  1. I don't play competitively so this "scouting" thing is very new to me. I didn't even know it was a thing, let alone something that people had strong feelings about. I would think though that if someone can gain a strong advantage from watching one of your games, maybe you're playing too rigidly? Am I wrong?
  2. Totally get what you're saying and agree...but "range" in X-Wing has nothing to do with real measured distances, only what is actually measured by the range ruler. So if you're touching your target you are in range 1 not because you are at a distance of 0mm, but because range 1 of the range ruler overlaps your target. Check out the "Range Ruler" box on page 9 of the rulebook and the "Range" section on page 10.
  3. This part I don't really agree with. According to the rules, the "range" measurement is the distance between two ships: It also states that range is measured by placing the range ruler so that it touches the closest point of one base and that it needs to be pointed towards the other base. Can't really do that with one ship.
  4. This is...actually a really good idea and the best Advanced fix I've seen to date. I've really got to try this out tonight and see how it works.
  5. Yikes! I didn't think of it blocking my own attacks too. That's good to know.
  6. I was thinking a lot about the Tantive lately. It costs a lot of points and if you are using it offensively, it's defense isn't that great. Any defensive actions you take with it really limits it's offense. That got me thinking, what if you used the Transport as a Pseudo-Biggs? Take a transport with the Bright Hope title and an EM Emitter and fly them parallel to each other keeping the transport between the enemy and the Tantive. As the bases are the same size, it should be pretty easy to cover the Tantive, giving the Tantive 3 evade dice at all times. The Tantive can then put all it's energy into its guns. The enemy then only has a few options: It can try to flank where it would have to split their forces (the shuttle can easily move faster or slower to cover the front or rear of the Tantive). It can attack the Tantive which now has 3 defense dice. It can attack the easier to destroy transport. Would this work? Did I read the rules wrong?
  7. And some people want scale Star Destroyers . . . Anyway, I got my CR90! I'm anxious to use it in battle against those Imperial oppressors! The Tantive looks so good that I would LOVE a scale Star Destroyer to go with it. Who cares if it would take up a good portion of my living room. I could turn it into a couch for when I'm not using it for gaming.
  8. The plastic for the Tantive seems especially flimsy. I have no idea how I'm going to store this thing. It's made worse by how off-balance the model is combined with the turret on the bottom.
  9. On a somewhat related note, has anyone had any ideas of how to transport this thing? I mean, this thing is as big as my forearm, is weighted towards the back and the plastic it comes in is kind of flimsy. The turret on the bottom also makes packing it more difficult. So...any ideas?
  10. Obviously there is only one way to solve this issue. We shall remove dice from the game and elect an X-Wing Randomization High Tribunal. Whenever you need to make a roll in X-Wing, you shall mail a missive to the High Tribunal. They shall review your case and determine what your roll shall be. A representative of the High Tribunal will be dispatched to your game to give you the High Tribunal's results. Problem solved.
  11. Whether the current state of blocking was intentional or not, the game would be much poorer if blocking did not exist. I for one welcome our blocking overlords.
  12. I don't know what it is about the St. Louis area, but I've been really having a hard time finding people to play. Couldn't get my friends into it. They either thought it was too expensive, would rather play RPGs or would rather play Battletech. I live in St. Charles, where there doesn't seem to be an X-wing presence at all. I may have to try and start demoing games places...
  13. So... if I were to roll 100% crits and evades... you'd be fine with because, hey, fun! If someone cheats - or attempts to cheat in any way, they should be kicked out. They're ruining the fun for everyone else. Regardless of the rolling method, I doubt anyone could roll 100% crits and evades. Also, unless you happen to be playing in a casino in Vegas, I doubt you'd be able to prove that someone was cheating with their rolling anyway. I think the amount of people who do have mysterious rolling techniques and CAN roll really well (still not 100% though) are so few in number that statistically I would never run into one. And even if I did, I would just chalk it up to them having an incredibly lucky game. So, chances are...it would never happen. But if it did, they better do some **** good magic tricks.
  14. If my opponent can perform some cool magic tricks while doing his wacky rolling, he can roll any way he wants to. I play this game for entertainment purposes after-all.
  15. Thankfully for me, MM is my local store. So I just swing by and pick it up.
  16. I kinda don't see the big deal about measuring asteroids. The only thing that would bother me is if they took a long time doing it. I personally try to place them in a way that will support how I plan to play that round, but I don't set up have a specific setup that I would use with my squad. To me, that would just make me too inflexible. I mean, if I saw someone meticulously measuring their asteroid placement, that tells me that they have their first moves planned out exactly and they've practiced that setup over and over again. I know then that if I do something totally crazy and unexpected, it would probably mess up their carefully laid plans and throw them off a bit. I personally practice with random asteroid placement and just try to get my ships through without hitting anything. After all, at the end of the day you only get to place 3 asteroids and I would rather have excellent spacial awareness instead of some set-in-stone opening move plan.
  17. I think it would be a benefit to swarms. Much easier to fly around that thing than 3 scattered asteroids.
  18. The thing I like about Tactician is it requires your enemy to make a choice, each one of them bad: They can stay at range 3 of you, where you will get an extra defense die. They can stay at range 2, where you will stress them when you shoot. They can stay at range 1, where you'll get an extra attack die against them. Not too shabby for a 2 point card.
  19. I think the whole point of it is for those situations where you are just target-locking and not TL + F your ordnance. So you can try to get a quick shot off and not lose your payload if you miss. Personally I would only use it if I didn't have an action-stacking build AND I wasn't running Jonus.
  20. If it starts with 0 stress, yes. If the ships starts with 1 stress, you only give it an additional 1. If the ship starts with 2 or more stress, you don't give it any.
  21. This thread just made me think of a wacky, hypothetical situation. Okay, you know how dice aren't uniform in shape due to how they are made? (thrown into a rock tumbler a couple of times, etc) Because of this each die should be weighted slightly differently from the others due to each side not being totally uniform in length. What if someone got 10k packs of dice did one million test rolls and came up with a set that rolled crits and evades much higher than average? I have no idea where I'm going with this, I just wish that someone, somewhere would do it. It would amuse me to see the process in action.
  22. Thank you for all the advice. So White Out is good enough? No need for specialty paints?
  23. Just to get slightly off topic, yes, the Y-Wings should have easily gotten a shot off at some point. Sure the A-Wings have a 5 straight plus boost, but they have to turn sometime which would have given the Y-Wings ample opportunity to get in range. The fact that the A-Wing player was able to avoid him for 6-7 turns means we probably don't have the full story. It would be interesting to see a play-by-play to see what the Y-Wing player was actually doing. Based on the one account we have and our knowledge of X-Wing mechanics we can only assume that the Y-Wing player was quite inexperienced. Otherwise, how could he have not gotten a shot off? So, it probably had nothing to do with the Y-Wing player not wanting to win enough. It being a tournament, we have to assume he did want to win. He was probably inexperienced and just trying the best he could. Anyway, let's be nice to this nameless Y-Wing player. The OP said he was gracious enough and he would probably feel bad coming to this forum and seeing a 21 page thread where people are saying mean things about him. That last point wasn't directed at you, Papamambo. I've noticed a lot of people in this thread have called him a jerk, a ragequitter, stupid, etc.
  24. A few days ago I ordered a bunch of tokens from Applied Perspective: http://www.appliedperspective.com/acrylic/product-category/x-wing/ I noticed that a lot of people paint their tokens. For those that did, what kind of paint/brushes would you recommend? I'm quite new to painting, so any advice would be much appreciated.
  25. Yeah... Starting to think we're dealing with a sock puppet account here... Because you're no more able to back up your statements then some of the others who posted here saying pretty much the same thing you are now. VanorDM, as a fellow respected member of this forum I think it's time I quote Mark Twain, we listen to his wise words, and then move on: "Never argue with stupid people, they will only drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." We've made our points, they are well defended and go unchallenged. Time to move on. Fly Casual I guess I will leave this "gracious and helpful community" to the "respected members of this forum" and they can go pat themselves on the back for getting rid of another "obviously stupid" person. Enjoy your "well defended" and "unchallenged" points as you beat down everyone who disagrees with you. Fly Casual indeed.
