  1. Best of the Best

    Elite, Named Pilot Only

Generic pilots roll one less die when attacking you or defending against you.

Cost would probably need to be in the 3 to 5 point range, but it would be wonderfully thematic.

lol this just takes a massive steaming **** on BBBBZ or TIE Swarm

  2. -We used an "initiative coin" that determined which team had initiative to move and shoot on conflicting Pilot Skills. Worked out really well, I also think it would be cool to implement in standard games, but we'll need to test that out.

Did you use the initiative token that came with The Force Awakens core set?  I thought it was clever of them to add that to the new core.

Sounds like it was a blast!

Yeah, you can actually see it in the first photo! :D

But we would pass the pin over to the other side each turn so initiative would switch over turn after turn. We figured it would balance out the game's turn order for shooting and activating, which is something we would like to try in the 100 point format to see how it affects our strategies.

  3. Thanks for the compliments guys!

It probably would've taken us another 2-3 hours for the rest of the game. It was really picking up since at least 4 or 5 ships were going down per turn.

As for objectives, we might consider adding some CTF or control points to hold down. This game we were keeping track of awards like "First Blood" and "Kingslayer" for fun.

  4. Man, shields shouldn't count towards victory points.  Shields come right back!  If you haven't damaged the hull, then you haven't done any real damage!

You can actually repair hull too.

But all the repair stuff is Rebel exclusive.

Technically, you can put the WED-15 Repair Droid on the Raider, which means Imperials have access to repair stuff too...

  5. I like to see weird canonical situations like the way JJ set up the modern Star Trek movies by making a loophole-blackhole-time-distortion-thingy that still connects the new ST universe to the old one, but has complete freedom for story and character development.

Yeah, Biggs is dead when Corran or Poe is around, but maybe this Biggs accidentally went through some weird timewarping phenomenon that landed him in a different dimension. Or the universe where he was mercilessly explodified was just a bad dream Biggs was having before he took off to fly alongside Han and some dude in a Z-95.

    Idk. Makes sense to me.

    I think.

  6. Never played in a tournament - probably never will.  Love scenarios!!!  Asymmetric combat - YES!!!  Search and destroy missions, interdiction missions, rescue missions, reconnaissance missions - yes, Yes, and more YES!  Pick story bits from movies and books and replay them.  I like winning but I like an imaginative challenge with a back-story even more.

I guess its my decades of historical and fantasy wargaming.  The dog fights get repetitive for me.  100 x 100 lists are educational and good for an occasional challenge.

    This sounds wonderful - https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/186308-x-wing-co-op-campaign-is-here/?hl=%2Bco-op+%2Bcampaign

How about 500 x 500 point in a gymnasium, with some serious space clutter and a worm-hole.....

    *shameless self-promotion...*

Also did a 500vs500 recently. Doing another one this Friday. I'm sure if you were in my local area you'd love to get into the crazy games we throw!

  7. Really, do you play for fun? Haven't taken a game too seriously since Regionals, I got burned out from competitive mode but I love X-Wing so much that I could never play another competitive event again and still be happy. I still buy all of the new stuff, I still play to win, I still enjoy generic T-65 X-Wings, I still like playing and playing against turrets (even without Autothrusters), I still like Brobots, I still like TIE Swarm, I still like 4K'ing my Defenders to victory... I think you get the idea.

One thing I have noticed in the recent weeks is that there is a rampant increase of "Fix-it" and "New Core Set is doing/going to _____" threads that are popping up. This leads me to assume that a good amount of people are either not having fun with the game or are only looking at the competitive/tournament value of the game, and I've participated a bit in those as well.

I'm just wondering if we're all still having fun with X-Wing. I mean, jousting values and calculating points cost is nice and stuff, but when are you gonna dust off and bust out the X-Wings and TIE Bombers and StarVipers for fun again and not worry about MoV or the brokenness of whatever card cramping your style? Because lately it seems that most of what I'm hearing is grief about something not being playable when in reality everything is playable when it comes to having fun! :D
