  1. That is impressive! Now I never stated it would be impossible, just fiddly. I salute you good sir!
  2. A new repaint, though nothing special this time. Just one of my personal Zeds painted to match my YV-666. This little guy helped me reach top 4 in the local regionals tournament last month.
  3. 1) Get as much reference material as possible. 2) Patience, patience and more patience. 3) Measure twice, cut once. 4) Measure thrice, cut wrong anyway. 5) Curse the world for wasting some plasticard 6) Meaure a fourth time, cut correctly this time. I know the first one I built is usually used as a Firespray, though nothing stops it being used as something else.
  4. Oh I like these. I had the same idea originally with my own Brobots but decided not to go this route. I'm happy to see it made a reality.
  5. Unfortunately, ships that small are difficult to scratch build, too damned fiddly, and besides, it would be easier and cheaper just to get 3D-printed versions of the ships.
  6. I'm back bee-atches! Yeah I know you've missed me. When I finished the Sentinel transport it was time to prepare for the Regionals (got to third place) and after that I took some well deserved rest. Anyway, it's time for yet another scratch build, a Wayfarer-class Transport. This is the third Wayfarer I've built and it's starting to get a bit tedious. So I'm going to look into casting the ship! Unfortunately I have no experience with casting so I need to spend some time and learn the process first. Anyone with experience with who is willing to help me?
  7. That Kihraxz is bloody awesome, mate! However, how did you manage to get your thread moved from the main forum to the paint sub-section? I'd like to the same with my paint thread.
  8. Another one to be finished. Go to my blog or my forum thread for the rest of the pictures.
  9. Hasn't Robocop suffered enough? That's a reference youngsters probably won't get. Of course now I just made myself feel old.
  10. Of course you are all wrong for blaming the dice. Now Murphy on the other hand...
  11. For me it would be the HWK. I've been using Palob, Torkil Mux and Roark Garnet to great effect for quite some time. The trick is keeping the ship cheap, if you exceed 30 points you have effed up badly. Also, remember to keep a bigger threat nearby.
  12. Now that is a cool looking ship! Well done mate!
  13. Oh yes, it's good to know your limitations. For me one of those limitations is sculpting. Give me edges, angles and anything I can measure and calculate and I can probably build it. Hand me a blob of sculpting clay and that blob will likely still be a blob by the end of the day. Didn't update yesterday as I was too busy putting the finishing touches on the ship. Oh yeah, it's finished! Now it only needs a proper coat of paint. The bridge/cockpit is probably a tad bit too big, but considering I built it pretty much freehand (didn't even have a scale drawing to go off) it's to be expected and besides, it doesn't detract much from the overall look.
  14. Muhahaha! My plan of complete domination over the peons is proceeding as planned! *Cough* I mean, don't say that, feel inspired to produce your own great creations. Anyway, the wings has been detailed.
  15. Fixed the dorsal wing and mounted it on top of the cargo pod.
  16. Slow down there mate, let me finish this one first. Besides, I don't think I'm good enough to scratch build something that it is only visible for half a second and mostly consists of a massive fireball. Anyway, basically finished the bridge/cockpit.
  17. Started on the cockpit/bridge. Due to all the small pieces and multiple angles, this is a fairly complex part of the build.
  18. Time for another scratch build! This time a Sentinel-class landing craft. I'm mostly basing the ship around the one found in the horrible Star Wars Kinect game, though with the cockpit/bridge in the style of the Rebels version. There's no official size for the ship. Many sources claim 20 meters though that is clearly bollocks. It just can't be the same size as a Lambda shuttle. A more realistic estimate puts between 30-40 meters in length and my best personal puts it at around 37 meters so that is what I'm aiming for. I started with the rear of the ship as that would be hardest part. The wings had to move and also be detachable and preferably not damage the paint job in the process. I had to utilise my oversized noggin' quite a bit and the pictures below include an early prototype.
  19. First time I've heard this game be refereed to as Pay to Win. The Urban Dictionary defines the term as: 'Games that let you buy better gear or allow you to make better items then everyone else at a faster rate and then makes the game largely unbalanced even for people who have skill in the game without paying.' I don't think that is a fair comparison at all. The closest comparison would be with collectible card games like Magic the Gathering. In X-wing there is a known quantity of items in each expansion and everyone that want can get each expansion, though it is by no means necessary for high level competitive play. With collectible card games you have to either rely on the ultimate Random Number Generator, ie life, to get the cards you want or pay ridiculously overcharged prices through unofficial outlets like Ebay in order to secure a winning deck. Sure, both costs money but I'm pretty sure which of them could be accurately be called Pay to Win.

    YV-666

I love my YV-666 and have had great success flying them. The trick IMO is to keep them fairly cheap. A Trandoshan Slaver with Gunner and Bossk is a solid investment that works in many lists. I also have plans to try a slaver with 4-Lom, Zuckuss and Dengar. Will probably not hit as hard as the Gunner + Bossk combo but should make up for it by being cheaper and its ability to mess with enemy defence dice.
  21. I was thinking about it but decided against it in the end. The red of the rebel symbol would have added yet another colour, something I was keen to avoid. Too many colours can ruin a paintjob though admittedly it might not have been such a big deal in this case. Right or wrong however, this is the way the model ended up. Me likey! Are those really in 1/270 scale and where can I find them? There have been several squads that has used the skull logo, VF-61, VF-84 and VFA-103.
