  1. I don't really have any horrors as of yet to tell.

Most of my games have been real casual. Im lucky to have local people that aren't all cut throat.

I really dont care too much whether I win or not cause I'm having too much fun flying into asteroids and satellites and turbo lasers and ships and any other **** thing you can put on the board !!.

    So yes ! I ABSOLUTELY SUCK !!

BUT , I could care less. Its just a game and my mother gave me enough smooches and hugs when I was little to overcome my pilot deficiency.

  2. One of the things I think we can all agree on: when the casual gamer walks by and sees this really cool game being played one of the first things they can identify with is an iconic ship such as the Falcon.

In that respect, I think it is fine to use it in maybe a beginner game with an added x wing In order to get them hooked.

After all we want them to buy into this game and spend their money on ships and mats, not buying yucky expensive jewelry or paying the bills.

But some where along the line (maybe during the second or third demo game) it would probably help to let them know that not all ships have turrets and perhaps show them other ships or demo just the starter contents.

The falcon sitting on a table off to the side does get alot of conversation started, I use it to pique their curiosity.

Then I get them hooked......and send them up to the counter at my LGS and watch their credit card melt .

  3. I have been told that Y wings are harder to fly, that's why the turret is highly suggested.

I think the key word here is "crutch". Some folks like to look for an "I win" button, or they use turrets to take one less

Equation out of the game thus kind of creating a peusdo auto pilot for thier lists.

Now don't get me wrong, I love me some Falcon action it was one of the first ships I got and flew well.

But I kind of had a harder time of things when my A wings arrived and I wanted to go into different lists.

This is what got me to wondering what this kind of info does for other beginners.

  4. Before I gave up my rent money last month to buy this game (I joke)

I did quite a bit of research on what ships to buy first, what is good for beginners etc.

One of the recurring suggestions that was put forth was "buy a yt-1300" they a re a good ship for beginning players due to their 360 arc of fire.

Also suggested were the Y-wing's with ion turret.

Now I can see the merit of this, and I agree that its mostly good advice. Some new people might have a hard time with the whole "line em up in your sights" approach that most of the other ships use.

However, this got me to thinking : is this really the best way to get people introduced to the game?

I ask this because in my opinion after you get used to having the freedom to shoot whomever the hell you want, it sometimes frustrates people when they switch to the more complex ships and have to really start relying on their actual ability to pilot their ship and thus. ... The training wheels are off.

So what do the rest of you all think?

Should we continue to suggest the 360 line of fire as a good beginning, or should we maybe examine our teaching credentials and perhaps go with another de-facto ship as the best beginner.

There is obviously pros and cons to this topic, I could list a metric crap ton of them, but I was trying to keep it from becoming a wall of BOOORRRING text ...zzzzzzz

  5. I've seen this. It's nice.

But, for 250.00 I can get a crap ton of different mats and have money still left over for

Asteroids from GF9 and take my wife out to eat as well.

Still.....I bet this thing would look cool as hell on a table with plenty of ships under a black light and some of those laser turrets wired up with red lights.

  6. Wow! I go to bed and wake up to find other people in the same boat. Lol. (Yea, I sleep 3 hours and keep weird time schedules)

I'm so glad I picked this up.yes, half the fun is flying the ships around the basement and making noises.

My first foray into GW was actually war of the ring. Got 3 armies for that. Next it was 40k and then tomb kings and wood elves.

I actually enjoy building more than painting. The fantasy has to go to make more room, but the rest can just stay packed up.

Im really looking forward to comparing notes with you all on this forum and learning to be better at this game, ill be asking questions soon so just bear with me.

  7. 3 weeks ago I was all set. The paint was ready, brushes are primed and all I had to do was finish

    1 rhino

    1 storm raven

And 12 little space marines. That was it. Finally a two year Crimson fist project would be at its end.

Then out of the blue (no pun intended) I just had to click on a banner add on tabletop gaming news.

300.00 later and I still feel that I dont have enough ships.

I'm having more fun than I ever did with 40k. Oh and those Marines still are not done.

This game is a total time suck. I love it. This happen to any one else ?
