My wallet feels like a herd of Jawas ran over it. A big herd.

Do you battle foam guys have pics? I'm curious to see how they handle large collections.
No pics right now, but the 1520XL has about two vertical feet of space for 15"x12" trays. Right now, I have my whole X-Wing collection in it, plus space for at least one more 2.5" tray.

Wave 2 stuff will get here when it gets here. Speculation based on very little information just gets people's underwear in a bunch. I wouldn't expect to see Episode 7 ships in Armada until Wave 3, if not later.
Why post in the Wave 2 speculation thread just to say don't speculate on wave 2?
For the same reason that nuclear reactors have control rods.
DiabloAzul reacted to this -
I have (way) more than enough tokens from the ships that I've already purchased to want more of them. Even if they are official and neat

Battle Foam 1520XL for me, although I've got an older 432 for the overflow.

There seems to be something ungainly about all the original trilogy ships. None of them seem practical or aerodynamic.
Who needs aerodynamic when you have antigrav?
Punning Pundit and Rodafowa reacted to this -
not to sound overly against the OP, but
there is literally no such thing as "newquel"
we're out of OT material, everything's a "newquel" relative to that
(though the raider itself is billed anti-squadron capital ship that was developed post-Endor, when they finally realized "oh wait, FIGHTERS did that to us!?" even though they should've known from Yavin)

Yavin was just a lucky shot.

More likely to have Clone War fleets. There are a several "alien" fleen that could be done as well.
I am also wondering if they will do a "Trek" Armada since Trek fits more with larger ships/fleets than Trek with X-Wing.
No, FFG has stated on several occasions that they are focusing on the OT era.
DerErlkoenig reacted to this -
At some point they probably will. I expect that it probably won't be until after Wave 4, though.

That's great that your group plays like that, but actual fleet construction is very clear on the matter. If FFG intended that you must run Squadrons, they would have the rules say that. They may alter those rules at a later time, but as presented they unequivocally do not in any way force you to take Squadrons. As such unless you think FFG is completely unaware of what thier rules say you can not conclude that it is FFGs intent that Fleets include Squadrons. If it were the rules would say as such, and until they do you can not assert that is FFGS intent (given that the rules are clear on the subject).
Thanks ScottieATF.
Your opinion is understandable.
BTW- Were there any Star Wars battles in which capital ships fought without squadrons?
I can't seem to find a single one.
If you know of any, please post the link.
Thank you sir.
Well, the sample size is very small, though. There are only three 'fleet' battles in the OT: The opening scene in ANH, the escape from Hoth in ESB, and the Battle of Endor in ROTJ. There were only two ships involved in ANH, and fighters were only marginally involved in ESB. Thus, most of what is being argued is on the basis of one battle, which is hardly definitive either way.

I do think the Rebels should be able to field all fighters because that's they way they operate. rebs jump in hit and run and jump out. Or Ties are bought as part of their mothership So points for a VSD would be VSD+ 3 TIEs =??? and they have to launch from the VSD on turn 1. I know that is almost like rewriting the rules but It would feel more like star wars. My 2 cents as an old fogey, now get off my lawn.
Joe
If you want all fighters, FFG already has a game for that. The TIEs are all launched on Round 0 (or before), so why wait until Round 1?
-
Thus why the winners of nationals put those things away like a concussion missile from X-wing miniatures. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the top 4 squadron-less lists?
Sure Armada might be capital ships with fighters but all the space battle scenes in Star Wars the original trilogy were Star Fighters with capital ships save for the first scene but that was a little unfair. The capital ships can still fight but they also launched fighters and the fighters could do some serious damage. It was a squadron of A-wings that dealt the deathblow to the executor after all.
So this is the BIG problem with Star Wars Armada miniatures, I am not getting the Star Wars vibe from the mechanics. Instead I can only look at Armada like a Star Trek miniatures game in the parts of the theme that is supported by its game play mechanics. Now that being said Armada is a way better Star Trek miniatures game than Star Trek Attack Wing but it clearly isn't the better Star Wars game when it comes to Star Wars space combat.
You mean all one of them? There were no capital ships in the battle at the end of ANH. ESB was nearly all capital ships (the fighters were only there as escorts). That leaves ROTJ. And, as Lyraeus said, the second-place finisher had squadrons.

Hi, as you could see on GenCon the Squadrons that should be an important part of this game are not being used and I think that is cause the actual rules. Their limitation of move or shoot make that they completly depend of Capital ships and if your opponent play more capital ships and focus yours you will end with all your squadrons running after the capital ships and doing no real damage.
To avoid this kind of situation and to make the squadrons become more playable I want to give some idea that could work and will fix this avoiding to buff too much the squadrons.
My idea is that the squadrons make some kind of "engage" to capital ships too, but far different from squadrons "engage":
- If an squadron is on distance 1 from any enemy capital ship AND is NOT engaged with enemy squadrons can "follow" this capital ship.
- With "follow" you can make what you want, but the important is to give some "free" movement to follow the enemy capital ships once they engaged them. For me the ideal movement will be that the squadrons move maintaining their actual position respectively to the capital ship (if they were on the back of the capital ship before it move they should stay after capital movement on its back, if they were in front they stay in front...)
This could make that people start to use them more.
Armada is a game of capital ships with fighters, not fighters with capital ships. Squadrons will always be secondary, and the fact that you can make forces without them is a feature, not a bug.

@DarthSidious
-Yeah, I understand. That's why I'm suggesting it here: I've had more fun with "Deathmatch" fights than anything. Even if I'm losing, it's fun to make a good account of myself and take as many enemies down with me as I can. Of course, you could always concede the match at some point or another, simulating retreat or surrender.
Sure. I guess if you're looking to do missions or campaigns, though, you may want to consider a 'forced retreat' mechanic.

Nothing is preventing you from fighting to the death, unless you're in a tournament situation. Although in real life, few forces fight to the death.

He pulled off some pretty fancy flying, dodging arcs doing tricks. Kenobi just had crazy good green dice.
The younger Fett also would have had much more time to hone his skills with his ship than his father. He was comfortable with the controls before puberty.
Well, the Force was with Kenobi, after all.

The bottom of the EU barrel is still higher than the pit that is cartoon and sequel ships~
RIP in pieces:

You realize that second ship is showing up in Armada's Wave 2, right? It seems awfully likely that it will end up in X-Wing, too.
-
Wave 2 has probably been delayed due to the same reason as X-wing wave 8 - Episode 7 stuff they cannot speak of, which is "on the water" Now I don't know if that means on the boat (if it does then we might see stuff as early as Sept with the rest of Episode 7 toy reveals) which would be awesome.
Unlikely. Wave 2 was announced four months ago. It just went to the printer maybe a month ago. I believe FFG also mentioned that they had some issues at the printer that they couldn't get into the details with. That seems to be a much more likely scenario.

Hello
I agree the new large ships look beautiful, but then I think how will we manage theese large ships in play.
They are just to big to play on a normal play mat. Soon everybody are playing this game on the floor, because there are no tables big enough.
So my question for all in the forum is:
Do you think the chosen scale is wrong. Should FFG started with a lover scale so we would see more larger ships in play. ???
I feel the same with X-wing as bigger and bigger ships come into play it makes it difficult to play the game.
What is your thought about this.????
Maybe you shouldn't panic until Wave 2 comes out.

Nott the 1st time that FFG has left somber cries of dismay and it will nott be the last...Wave 2 was just a glimmer so that all eyes would be on X-Wings new wave and the long awaited Gozanti-class_cruiser...I can wait till X-Mas if need be to get Wave 2...By then the next wave will be envisioned and the trauma will start all over again...
One thing that the X-Wing Gozanti opens up is the possibility of it being an Imperial small ship in Wave 3+.
I think it fits more a squadron than small ship.
Given the huge X-Wing == small Armada correlation with the CR90 and the Raider, I think that FFG probably would disagree with that sentiment.
