  1. The more warning labels something have, the better it is!
  2. Gaps between plating? You mean panel lines? If so, there are tools for that called plastic scribers.
  3. 3D printed or not, that's still one beautiful-looking paint job on the short hauler Macross! How did you go about smoothing the model? I mostly just used my assortment of sanding sticks to smooth down any irregularities and hints of 3D printing (I think it's called stepping). Of course, due to the shape of the model and the placement of certain details, it is impossible to reach every nook and cranny. Thankfully most of those places are on the belly or to the rear of the ship, which means they are thankfully not terribly visible.
  4. I get a blank page. Can anyone post it please? Strange, I used to be able to click that link without problem, now I only get a greyed out 'No entry for vehicles' sign.
  5. As much as I like praise, you are giving me too much credit here. That's a 3D-printed model, though I have spent considerable time polishing and smoothing it out in order to make it look better.
  6. Another nice little ship, the B-wing Prototype. Unlike most B-wing Prototype repaints this one is fairly heavily converted with the proper weapons pod, a reworked cockpit pod and lots of small details and greebles removed/altered.
  7. And here is a GX-1 Short Hauler, painted to mimic a ship found in Star Wars Rebels.
  8. It looks cool, rides high in order not to bump into everything and comes apart for easy storage? You've thought of everything! Seriously, stuff like that impresses me more than just a cool outside. Anyone could potentially build something cool looking given time, but doing something like what you have done takes some engineering skills. Good job mate!
  9. That's a pretty cool ship. The name is especially awesome! One of the more important tools in my arsenal is the simple razor saw. They come in several sizes and shapes but one thing they have in common is the thin blade and that is crucial for this type of conversion.
  10. And here is another of the promised repaints. It's my take on the TIE Shuttle, though I took my inspiration from here.
  11. That custom Firespray if yours is pretty darn cool, but I'll be damned if it doesn't look like it's going to be a pain in the rear to use and store.
  12. There are several ways to strip paint, but personally I prefer denatured alcohol/spirits. Of course brand names and availability differ quite a lot between countries so I couldn't tell you which one to use.
  13. There might be one later this year, if all research surrounding the project pans out. However that one won't be X-wing related so I don't think it would be appropriate to post anything here.
  14. Seconded! I'm more excited for a Macross post than the FFG previews lately! If I was ever to find out that he/she is off adulting in the real world and not dedicating their time to diligently fill our screens with glorious images of plastic pawn to appease us .. I will be very .. VERY disappointed! Well then, you will be very dissappointed then. I've recently had my summer vacation and it happened to coincide with the Summer Steam sale. Do the math. Anyway, I'm back, and with another Nashtah Pup. Stay tuned for more this coming week...
  15. While it seems simple, painting yellow is anything but. Thumbs up mate!
  16. My name is Macross_VF1 and I approve of this thread. And not only because one of my creations is featured here! I really like seeing so many good painters featured side by side, it helps bring out everyones personal style of painting.
  17. No, absolutely no. And it comes down to simple numbers. While I admit that the sample size isn't the greatest, my experience in all the tournaments I've participated in there have only been a small percentage of people that bother with any sort of painting. Mostly it's simple things like blood stripes or changing an A-wing from red to green or similar modifications. Even fewer people actually repaint entire ships, in fact locally I'm really the only one that do proper repaints, scratch builds and/or conversions. Basically, it's damnably difficult to have any sort of competition when so few participate. Would prize support raise the number of people doing repaints? Sure, but I'm not convinced it would make a big difference. This is not Warhammer, where everyone is required to paint their stuff. However, all is not lost. While I do think it would be a bad to include painting rewards in organised play, I certainly won't begrudge TO's doing so of their own choosing. Also I would like to suggest an alternative. FFG should arrange a specific painting competition, let's say once or twice a year, where people who are into painting get to show off their stuff and a panel of judges or perhaps by vote choose the winner.
  18. You know what, I kinda like this version of the Defender. It is indeed slimmer, and it looks faster, as befits the ship.
  19. I certainly should recognise it seeing as I built one last year. The Delta-class shuttle has not (yet) been established as a canon ship which means there are quite a few versions of it floating around. Would you care to show which version of the ship you are basing your scratch build on?
  20. That could potentially be the start of a Nu-, Theta-, or Delta-class shuttle. I'm leaning towards Delta.
  21. Norra Wexley? Where does this info come from?
  22. Those MLP Brobots are truly horrifying! And I mean that in the best possible way.
  23. I'm honored to hear this from you That is impressive! Now I never stated it would be impossible, just fiddly. I salute you good sir! And I know you didn't say it's impossible. But I thought: "Well, I think I can debunk the cost and time statement" When I talk about cost I mean what it would cost to commission a scratchbuild versus the cost of buying a 3D-printed model. I can really only speak for myself but if someone wanted to commission me to build an Assault Gunboat I would instead point them to the 3D model as it would be cheaper.
