?
