  1. When I play Epic or games over 100 points (done 3,000 before), I usually just print a list from Yet Another and use that as my ref. Shields are drawn on and crossed out, damage cards assigned to that ship's row/stat line. It saves a helluva lot of time setting up and cleaning up.
  2. I wish they'd have used more angular shaped engines that would flush into the shape of the U-Wing rather than copy-pasting X-Wing engines onto the tips of the wings. I feel like it was a missed opportunity/wasted design.
  3. I feel like there aren't enough lists that are cramped enough for Ruthlessness to trigger, except for TIE Swarm. Sure, you can control their range with the threat of splash damage causing them to space out their units, but I don't think that's as beneficial as landing consistent hits on a target, especially for an EPT that costs 3 points. I'd rather run VI or possibly Lone Wolf on Vessery for a competitive initiative or some defensive re-rolls. Crack Shot might even be the best option on something like an Ion/D or Tractor/D Vessery to guarantee the control cannon's shot will hit, popping off an evade die on top of a TL would be pretty nasty.
  4. I think it's even possible to fill a convention center room (like SCG LA for Magic: The Gathering) to accommodate for the number of players willing to participate in the event. I remember going to SCG LA in 2014, there were at least 500+ players there, if not 1,000 players in the main event. They also had several dedicated rooms for different formats that would coincide with the main event for those who dropped or attended the event solely for the side events. Granted, MtG is a much more quick and compact game, but with proper organizational methods and an adequate amount of skilled/trained staff and volunteers, I think it's very possible for FFG to pull off their Worlds event in a larger venue.
  5. Lightsabers are considered weapons of antiquity with the Jedi Order/Sith being its reliquary. Hence, the short-ranged, bladed weapon is believed to be outclassed by projectile weaponry and alternative combat technology, yet, the Jedi and Sith will still use them due to their belief in its practicality and application to their religion and ideals. As a comparison to the Transcendentalist Movement, writers such as Thoreau and Walden often relinquished their ways of modern dependence and decided to be in tune with their beliefs and roots in nature (much like the ideologies of the Jedi being one with the Force). The way they choose to express this is by living in the woods, enveloped in nature, and living in an outdated, outclassed structure such as a log cabin rather than building a brick or steel structure that would not be in the same aesthetic or appeal in nature, just as the Jedi prefer to use lightsabers for combat rather than blasters. I guess I should have been more specific. What I meant was: Are log cabins really to american culture what light sabers are to Star Wars? Are log cabins even an american thing? They must have been used for thousands of years (literally) before Leif Eriksson set sail to discover the continent. American in the sense of it being related to Transcendentalism as an American movement, yes. The lightsaber-to-cabin comparison doesn't necessarily mean all cabins ever, but Americans using cabins in similar principle to Jedis using light sabers.
  6. My gamble: Fat Han + 3 Z-95s

  8. This is quite an awesome topic and a fun read! I've always been fascinated on the socio-cultural influence that Star Wars has utilized and has on others. I'm a literature major myself and plan on becoming an instructor, hopefully I'll land a spot in a college that will allow me to teach "Literary Theory in Star Wars" that would parallel the franchise with works of literature throughout the ages.
  9. I really like that idea. Having Omega L's restrictor ability on top of an already restrictive format would be nuts. The point distribution will also give me access to Howlrunner off the get-go and I build up her swarm-ball as the tourney progresses. Thanks for the input!
  10. Got an Escalation Tournament coming up this Saturday and I was thinking of going for a simple/annoying list: 60 points: Black Squadron Pilot (14) Crack Shot (1) Black Squadron Pilot (14) Crack Shot (1) Black Squadron Pilot (14) Crack Shot (1) Black Squadron Pilot (14) Crack Shot (1) 90 points: Black Squadron Pilot (14) Crack Shot (1) Black Squadron Pilot (14) Crack Shot (1) 120 points: Black Squadron Pilot (14) Crack Shot (1) Black Squadron Pilot (14) Crack Shot (1) 150 points: ???????? I'm stumped at the last 30 points. I would just cram another pair of Crack Squadron Pilots, but per the rules of Escalation, I cannot. I could always cram a PtL-AT-Inquisitor or PtL-Fel, or even Omega Leader's "Lockdown" setup, but it just wouldn't feel right. Any other alternatives for my last 30 points? Maybe Vader with ATC-Adaptability...?
  11. Han Solo + PtL + Palpatine + EU (61) Chewbacca + Predator + C-3PO + Rebel Captive (51) Elle Asty + PtL + Unhinged Astro + Autothrusters + Weapons Guidance (38)
  12. "You tou". As a Brit, you need the extraneous u. Oh go add a Z where an S belongs. So we would have to refer to them as S-95 Headhunters now?
  13. Kylo Ren Imperial/First Order only. Once per round, when an enemy ship hits you, you may deal one face down damage card to that ship. 5 points
  14. Scouts can just run OCR4 and use the spare point to upgrade to Proton Torps. With Chips and the odds of rolling 4 dice, you're still getting 4 hits at the cost of a stress token, right?
  15. ****, now using Lando on the VCX with Experimental Interface and Kyle Katarn just became less appealing (not that I was planning on rolling 2 evade results anyway).
  16. Firing round 1, blow up Rebel Captive Firing round 2, blow up Mara Jade Everything else is sweep up even with 2 dice turrets
  17. I think S-Foils would need to cost at least 4pts given that they do that much on one card, despite it limiting your actions AND ships that can take it.
  18. Not sure if this idea has been had before, but I was driving home from work and had an idea on how to randomize your pilots. Just take a numbered list of named pilots and a numbered list of ships you'd like to chance placing them in and roll an X-sided die accordingly. For example: Pilot pool (D10): 1: Wedge Antilles 2. Han Solo 3: Soontir Fel 4: Darth Vader 5: Corran Horn 6: Rear Admiral Chiraneau 7: Dash Rendar 8: Rexler Brath 9: Luke Skywalker 10: Maarek Stele Ship pool (D6): 1: X-Wing 2: TIE Advanced 3: E-Wing 4: TIE Interceptor 5: A-Wing 6: Firespray-31 When I rolled, I got: Wedge Antilles - TIE Interceptor Corran Horn - Firespray-31 Luke Skywalker - X-Wing Rear Admiral Chiraneau - A-Wing Wedge Antilles - E-Wing Han Solo - TIE Interceptor I know Star Trek AW has the problem of putting busted character effects on ships that make them even more busted, but hey, maybe randomizing your chances of ship + pilot would help. I think it would be interesting to field RAC in an A-Wing and Han in an Interceptor. For cost purposes, if the original pilot cost more than 40 points and is from a large ship placed into a small ship, subtract 1/4 of the point cost and apply that to the ship the pilot is placed in. Of course, I have no math to back it up, just a quick recommendation. You can even keep the ships and pilots faction-specific for thematic balance or even go up to whatever die maximum you wish. So maybe you want to see Vader in a Firespray or Dengar in a StarViper. Maybe even Poe Dameron in the Falcon, or Chewbacca on the VCX! Of course, you can do this without the randomization, but I figured that randomizing the pilot and ships would make for fun games. Let me know what combos you get just for fun! (Hint: http://www.brockjones.com/dieroller/dice.htmmakes it easy!)
  19. I've always had trouble figuring out where to magnetize the Defender due to the awkward positioning of the wings and the stem attachment. I never thought of placing the magnet there for the Defender. I'll have to try that out.
  20. I'm up for a "Super Viper" title: +1 Attack, +1 Shield, -1 Agility. 5 points.
  21. Many moons ago, I landed a Direct Hit! off of a blank-crit result at range 3 against a shieldless, cloaked and focused Whisper with a Bandit Squadron Pilot.
  22. It's also possible that Asmodee acquired FFG in order to access their behind-closed-doors MathWing assets and information in order to predict the Brexit outcome in order to make a quick, albeit small, profit (yet, it is a profit nonetheless) off of the desperate players within the X-Wing community by exploiting their impatience to force-choke the market into submission.
  23. Punisher, 65, Scyk for me. I want to see a Wedge-Wes-Biggs list smash the competition!
