  1. My group played the incoming mission last night and I had a few questions:

    1. Can the imperial player bombard if they have no figures on the map?  The rebels wiped the starting imperials off the board pretty quickly, would the imperial player have to chase after the rebels until they can see into bunker to start bombardment.

    2. What is considered an "Exterior Wall"?  There are a couple voids that are completely surrounded by tiles, are those "exterior walls"?

    3. In what order does the imperial player resolve the end of round bombardment versus deployment of reinforcements?

I appreciate the help with these questions

  2. I am confused by their segment on opposing a mission.  The mission is the build alliance mission which requires the influence symbol (yellow circle with a triangle in it).  Mon Mothma has three of those symbols on her card.  The Emperor opposes (also with three influence symbols).  Per the second bullet point, both players need to roll dice equal to their influence symbols on the leaders.  Why does the Emperor only roll two dice rather than three?

  3. Why were the debris cloud rules not included with the FAQ?  Is there an official document (the screenshot does help) that lists the debris cloud rules so that someone without a debris cloud can at least look up the rules for debris clouds?

  5.

Z-95's appear to have 3 upgrade slots. Hmmm...

Can't really tell but it looks like missiles and torps.

The PS7 pilot at the end looks like an EPT, Missile, and an Illicit slot

From what I can tell, its ability is to get an extra attack dice if there are no friendly ships within range 1 or 2

  6.

The issue with SoS the way that Fantasy Flight defined it in their tournament rules was that it was straight points.  A player who won three matches in a tournament added 15 points to each of his opponent's SoS.  If that player then drops and three more rounds are played, his opponents are missing out on the potential of earning up to 15 more points to their SoS (although the dropped player could have just lost all three games).

As a TO myself, SoS was obnoxious to calculate because I had program a spreadsheet to continually update the SoS for each player based on rounds played after a match.  What I like about MoV is that I just have to calculate it at the round end and then not worry about updating the SoS each player gained from playing in prior rounds after each round.  Granted, I am sure there is software out there that will do it all automatically, but I was unable to find it before I ran my first tournament.

It is true that with MoV you now need to have the players report the difference in points killed, but I was already having them report the points killed anyways as a second tiebreaker in case of a SoS tie.

In short, I am in favor of this new system as a TO, simply because it makes the book keeping easier.

Instead of doing a SoS spread sheet for each round you could have used one of the brilliant PC/Mac based programs or even the iPad/smartphone Apps. We've used them without any kind of major hiccups

You are right, and I have since found them.  I became the TO for my store somewhat suddenly and was unable to find those programs when I did a quick search.  Plus, most of those programs are third party and I would want to vet the program against my own numbers.

Out of curiosity, what app / software package do you prefer to use?

  8. I am in the process of ordering more foam for my Battlefoam carrying cases and I have extra space in the tray I am creating.  I would like to anticipate Wave 5's release and have slots available for the YT-2400 and VT-49.  Does anybody know (or can accurately predict) the shape of foam I will need to have Battlefoam cut?

According to the Internet, the YT-2400 is  18.65 M long by 28.5 M wide, which translates to ~2.72" x 4.2" in the 1/270 scale.

For the VT-49, all I could find was its length (38 M) which is ~5.54".

I could find no reference to the height of these models so I can get the right thickness of foam.  Any suggestions?

  9. Thanks for the feedback, I do appreciate it.  I do not expect this league to be very large so hopefully I can just pair like a tournament.  A Google Drive spreadsheet is a great idea for keeping everyone on the same page in terms of match ups.

You are right, some players, especially newer players may not know where to start when it comes to building a squad.  The link to the other forum topic is an excellent thing to provide them.

    Thanks!

  10. My game store is looking to run an X-Wing league and I thought that adapting the tournament rules for escalation would be the best way to do this.  Following the escalation rules, week one would be 60 points, adding 30 points / week and culminating in 150 points after four weeks.  I am not requiring that the players submit their list for all four weeks at the start, rather at the beginning of each week they submit their list with the additional points.  They still have to use all the ships with upgrades from the previous weeks but instead they get to add ships and upgrades based on what the other people are flying.

I have a few questions though:

    1. I would like for people to play more than one game a week, especially in the early weeks when a 60 point match should take less than an hour.  I also do not want to penalize players who are only able to play a single match a week.  Does anybody have any suggestions on how to do rankings when people play a different number of games each week?  Maybe end it with a mini-tournament on the fifth week to determine prizes?

    2. While the FLGS hosts X-Wing on Thursday nights, I recognize that not everyone will be able to attend each Thursday and want them to have the option to arrange a different day to play at the store (ie two players in the league agree to meet at the store on Saturday to play a game for the league).  With that in mind, I do not necessarily want to pair players up each week.  I also do not want two friends to just play each other each week and not play other people.  Any suggestions on handle this situation?

Anything other good suggestions on how to organize this?

  11. Game Night Games in Salt Lake City, UT is hosting an Assault and Imdaar Alpha Tournament on Saturday May 31st with registration starting at 10 AM and the tournament starting at 10:30 AM.  The cost is $5.  Come for a day of good fun and lots of dog fighting.

    Game Night Games

    2148 S 900 E Suite 2

    Salt Lake City, UT 84106

The tournament will be following the official X-Wing rules and FAQ posted on Fantasy Flight. This will be a 100 point standard dogfight.  Everything is legal up to the Tantive IV.  Also remember that the top two will have to build a squadron of either Rebels or Imperials with the Wave IV preview ships.

If you have a custom game mat I encourage you to bring it.  Please PM me with any questions.

  12. I have a rules question in regards to performing a 1 Turn and bumping another ship.  The rules state that if you would overlap another ship when performing a maneuver you track backwards on the maneuver template until your base is just touching there keeping the maneuver template in between the front and rear guides of of the base.  I tried to do this last night and the 1 turn template makes it very difficult to keep the template centered.  How do you execute the maneuver?

We just centered the maneuver template with the rear guides on the base, I could also see using the front guides to be correct.  I could also see ensuring that the center of the template goes through the midpoint between the guides on the front and back even if that means the template is outside of the guides?

    I appreciate your help.
