  1. I'm all for this cuz this is a big deal... HOWEVER... this violates the spirit of the game in some ways. There's a rebel mission that makes imperial players put back cards into the deck, so having the memory element actually be a thing matters for those situations. Of course, on the flip side, a real galactic overlord would have a map with xs that are checked. lol

  2. I'm changing my mind on the stormtroopers. I might do black base coat and then heavy white drybrushing.

    What do you all think?

Might have been a better way to do things. I did white base coat with the nuhn oil then white on top and the dark spots really didn't show through as much as I'd have liked.

I'm an owner, and big fan, of the Team Covenant tokens. The thing that made me hesitate the most when deciding whether to purchase them was the non-standard iconography thing, but again, that became second-nature very quickly. For example, I introduced the tokens when playing with a friend who only sees the game once a month, and he took to them immediately.

One minor issue is that it could be easier to distinguish the resource and wound tokens, especially since it's the most common mixed-token use case on a single card. But in practice I've found it relatively painless, despite the fact that I often play in a pretty low-lit space. (A little extra staining on the faces of the wound tokens would've been perfect, though.)

Definitely a nice "feel" upgrade to cardboard, and the visuals are even better in person than in their videos. And my set is very consistent in quality. Darned expensive, though.

Did you go with all the different types of tokens and did that seem worth it? They seem easy to distinguish. Seems like you'd just need one for resource (don't think I'd get the 3 resource one), one for damage marking and one for progress, right (as cool as all the various damage tokens look)   There's no difference in different types of damage or anything overall is there? That was just their flavor addition?

  4. As I'm getting more into the game... I dislike cardboard. Maybe it's a bit esoteric but I like upgrading game components when I'm really into something as well. So I've been looking at Team Covenant's tokens and thinking about it. I see there's some acrylic ones on etsy that really don't feel thematic to me.

Now my experience with wood tokens in the past is that they can really vary in quality. Does anyone have these? Are they nice? I dig their resource tokens, treachery tokens and especially the arrow damage tokens (those look sharp).  Debating whether I should go with multiple types of damage tokens or stick with one for simplicity. Resource... I sort of want actual coins maybe rather than wood, not sure yet even though I like the design. And I'm not sure I love the design of the progress tokens.

So I guess the question is -- what are you using for the above? Do you have the TC ones and how's the quality of the actual physical product?

  5. I have an extra because my wife played also so we got 2 and really only need one. I am looking for either an alt-art Gimli or an AGOT 2.0 "A Game Of Thrones" promo which I believe was given out at Gencon and some more at Worlds. Is anyone up for a trade? :) Alternatively I guess I could sell it and buy said AGOT promo but would be easier to do a straight trade!

  6. LOL.  Yea. I knew Legolas's progress would go on the quest, but the rules dictate that any progress to the quest mustgo on the active location first.  I do have a quick question though about the Silvan scouts that put progress on the "active location".  If there is no active location - does it spill over to the quest?

I've always played that it just whiffs because I think active location becomes more specific where the rules actually dictate that quest tokens go to active location when there is one for tokkens that go on the quest.

  7. So I've compiled a list of all of the Lord of the Rings sets out there, and there's 43 currently in 6 cycles, not counting the nightmare decks or any of that stuff. Just interested in player cards for the sake of this thought. I'm in the game about 6 months now, and am having trouble finding a couple packs from Shadows of Mirkwood or Dwarrowdelf, and FFG is out on their store here. I'm told they're out of print from LGS.  Some of those cards seem a bit crucial to optimal deck construction.

So the question is-- is there a rotation planned? I know this is much more of a casual game and we're talking one fellowship event a year + gencon for "competitive" play, but just wondering how hard I should pursue these older sets. The adventures are fun but missing some cards from Return to Mirkwood and Foundations of Stone especially seems to be tough.

  8. I'm not new-new since I've played for a little bit and have a few of the expansions, but it looks like most people and blogs tend to build decks with Lore/Leadership and Spirit/Tactics. My wife and I have played and we've flipped that so I have a Lore/Tactics deck and she's got a Spirit/Leadership deck. Hers really is the main quest engine and mine does some buffing and handles most of the attacks (I'd say overall hers handles both a little better). Are we making it harder on ourselves by not playing synergistic spheres? Or does it not really matter because we've got everything covered between the two decks? Probably will make it harder to solo or go to play with other people if that's the case.

I'm also wondering if I'm going too heavy lore when I should be doing tactics.  I'm running Legolas / Bilbo (card draw) / Denethor and while I'm very much enjoying the card draw from Bilbo, he feels a little useless other than that.  I've got the hobbit expansions and the first couple of Shadows of Mirkwood packs so we don't have a huge card pool for player cards. I do run mostly lore cards though, but find myself never having enough money for most of my good tactics stuff.

  9.

You play at Fremont? :D Who is this? Have I met you? haha I'd be so down!

Sadly I don't play at Fremont although I do play with Kevin at work. I live in the Southbay so frequent trips up to Freemont in the week are a bit tricky. I hadn't realized there was such a great community there so I may try and head up more often.

Cool, I'm up in danville so I don't get down tooooo offten but I'd be down to play occasionally! Especially at a fellowship event like this. Hope one is going on around us.
