No. Perhaps that will be the case in the next edition of Journeys in the Dark, if that ever sees the day... This game, Legends of the Dark, is a new addition to their Terrinoth catalog. A new line of games which apparently will be completed after 3 massive core boxes (Act I, II & III).

For me, the printed layer of several Gloomhaven board pieces peeled off entirely, so i had to fix it with a glue stick. Apart from a few "bumps" and corners coming off once in a while, it looks okay now. I understand this is a kickstarter product and quality mishaps such as this can happen, especially with games of epic proportions such as Gloomhaven. Not the end of the world but still, i never had that kind of problem with FFG tiles. Top quality, always. Also, boards rarely warp, if ever. I had plenty of warping with Gloomhaven and other KS products; perhaps warping caused the boards to get damaged in the first place, causing the integrity of the already fragile surface layer to be compromised because of humidity and overall temperature. I never had to worry about this with FFG products. I played Descent 2nd Edition many times, yet the board pieces are still holding strong.

Ok... I never wished for any game to fail, even the Munchkin series and Cards Against Humanity which i both hate. What about the way others like their games? In what world should yours supersede mine, or others' ?

Like in JIME, i don't think you can. But apparently you will have the ability to customize your heroes and equipment between each adventure, even some item crafting. Also, they mentioned visiting a city, can't recall which one from the Runebound map. What i am wondering is the availability of side-quests, like in the Road To Legend app. According to their Twitch stream, the team mentioned there would be plenty to do between quests. This piqued my interest greatly!

Questionable future of the game?

Is it dead really, or because you want it so? I'll take it with a grain of salt -
Questionable future of the game?
Shirys replied to tazman222's topic in Descent: Legends of the Dark
That's exactly what i was trying to explain across the surprisingly overly negative forums, that for all we know, FFG might have a dedicated team working on more Journeys 2nd edition (since it sells so well) or a 3rd edition with new Overlord and random dungeon crawling mechanics. Some are way too quick to drop the ball. The game isn't even out and at this alarming rate, it will be already dead - all stores stuck with countless copies that nobody wants , like Atari's E.T. in the 80s. Might as well prepare another landfill in New Mexico to dump the boxes in, by the truck. I want to play this very bad, and the whole three acts of it! -
seems a little...underwhelming....

I'd also like the ability to gather plants and mine ore! One can only hope 😃 -

You guys are killing the chicken within the egg, before it even hatched... According to all the negativity here and other posts, FFG should simply cancel the release of this game, declare bankruptcy and submit to their Kickstarter Overlords. Kickstarter games also have their good deal of balance issues which i won't be debating here, but i am looking at you Sword & Sorcery! After watching the Live stream and reading up the articles a few times, i can see several new, really interesting concepts such as crafting with numerous resources tracked within the app, unlocking random abilities to weapons and armor, giving it a Diablo feel. Also the mechanic of readying weapons, armor, skills and abilities with back to back, upgradable and interchangeable cards seem really clever. Just how the app will be managing all of that while keeping the focus and balance on what's on the table is a challenge i know FFG can overcome. They did with JIME but i would have prefered dice, which is the case with Descent:LotD. Attack dice defined by your hero, but effects and damage across different weapons and abilities unlocked within the app. Very exciting - at least for me and hopefully, a few others. I would wait for a little bit more before all of us get to punch the red button... -
We need to be a Dungeons Master (Overlord)
Shirys replied to Rodrigo Schena's topic in Descent: Legends of the Dark
Agreed. And also do not forget, this ain't Descent 3rd Edition. FFG specified in their article that Descent:LotD is a new line of games set into Terrinoth. I am pretty certain they had a long discussion about the inclusion of an Overlord. Perhaps they left it to the already existing line of Descent games. -
I can understand 😃 It is still a big shock to us all, good or bad!

I really like your constructive criticism 😃 Are you aware? FFG said we'll also be able to interact with 3D terrain. I also wonder how climbing up different levels of terrain will be brought.

I entirely agree with you. I had the same problem with video games, so i can relate. I do tend to play video games less and less, replaced with board gaming time which i enjoy and get immersed into more. Still, i never really felt like the use of an app like Road To Legend removed any of the magical feel into the game; i feel like it enhanced, or even brought a new interesting approach to it. The same magic i felt as a teenager while playing Advanced D&D (1st Ed) by myself with my own boundless imagination, the excitement of discovery after you tap a door and the app tells you to setup this tile and that tile, with this many monster and terrain features, plus a potential special event. Paper and cardboard can't come up with that except with some random card mechanic and thick adventure books who keep piling up as new expansions get released - though i admit, i'd perfectly fine with that too. I did collect everything from Descent 1st and 2nd Ed and i DO enjoy the adventure books, cards and even the older, overly complex, brought out of the bat Road To Legend campaign system from 1st Ed with just too much stuff to keep track of! I am neither pro nor anti app driven games, as long as it is well integrated into the game, which seems to also be the case with Descent:LotD. They obviously appear to have put a lot of effort into the development of this app and, from what i've heard in their recent Twitch stream, there will be good amount of side quests too! Plenty of things to do outside the main quest line, as they said. Also apparently, you'll have the ability to interact with 3D terrain, such as climbing trees, or topple a stone column on a monsters, or use it as a bridge over a gap! Why not? There are types of games, or mechanics which i don't enjoy such as card drafting or semi-coop games; Still, i accept them being on the market. You not enjoying it doesn't mean others don't.

Okay... Sorry, but i just can't agree with you on any points here, though i understand it's mainly a matter of taste and personal opinion. I think this is the future of boardgames and most people will really enjoy it, some others won't as much. Just give it time will you? more will be revealed soon. Personally, i find it all very exciting 😃
