player1399050 reacted to Volkren in Content Roadmap / Expansion Value
I think Boxed Expansions give too many things to RtL that they are worth the cost, and I’m not saying the stuff the "Collection" info panel shows you (side quest, items, etc.). I’m talking about “Monster Activations” and “Perils” too.
For example, if you get the Lair of the Wyrm expansion (besides having more heroes, classes, items, monsters, conditions, etc) now you have a peril in which Fire Imps will appear from nowhere. Additionally, your Elementals (or any fire-like creature...Merrick *coff* *coff*) receive more activations in which they use the Burn condition (you know, because it is logical that an attack from a fire creature would leave you burning). Or, if you buy the Shadow of Nerekhall expansion, you could see some monsters that deal pierce will also do Bleed your heroes.
I mean, I think they are worth the cost, not only because it increases RtL replayability, but also, because as Cotgrave said, you could some time return and try playing the traditional aspect of this game with the new campaigns and their mechanics (believe me that with more expansions that “unbalance” feeling is lost).
Anyway, if that doesn’t convince you, I think the order of purchase will be:
1) Lair of the Wyrm: Why this specific expansion above all the rest? Well, as I mentioned, expansions add more than the “normal” content to this App, but, specifically this expansion will add a great change to the Kindred Fire campaign. As I mentioned, any fire creature receives a nice monster activation set that fits thematically with the lore of the campaign. Now the next problem is that between the base game and LotW there aren’t too many fire creatures (just Elementals, Fire Imps and Merrick hahahaha). But you can solve that with buying more H&M Collections
2) Big Box Expansion: Either Labyrinth of Ruin or Shadow of Nerekhall. Because of what I said before, but also because, it adds too many things: items, monsters, relics, classes, etc. that the replayability of the unique campaign makes it worth the cost.
3) H&M Collections: I think they are better than a small expansion because the monster diversity in RtL is more used and fun than some items and a side quest from a small expansion.
4) Small Expansion: well, as I said, it would be good to have more items, classes and the condition, but I might not consider worth the cost if you have low budget for the game. H&M collections give more diversity to the APP.
5) Lieutenant packs: I consider that if you don’t have any plan on playing the traditional game, don’t even consider buying this packs. The probability for an agent to appear during a quest is really low, and if they appear, it’s because you are already losing the quest anyway. You don’t get the feeling of a real fight against an honorable foe.
One last thing. If you are still unsure of what you will get and you are not afraid of spoilers , you can add everything in the collection and fake a play through to see what it feels like with new with monsters, activations, perils, etc. Then, the next time you play with your friends, they will be like “wow, that’s new, I didn’t know that monsters could do that”.

player1399050 reacted to CBMarkham in Epic List - Gozanti + Bombers
You don't have to say, "for fun". If you know people who are playing X-Wing for other reasons, they're doing it wrong.
That list is not too shabby, but I might do it a hair different:
300 EPIC
Gozanti-class Cruiser (40)
Darth Vader (3) Mara Jade (3) Dual Laser Turret (5) Docking Clamps (0) Comms Booster (4) Optimized Generators (5) Vector (2) Gamma Squadron Veteran (19) (x2) Deadeye (1) Extra Munitions (2) Proton Rockets (3) Homing Missiles (5) Guidance Chips (0) Gamma Squadron Veteran (19) (x2) Deadeye (1) Plasma Torpedoes (3) Extra Munitions (2) Proton Rockets (3) Assault Missiles (5) Guidance Chips (0) Omicron Group Pilot (21) (x2) Electronic Baffle (1) Heavy Laser Cannon (7) Engine Upgrade (4) "Whisper" (32) Predator (3) Sensor Jammer (4) Recon Specialist (3) Advanced Cloaking Device (4) Total: 300 So now you've got 4 Bombers (as you'd intended) who each have 4 attack dice at Range 2-3 AND at Range 1 (thanks to the Prockets). Using Homing Missiles or PRockets means you have a focus modifier and a g-chip modifier for each attack, which is real solid. There's also a second set of bombers that downgrades Homing Missiles to Plasma Torps in order to fit in some Assault Missiles. Having two ships equipped with Assault Missiles on your Gozanti will have a dramatic impact on how your opponent flies his ships, even if you never fire them. The threat of activation will make any kind of formation flying an impossibility. Since you're focusing on Bombers who have Deadeye, I'd think you'd want your Gozanti to have Comms Booster. This will allow your Bombers who have to fire Plasma Torps or Assault Missiles to gain a bonus focus token so that they end up with one to fire the weapon and one to modify. It also allows your Bombers to K-Turn in later rounds, then still fire ordnance while simultaneously clearing stress with the Comm Boost assist. It's a perfect fit for a bomber list. Mara Jade and Vader make the Gozanti a threat rather than just a nuisance even after the Bombers are launched. The extra energy gain (and capacity, thanks to the Vector title) mean that you'll have plenty to Comms Boost with, and still some to regenerate shields, if the opponent is foolish enough to let the Gozanti survive by prioritizing bombers instead. I tweaked the Lambda Shuttles slightly to favor mobility, since they're notorious for being dead weight after an initial joust. Those engines combined with the Bafflers will help their HLCs to stay on target. Whisper is mostly unchanged, except that I saw no reason not to use Recon Specialist over Agent Kallus. For one point more, why not have an extra focus token effect versus ANY one enemy rather than against a single enemy? I don't mind Predator, since your enemy will have enough targets that FCS is likely to do little work, but any enemy ship with a PS of 8 or higher is going to be a huge threat to Whisper, so make sure you let her hang back in round 1 and have her swing in after the rest of your team has prioritized the destruction of those high PS targets, at which point her cloak and extra focus tokens can help keep her in the game. Also, it goes without saying that Whisper should flank, so that if the enemy wants to point at her they'll have to do so at the cost of not being pointed at the rest of your team. Anyway, this is my take on your list, but the main thing is to have a good time. Me? I'd have a better time if Assault Missiles were lighting up my enemy's side of the battle field like a Roman candle. Good times, indeed. -

We're not done crying over U-boats and Palp Aces yet. You can't barge in here and start a Defender scare. It's too soon. Wait until after regionals, ok?

player1399050 reacted to StephenEsven in TLT - 3 attacks in a row (via Ghost and/or BTL-A4, Y-wing)
No you only get one of the TLT attacks at the end of the combat phase with the Ghost, as it states you can't make any further attacks that round after performing the attack.

player1399050 reacted to sayers635 in The best tabletop dungeon crawler now solo friendly
I have been playing both sides of the base game as best I could, craving this...watched boardgames AI systems evolve with if/then in other games but loved this box of goodies. Now finally my time has come. My game has come. I was considering trying to make it just so I could play it lol. But I'm no gamemaker. These guys are the best. An expensive line but top quality by top minds in the business. Worth every penny to be able to play it all and support this team in order to have the privilege to play the best that's out there while keeping these brilliant game makers profiting. Who knows what they will give us next? Thank you Fantasy Flight games. Let's play people!

player1399050 got a reaction from CorranHornfan in X-EPIC & THEMATIC PLAY = Gaming Scenes From The Films?
I ran a two table, epic scenario the other month. Not specifically from the movies, but inspired by the book "Lords of the Sith".
Imperials had blockaded Ryloth and the rebels were trying to run the blockade. We had three extra rebel transports "Full of supplies" and at least 2 had to make it through for Rebels to win. In my game, the transport killed more of the Imperials via running them over then the rebels did!

Just to be clear, this EPT wouldn't work under the golden rule above... can't trumps can.

player1399050 reacted to JasonCole in Maarek plus TFA Damage deck interactions:
You could argue that Maarek's ability that chose the damage card that caused the cascading damage was part of his attack, actually, as it was his ability that specifically directed that card, ergo the damage from that card is a direct result of Maarek selecting it, thus making it part of the attack. And that's if you ignore the obvious parts of the rules that already show us that it's part of the attack.
Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it isn't true.
-
player1399050 reacted to Jehan Menasis in Maarek plus TFA Damage deck interactions:
The rules says so. Critical hits (and effects) from the attack are resolved immediately, under the very own "dealing damage step" of the very same attack, which makes all damage part of the same attack.
What you are trying to imply, however, is that during an attack there's 2 different sources of damage, the attacker, and the critical hits, as if the latter were a different entity than the attacker, or were not part of the same attack, or more precisely, the same 'dealing damage step', since you will be dealing damage two times, once for the 'attack', and another one for the 'critical hits that generate damage'.

player1399050 reacted to Jehan Menasis in Maarek plus TFA Damage deck interactions:
Wrong. Read again carefully 'Major Explosion' and you'll realize why you are wrong.
Also, Plasma Torpedoes have nothing to do with the topic, since they remove tokens (a shield token). It has nothing to do with suffering damage or dealing cards.

player1399050 reacted to StevenO in Lando + Recon Specialist + Experimental Interface
You spend an Action to Focus and that allows Experimental Interface to trigger allowing you to take the "Lando" Action. If you had PtL you could do things in the opposite order.
Note that the "Lando Action" may give you Focus tokens but it gains no benefit from Recon Specialist. Some may think that Recon Specialist would give you extra Focus Tokens when you gain them by taking the "Lando Action" because you are gaining Focus tokens and spending an Action but RS ONLY works when you actually take the Focus Action. I'm just adding this to be complete; it doesn't look like there is anything utilizing that error here.

player1399050 reacted to Vorpal Sword in Why do you need a Modified Win Designation with MOV?
The answer is that modified wins are a holdover from the original X-wing tournament rules, and don't any real function when MOV is the first tiebreaker, rather than strength of schedule.

player1399050 reacted to thespaceinvader in Zuckuss Crew Timing
The rerolls would happen during the 'attacker modifies defence dice' step, which is before the defender does.
I.e. the attack sequence is thus:
Attack rolls attack
- Defender modifies attack dice (e.g. Sensor Jammer)
- Attacker modifies attack dice (e.g. Target Lock, offensive Focus)
Defender rolls defence
- Attacker modifies defence dice (e.g. Juke, Zuckuss)
- Defender modifies defence dice (e.g. Evade tokens, defensive focus)
Compare results
Deal damage.
Zuckuss is strong, sure, but one stress per die is a HUGE cost.

player1399050 got a reaction from Vorpal Sword in Kanan crew range measuring
You measure after the friendly ship executes a maneuver.
A stressed ship executes a maneuver that brings it within range 1-2 of the ship Kanan is on. You do the white maneuver, remove a stress, perform an action if now unstressed.

player1399050 got a reaction from Dr Zoidberg in Using Tie Fighter models as Tie/fo and vice versa ...
If your dog destroyed your TIE fighter expansion, then you don't have a TIE fighter expansion anymore... do you?
Yes, Z-95's can swing both ways... so can Y-Wings. You can use either for Rebels or Scum. They are the same ship, have the same dial, stats and model... they are just painted differently. You do need to use the correct cards and base-inserts for the pilot you are taking though.
A TIE and TIE/fo are different ships. They have different dials. They have different stats. They have different models. You can paint one like the other, but that will not turn one into another.
Fluff wise, I get it. If you want to on your table at your home, fine. Just don't bring it to my tourney or I will ask you to change your models or your list.
