It also bears mentioning (again, and again) that even if you are two players, it might be better to play 4 heroes, even if the errata added the HoB 2-hero rule to the general game.

The balance is much better with 4 heroes.

Ignoring group limits only means that if you are not playing with a full party, you should still place the entire group.

So in this case, you place up tot he maximum amount of figures you have.

Alarmed got a reaction from wtfrank in Traps on special terrain spaces
I'll fourth the opinion that special terrain, except Obstacle, counts as an empty space and is valid target for a trap.

I will add that some players may feel that it's unfair that a well-played card causes them to lose all their MP while on a lava space and thus, at the end of their turn they get defeated, because they did not plan for it and left the move for their last action, and maxed out on stamina...but isn't that what the OL cards are all about after all?

Alarmed reacted to Zaltyre in Jain Fairwood and Word of misery
I can find the actual answer if you need me to, but I've asked FFG before about "doomed", and it does not create.a separate "suffer damage" trigger, it increases damage suffered by 1 in the same trigger.
So if Jain (doomed) is dealt 2 wound in an attack while word of misery (WoM) is in play, here's how it can go down:
    A) Jain does no shift any damage from the attack to fatigue. She suffers 2 (but because of doomed, this is increased to 3). Since Jain has suffered damage, WoM causes her to suffer 1 fatigue. Total: 3D, 1F
    B) Same as "A", except Jain has no fatigue left to suffer so WoM misery causes a damage instead. Same instance as the attack, so doomed does not trigger a second time. Total: 4D, 0F
    C) Jain shifts 1 damage from attack to fatigue, suffers 1 damage (increased to 2 because of doomed) and WoM causes another fatigue to be suffered. Total: 2D, 2F
D)Same as "C", but Jain is fatigued out after shifting one of the attack damages, so WoM causes a damage instead. Total: 3D, 1F
    E) Jain shifts both damages to fatigue. Neither doomed nor WoM triggers, because no damage was suffered. Total: 0D, 2F.

Alarmed reacted to Zaltyre in Apothecary rules clarification
For all of the above, the ability can apply to any hero in the party, it doesn't have to be the apothecary.

The card is useable (or exhaustable, as the case may be) when the triggering condition is met. For all of these cards, the trigger is "a hero with an elixir token" doing a specific thing with that token (usually discarding it, sometimes declaring an attack).

Let's say Jaes discards an elixir token. Is that a hero discarding an elixir token? Absolutely. Tomble? Yes, he's a hero, too.

However, it's important to point out that the apothecary must be the one to use/exhaust the card and pay the fatigue cost, unless otherwise specified. So, if Jaes has an elixir token and declares the target of an attack, the apothecary can exhaust Secret Formula and suffer 1 fatigue so that Jaes can add a green die to his attack.

A comment I will make is that, just as in IA, you have to stay focused on the objective. The information is all open, not hidden as in IA, so the heroes can make plans in advance.

If the hero players are losing (a lot), maybe allowing them a brief period of strategic and logistical planning before tackling the quest might help?

Rogues are for getting search tokens.
Since you have Syndrael, you'll have some mobility because of her heroic ability, but rogues are much better at going out of the way to get those far, far search tokens.

As far as the Disciple goes, Armor of Faith is great since it has no cost, other than using prayer of healing. Think of it as a free defence boost. Cleasing Touch is another must since it allows you to remove conditions.  Just wait till Leoric gets poisoned and you will see why that is very important!

Divine Fury has the same requirement as the previous two skills I mentioned, in that you must use Prayer of healing. So they all have the same cost...but you can activate them all at the same time so you can heal a party member, boost his defence and remove a condition while giving him a yellow power die to his next attack!

The difference I will point out is that the defence die stays until the end of your next turn... the yellow die is only good for his next attack this round.

None of the 3 XP disciple powers require fatigue to use, so I'm not sure what you mean by they require lots of strain.

    RTL Manual Page 8:

SPOT: ... It performs a move action and moves toward the closest space that is within 3 spaces and line of sight of the target. It stops when it arrives in that space or when it runs out of movement points.

    RTL Manual Page 9:

TOWARD: When moving toward a target, a figure is attempting to decrease the number of spaces between it and the target. During the movement, the figure can increase distance if by doing so, the end result allows it to be closer.

So, in combination, when a command is given to SPOT a particular hero, a monster will move toward that hero (decreasing the distance while doing so), and will stop when it is 3 spaces away, and has line of sight.  If it has moved to within 3 spaces, and still has movement points, but does not have line of sight, it will continue to move toward the target until it does have line of sight or until it has exhausted its movement points, whatever comes first.

The monster will do the same thing if the action tells it to SPOT as many heroes as possible, with the exception that doing so may put it at varying distances from each of the heroes, but always at least within 3 spaces, and always with line of sight to as many of the heroes as possible.

For example, if all 4 heroes are aligned in such a way that you can move the monster towards a particular space on the board that will allow you line of sight to all 4 heroes, and be within 3 spaces of all 4 heroes, you do so.  It doesn't matter if you are 3 spaces away from 2 heroes, 1 space away from another, and 2 spaces away from the last.

If the monster's movement points only allow you to do so for 3 of the heroes, or 2 of the heroes, or 1 of the heroes, you will attempt to move for 3 of the heroes, so that you are affecting as many as possible.

In essence, you are trying to get within a reasonable attack range (range 3) for further actions that may occur further down the command tree.  This would include attack actions, any monster abilities that affect heroes within 3 spaces, etc. Keep in mind that 3 spaces is a very key distance in D2e for many skills, OL cards, monster abilities, etc.

And yes, you can consider the fact that you don't move closer yet, even though you may have remaining movement, because that monster does not want to be itself threatened by attacks from heroes, or to have skill cards played on the monster that allow melee counterattacks, nimble to move out of the way, etc. Further, often times a command further down the tree will tell the monster to attack, and then use any remaining movement to retreat.  By stopping at a distance of 3, it potentially allows the monster additional movement to retreat further away from the target.

Finally, if a monster is already within 3 spaces of a hero (or 2 or 1) and is given a spot command, it DOES NOT move further way to get to a distance of 3.  This is because SPOT requires you to REDUCE the distance to the target.  In this case, you skip the SPOT command, both due to rules, as well as to allow multiple actions to be executed (not spending one on SPOT) since you are already within the distance required.

I hope the above helps and makes sense.

    Just a clarification/nit-pick:

Fire breath can target the stone, can affect the stone, but the original target cannot be behind the stone, because the stone would block line of sight to the target (because it's an obstacle, follow normal rules for line of sight).

The thing about cannon fodder is that it has a purpose.

It is undeniable that zombies are underwhelminng even in the core set, moreso with expansions. While not a strong open group pick, they have a role in a number of quests as a set group which is intentionally flimsy and intentionally slow. For the objective-based quests, balance is not just a function of power- numbers is a big part of it, too.

Game design aside, zombies are pretty good, thematically. Slow and non-threatening alone, but can quickly become dangerous in a group.

I am not Zaltyre, but I can answer that any ability that grants movement points give you a pool of such that you can use to move, so if you get 1 MP from the boots and 1 MP from your bard skill, you could indeed move through your ally and out of the entrance...HOWEVER, remember that you cannot interrupt/perform an "action" while in an invalid space, so you would have to have used your bard skill before entering the space containing your ally.

That particular quest was an irritant of mine when my group played the shadow rune campaign.

That said, to add my two cents, are you sure that all the monsters who attacked had the proper line of sight? If they were, as you said stacked two deep, then the second line wouldn't be able to attack unless the first line moved after attacking. Not impossible, but it does mean that your "two line deep" wouldn't be that way at the end of the OL turn.

As to your question about what I think about focusing fire: What's good for the goose, is good for the gander.
