  1. You are correct that most spend all of their starting xp on characteristics and many spend duty to increase xp at character creation to increase them even more.  Character creation is the only easy way to raise a characteristic in this game.  Most talent trees have a dedicated talent at the bottom of the tree taking a minimum of 75xp to increase a characteristic. You will get  a few bonuses along the way but it is going to take some time.

Most people agree that this game rewards a well rounded character (this depends on your GM).  I also come from a Pathfinder background and understand this goes counter to everything you learned in the d20 systems.

  2. If you're working towards face skills you might consider putting your dedication into presence.  Increasing your cunning will give you a small advantage on streetwise, deception and a few other nice skills.  Adding this dedication to presence will increase skills such as charm, negotiation, ect . . .

Adding one green dice to 4 other positive dice is a help but not as big of a help as adding one green dice to 3 positive dice.  Unfortunately, I am not aware of any ways to use credits to enhance your characters social skills other than what you have mentioned.

  3. Yoshiyahu, I agree if it is being used as a plot device by the GM.  The thing is no one on this thread is talking about it being used by a GM as a plot device they are all talking about using it as a PC.

As to the point of this not being D&D you are correct, however munchkins exist in all games.  Don't believe me?  Do a forum search for marauder and soak or jury rig and auto fire. I am certain there are others but these are the ones I know of off the top of my head.

PS - I have rewritten this a couple times attempting to have a non confrontational tone.

  4. Thanks for the extra info.  I have been involved in a similar situation.  My personality at the table is often strong and hard to go against.  In previous gaming groups I played with other people who were as strong willed as I am and we had lots of fun with it.  I am currently in a group with smaller egos and in the beginning there were some clashes.

The solution you want is not an in game solution.  Your best bet at a full resolution is talk respectfully about it at the table.  Maybe even give the person who played the droid leader a heads up about what is happening so he/she does not feel blind sided.  Be clear but kind in letting him know how his decisions are making others feel.  Then work together as a group towards an out of game solution.

In my situation it was not and is not easy for me to back down my personality and from time to time I need to be reminded of it.

  5. The mini gun in the live action video fires about 80 to 100 rounds of 7.62x51 (also known as a 308) per second.  The cheapest I was able to find 308 rounds online was $679 per 1k (can get a little cheaper if you purchase steel cased rounds).  He fired for about a minute straight so about 6k rounds or $3800 of ammo not counting the links to put them together or the labor to link them.  So maybe I was wrong in my first assessment but still $4k to shoot for a little over a minute? He has a better job than I do.  I am a bit jealous though.

This assumes I IDed the gun correctly, however it looks to me like an M134.

  6. If there are any questions about "solid repairs" and what it says it has a full description on page 143 of the CRB.  If all you want is the short answer cvtheoman is correct there are no restrictions on when the repairs can be done.

My reading of this talent is that the original poster is mostly correct in his cost assumptions.

  7. The beta of FaD is out and purchasable.  It sounds to me like you really want to play a force user of some kind.  If this is the case I would suggest that you buy the beta book and run with your force using character from the start.  There will be some minor changes through the beta process and a few more minor changes when FaD ships.  However they should not significantly change your character.

  8. If you're blowing up star ships you are using way to much explosive or the wrong kind.  If you do 30 damage that will not even leave a scratch on a most war ships let alone the personal ship of one of the richest most powerful underworld agents in the known galaxy (aka a high ranking member of the Black Suns).  What kind of explosives are you using that are able to take out high end star ships?
