  1. Let's be honest, sometimes balance sucks. Qui-Gon should have thought, "Hmm, there are millions of Jedi and no Sith as far as I know, why would I want to balance those numbers?" And Anakin did bring balance. After his death, according to movie cannon there were no Jedi and no Sith (noting that Luke had hardly completed Jedi training by that point). If someone walks into your sauna and starts talking about how they're going to balance the temperature, kick them out -- a sauna is working the way its supposed to when it's really hot.
  2. Not to mention the bit where Corran Horn is talking to Jabba the Hutt in the book I, Jedi, and they're reminiscing about the fights they had before Jabba got so fat. Corran remembers Jabba beating people off with his fists, rolling around to squish people that had tried to jump on his back to attack him, etc.
  3. Oh, ok, good to know. Then perhaps it would be the Predators who take Aliens and transplant them into the Fremen.
  4. There's a Hutt adversary, but not a species. Why, does someone in your group want to play a Hutt? Of course, who wouldn't want to play a Hutt?
  5. Wasn't there a Hutt species choice a while ago? Was it removed or was that my imagination talking?
  6. Because the Republic didn't want to let the Separatists split off, and since the Jedi aren't part of the Republic government they didn't really get a vote. The Separatists were basically like the Irish Separatists, and you can see how well that went in Northern Ireland.
  7. "On a primitive jungle planet, the Predators introduce Alien eggs to infect the tall and strong natives, the Na'vis." Why would they do that? They don't get Na'vi/Alien hybrids, they either get the Aliens that they already fight or they get Na'vis. It seems like the Predators would fight Aliens on the planets where Aliens already are, or they would fight Na'vis on the planets where Na'vi already are. "Rather than accept defeat however, the Empire mining operation is moved to a nearby desert planet. Ruling the inhabitants with the usual iron fist, the Empire soon finds itself on the receiving end of Fremen attacks. Such is the ferocity of the attacks, which soon become coordinated as if led by a single individual rather than being random tribal attacks, that the Empire garrison is worn away to nothing." I don't think this would be possible. The spacing guild was the only group with the ability to take a ship out into actual space and the Fremen in Dune bribed the spacing guild to mess up the satellites and otherwise not let anyone take a really close look at what was happening on Dune. The Empire has enough ships that they can orbit the planet, and if they see a giant worm with people on its back they just drop some ordinance from orbit and bomb the crud out of everything. Put a few heat tiles around a ton of iron and you can be sure that it won't get burned away as it falls from orbit, it'll be really cheap, and when it hits the ground it'll deliver the same kinetic energy as a nuclear explosion, so you don't even have to be very good with your targetting. In this world, the Empire is basically the spacing guild and the Harkonnen all at the same time, so normal Fremen tactics, where they cheated and bribed their way to success, won't necessarily work as well, because they can't play multiple sides against each other. So Paul Mua'dib is a Vulcan Force Sensitive now. That's great, but so what? That doesn't mean he can magically protect a whole planet from orbital bombardment. The Empire has the resources to watch the planet from the skies and shoot things down from a distance. The Fremen may get a weirding module, but stormtroopers have blasters, and better body armor, and the only time the stormtroopers in the movies were lousy shots was when their bosses ordered them to let the Princess escape, so that they could follow her to the Rebel base. "After surviving an Alien in the chest, and witnessing the Aliens own fierce nature, the VIP decides to introduce the Aliens to the planet." Why? There's this dangerous parasitic alien creature on planet X, so he's going to introduce it to planet Y because...? If he can't get rid of the Fremen himself (which, see above, shouldn't be the case), why would adding even more dangerous creatures make the situation better, how does he plan on protecting his people from the newly-introduced Aliens on the desert planet? "Naturally a group of hunters who can fight through Na'vis, deadly wildlife and Aliens will attract the attention of the Predators." This totally makes sense, namely the PC's fighting Predators -- run with it, it's a great idea.
  8. I would presume it's like illegal immigrants and the social security system here in the US. You get your social security number, and you have a name. This information, and a few other bits, is saved in the social security system. When you go get a job, you have to give your name and social security number. These may be transferred to a state or national office for verification (in California you have to file a DE34 with the state for each new hire). You can also register to be able to go online to verify name/number. Usually, the common practice is to get a name/number from someone else who no longer needs it -- they died, or they're too young to be working yet or something. As long as only one person uses a name/number, it's no big deal -- people change jobs, they move to different states, the United States can't possibly track everyone. The problem comes when your name doesn't match your number, or "you" appear to be working in multiple states at once. Working in the same location, probably not a problem -- sometimes people have multiple jobs. Working in different states at the same time? That's a problem. This is probably how it works for transponders. Starports and space stations or whatever get their updates (and with trillions of ships flying around the speed of updates probably varies correspondingly with your distance from the Core), they check the name/ID and if everything matches then nobody cares. Of course once the ship lands, you can see which ship it "really" is. This is probably how Han Solo became known among certain people -- you might see that the ship is not who its transponder says it is, but unless you have a grudge there's no reason to go alert the authorities -- that other ship's captain might report you if you started the reporting. If there is a name/ID mismatch, or if the same transponder is flying around the galaxy in multiple places at the same time, it probably takes some time for the authorities in central wherever to notice and respond. I mean, anyone can use someone else's name/social security number. How do you verify that a person is who they say they are? You can't, really, since there isn't a universal fingerprint/retina scan saved for every person. You just sort of have to take it on trust.
  9. Ah, criminy. I had to remove the reference to the database and add it again, which then reset the interface DLL back to being a prerequisite (which is why it yelled at you). I have to, yet again, turn that off. Anyway, I re-published the install, so you should be good to go. DropBox says it has a minute to go, so give it 5 Oh, and this only applies to the web install, not the manual install. I opened up the program and it said, "Hey, you don't have the latest program, do you want to download it?" I said yes, and it did, then it popped up with that error. I downloaded a new Web Install and when I ran setup.exe it verified application requirements then popped up with the same error, "Application cannot be started. Contact the application vendor." It doesn't give me the option of installing into a different directory. Edit: Details... 10. Doesn't that contradict the FAQ/errata document? Q. Presuming a minion group of 3 stormtroopers, with a wound threshold of 5 each and a soak of 5, what happens when the group is hit for 10 damage? 11 damage? 15 damage? Is soak applied by each individual member of the group? Is a member of the group defeated for each 5 wounds suffered? A. Soak is applied only once, and then the remaining damage applied to the group’s wound threshold. In this example, the group hit for 10 damage suffers 5 wounds. No members of the group are defeated, as the total wounds suffered has not yet exceeded an individual trooper’s wound threshold. If the same group were instead struck for 11 damage, the group would suffer 6 wounds and 1 trooper would be defeated. If the same group were instead struck for 15 damage, the group would suffer 10 wounds and 1 trooper would be defeated. When a trooper is defeated, the total wound threshold and wounds suffered by the minion group does not change, but the group loses the benefits of that additional minion on skill checks.
  11. As anyone who has ever tried to walk into a very messy room can tell you, just because stuff isn't piled up to your waist doesn't mean it's just as easy to walk around as in an empty room. If things are even piled as high as your shins it starts to get difficult to walk around. I'd suggest that walkers are subject to at least some of the same penalties as anything else. True, they can step over things, but they can't "walk akimbo" or take wider steps than normal for any reason -- there are very specific ranges/patterns that the feet must step in. Basically, I'd ignore that statement in the book and just have walkers subject to the same penalties as anything else.

  13. Anyone else immediately think of Despicable Me when they read the title of this thread?
