  3. The difference between Gencon and any other National Championship was Gencon. You had stuff to do which pulled players away from playing in the top 64 (2). There were people who were winning that dropped. Players were 2-0 and dropped to attend Gencon. Comparing any other National Championship to Gencon's Championship is actually unfair to the US National Championship. If you get 64 in Canada, that would be a great thing for X-Wing. If I could afford it I would come up and play.

  4. The breakdown of players in a 5 round 64 player tournament with a cut to top 4 will be as follows:

    5-0 = 2

    4-1 = 10

    3-2 = 20

    2-3 = 20

    1-4 = 10

    0-5 = 2

So with this break down, once you lose two you are completely out of the tournament. Only two players with the highest MOV will move on out of the 4-1 bracket. Understand I am using wins and losses to define this. You can convert the list to points. This does not factor in Draws and Modified wins. This is just a base I use with the consideration of all things being equal and perfect.

With 6 rounds you have the breakdown of:

    6-0 = 1

    5-1 = 6

    4-2 = 15

    3-3 = 20

    2-4 = 15

    1-5 = 6

    0-6 = 1

Moving to a top 8 you now have a broader field and one 2 loss player will make the cut. This makes 2 losses worth staying for.

  5. The "Super Bye" is the real reward for winning a regional tournament. Full point and full MOV is very important and should be the reward. I will put this out here now. If you have questions or concerns how the tournament went contact me with your issues, complaints, and even positive things we did. Other than a few minor corrections we only had one major snafu which was the Saturday Round 3 where I had to repair the round due to player drops being marked wrong, then two players dropping in between pairings and not telling anyone. Beyond that, there wasn't any other major issues that I know of. This is a tough tournament to run. With the con going on each day, the amount of drops was hard to keep up with at times. Like I said though, if you have any comments, please email me at xwingtoman@aol.com. I will take the time to answer all of the emails.

  6. Herm... looking at the results... I know they are wrong.  They have Phildo listed at 10 points, but he went 3-2 so he should be at 9, 12, or 15, not 10.  They clearly only marked him as winning two games.  Which wouldn't be the first time they made a mistake.  After the first round, the second round pairings had me playing a person that was 1-0 while my first round opponent  who beat me, was matched against someone 0-1.  I brought this to the TO, and they confirmed that they put the win down next to my name, not his.  And on Thursday, they were treating the super bye as a loss until round 4, when they switched it to a win...

So, as always with a large tourney, mistakes were made by everyone.  Hopefully none of them affected the cuts though.

None were affected. Yes Mistakes were made, but most were corrected. That was the most exciting time I have had running tournaments. Plus, running on 10 hours of sleep over the 3 days and working 15+ hours for the first tournament is a bit taxing. All in all it went well though.

  7. MajorJuggler, I will have the results from the NA Championship to you on Tuesday. I am going to finalize the top 62 then submit it to FFG. Once I am done. I will have the list with MOV and score in order up to the top 8. I get back to Omaha on Monday then will work on it Tuesday Morning. Was one heck of a 3 days.

  8. A couple of things to Note. FFG has a set of parameters that must be followed when running a regional. there must be a cut, and it is based upon players attending. They actually have rigid rules for running this which is actually very nice. It will keep all of these events running in a similar fashion.
