  1. The first Regionals tournament of the 2017 Worlds Season held here at Sparta! Come and play with the best for your chance at great prizes, good times, and automatic inclusion (and a bye) in the 2017 X-Wing World Championship.

Lunch will be served and is included with your registration.

After some discussion, and some painful 13 hour marathon experiences, we realized that tournament is large enough that out of town attendees would need to stay overnight regardless. To make the entire experience as positive as possible we will hold the Swiss rounds on Saturday and announce final standings. Then we will hold the final elimination rounds on Sunday for those who made the cut.

    The schedule is:

Saturday Nov 12th: 8am registration, 9am dials down. Lunch will be provided from 130pm to 2pm. Final rounds of Swiss begin at 2pm, and will wrap up at 7pm.

Sunday Nov 13th: Dials down at 9am. Final Game showdown at high noon, expect to be done with the game and final prizes by 130pm.

Expect great food, drinks, and competition. Outstanding prize support including first crack at the Regionals prizes and a Grand Prize Drawing for all of Wave 9 including "Heroes of the Resistance"!

    $25 Entry Fee

  2. One name missing from the list is Doug Kinnie. He was the first World Champion and creator of the Fly Casual campaign for the game. Great guy all around.

  3.

Regarding the long shows:  I actually like the times you guys can break down a match turn by turn and give your reasoning for what you did.  Yes, it takes forever, but that's what fast-forward is for if you don't like it.

I will say, with respect, that Sean (Shawn?  Shaun? your "resident TO") has a habit of repeating himself and kind of talking in circles.

    [...]

I'd hit the 30 second skip button, and he's start saying the same exact thing he said before.

    [...]

Man, I hope that doesn't come off as me being a jerk--I'm just trying to give a little constructive criticism here.

Yes, very much this.  Sean (or alternate spelling as above  :) ), we love you, man, but ****.  In fact, many of the hosts are guilty of this from time to time.  I've often thought that this show would be under 2 hours if ever a point could be made and then moved on from.

And I too very much hope I'm not coming across as a jerk.  NOVA is by far one of the best-produced gaming podcasts around, and I super appreciate all of your guys' hard work.  I think ya just need more direction/focus, or even editing.

Again, I hope that's taken constructively.  Thanks for all you guys do!

    Josh

I agree. I talk in circles. It is something I will work on. Call it age or fatigue. Thanks for the honest feedback.

  4. I am going to make one final statement on this topic. I have had a conversation with a member of the FFG OP team which was off the record. What I have decided to do personally is to put forth a self imposed ban through this store championship season and through the Regional season. I will not play in any sanctioned FFG X-Wing events again until Worlds. I view this as a fair and equitable response to my actions in 2014. I believe the game stands above one individual and this cannot be compromised. I will still play in smaller store tournaments and local leagues, but I will stay away from official tournaments. I know not all of you know me or about me, but I will hold to my word throughout this self imposed Ban.

    Sincerely,

    Sean Dorcy

  5. I am going to answer this accusation in the only way I can. I was wrong and the rules prove it. unfortunately I used bad judgment in my decision to decide a game with a coin flip. That by definition is collusion. I have no defense for this as I should have known better and actually do know better than to allow this. With my experience as a TO I have no right to think that anything I do is above any other person or player associated with this awesome game. If FFG decides to censure me in any way I will fully accept their decision no matter what it is, and I will in no way dispute it. I am glad someone from the community brought this topic up as it has taught me a lesson in my conduct while playing this great game. One other thing to point out is that whether I did this in 2014 or yesterday, my conduct was deplorable. I want to apologize for my actions to the community that I love, to Organized play for putting my own concerns above the game on that day, and my friends who trust in my judgments when making rulings on this game. I accept FULL responsibility for my actions.

  6. Our last match was a fun one. I thought I did a really good job bottling you up. Just wasn't my day in the end. Congrats on making top 2. It makes me feel good that both my losses were close to some degree with both making top 8 and you making the final. By the way, what was that beeping from?

  7. One of things you can do is be the go to person to build the community. Find a store that will give you the space to play on a certain and start advertising that you are playing Armada on that night. If you only get 1 other person to start, that is a good thing. Then you have a second player to play. The key I found when building the X-Wing community in Omaha Nebraska back in August of 2012 was putting the ships on the table was the greatest attractor for the game. Run some demos and invite onlookers to try it out. You will be fighting the price point on this, but it is what you need to play the game. The key to selling the game is to put the game on the table and have people watch you playing it. If they are interested they will buy into it, and if they choose not to right away, let the use your stuff to play until they are convinced they need to buy their own.

  8. S1N,

Congrats and stepping into the world of the TO. It is not the easiest job for sure, but keep working at it. I run a FB page for TO's all over the world which is available so TO's can ask questions or get help from others in the same boat. Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/238438509681085/. This is a great resource as it has TO's with a lot of experience who can help you out in the future. I personally am stepping away from the TO side of the house after 2 1/2 years to play the game I love. If you ever have questions though you can email me at xwingtoman@aol.com. I will still be available to help TO's through the regional season then will be stepping away completely. Good luck in the future.

    Sean

  10. Two facts that i want to share about this match.

Fact 1: Richard broke formation at 8 minutes and 59 seconds left in the match. On the last turn of the game after time had been called Richard fired shots from Cracken and Wedge and destroyed a ship.

Fact 2: When Richards destroyed his opponents ship he jumped away from the table into the entry way of the bathroom and let out a roar with a fist pump. Richard was given a warning by the judge who was assigned to keep track of the game. Richard immediately said he was sorry quietly and sat back down.

Other than those two facts, Richard revealed his dials which showed he would not be able to move each turn. Joshua on the other hand moved his ships in a way that would not engage Richard's ships in the corner.

  11. I am looking forward to what Wave 5 and 6 will do to the meta and wondering where we will be for Worlds 2015!  Is there a Wave 7 we may see in play by that time? Another Aces-like pack?  Who knows!

It is going to be exciting.  I am hopeful the Regional schedule is kind and I do not have to drive several hours to get to play in one, and with any luck, I can play in more then one!

    I hope so too.

  12. THIS IS NOT OFFICIAL:

This was discussed between myself and FFG representatives while at World's as it was brought to my attention. I will speak for myself that this is a difficult ruling to make as this could have an impact on the game. Accidents do happen, and if it is a one time occurrence then the ruling would be to allow the player to reset his/her dial if they choose to. The offending player would receive a warning that if it happened again they would be given a match loss as a result of the continued action.

There is one thing to think about. If two players are playing the same faction, dials may become mixed up by both players. I have played in over 300 games of X-Wing, observed over 1000 games, and have run 25 tournaments and have never had this issue arise. If this happens you must also look at the circumstance before ruling on this issue.
