Another scene from Rogue One that was far, far superior to anything in the sequels.
The destruction on Jeddha - as opposed to Starkiller Base firing on the Hosnian System - was so much more impactful.  OK, so we only spent about half an hour or so on Jeddha, but we quickly learned the situation there, met the locals, felt the force and the effects of the Imperial occupation and saw the beauty of the city.
Compare that to Hosnian Prime, which we barely saw, never learned anything about or experienced first hand.
Both of the Death Star attacks in Rogue One - Jeddha and Scarif - provided point of view emotional investment;  A New Hope delivered the impact of Alderaan's destruction  through the acting of Carrie Fisher, Peter Cushing and Alec Guinness;. Despite it's escalation in stakes, The Force Awakens really gave us very little in comparison.

Finn should have been the reason Holdo and others were so cagey. He was a Stormtrooper 2 days ago! And most of the people who can vouch for him are either dead or not around, and the main person (Poe) saying he's ok is a hot-head and isn't quite trusted with major military decisions anyway. Play up the paranoia and mistrust of this desperate, 'last' group of Resistance. They can't afford to just let a very recent defector have access and knowledge to all their plans.

As it stands, the entire Holdo/Poe side of the film is just "follow orders or else" and that is more First Order than Resistance. And just seems lazy.

I don't HATE TLJ like some do, but it's just Thor: The Dark Wolrd for me. I saw it, I know what happened, I don't need to rewatch it again lol It's like Rian had a great script written around Rey and Luke and Keylo, but then someone reminded him that there were other characters in Force Awakens and thought "oh...um...well here's some arguments and a casino planet, done!"

Also, Rose should have been Jess Pava. Already established, a great actor, a pilot (which Finn seems to always need) and someone Poe would trust to go with Finn (and would trust Poe's judgement on this ex-stormtrooper).

Yeah,  what they're calling the "Game of Thrones syndrome" would be more accurately described as "dropping the ball".
Utterly, miserably and hopelessly dropping the ball.

I am a huge fan of Star Wars, and always will be.
The Last Jedi crashed so many things for me that I'm having a really hard time looking forward to the Rise of Skywalker.  Rey is unbelievable as a character (and she's a Mary Sue), Luke turned back into whiny garbage, Finn had an awkward relationship foisted upon him and became a spokesperson for Rich People Bad, Snoke destroyed an ENTIRE REPUBLIC in one multi-shot and then got lamely wasted by Mini-Me Vader before we learned why and how he'd managed to become so damned powerful, and Admiral Holdo was an idiot who could have avoided most of the mess SHE caused if she'd let the Republic's premier starfighter ace in on her plan to begin with.
DJ, I will grant, was an awesome and complex character. But the vast majority of the movie almost just gives me heartburn when I think about it.

Truth here. I don't expect it will be great, but like TFA, I expect to walk out of the movie content that it was entertaining.

TLJ did have a few good points in a movie that I didn't like overall. Anyone that saws there wasn't a "single good point" is exaggerating. Solo is in my top 3 of best Star Wars movies, but I am a huge fan of heist movies. As is Rogue One, but then again, I am a huge fan of the Dirty Dozen, and those movies hit the marks I was looking for.
If you aren't a fan of the genres, it can be understandable that it may have missed the mark a bit.

This is where Farmer's critique fell apart. You can talk about how well crafted a movie was, its pacing, its cinematography, its use of symbolism, etc., but if it misses its mark with its intended audience, its a failure.
If you go to the newest Transformers movie, and what you get is Citizen Kane except all the parts are played by giant robots, its a bad movie no matter how well crafted. Sometimes you just wanted to see giant robots punching each other.

...not in the least because the Resistance amounts to a dozen or so people (and unknown quantity of Ports) on a single ship.
Unless, once again, numbers are arbitrarily changed off screen between films.  If there's one thing The Last Jedi taught us, it's that resources mean nothing* in the Sequelverse.
*except for fuel, of course.  That suddenly matters a lot.

Yeah, unfortunately we're probably not ever going to know exactly what George's ideas for his sequels were, but just like the prequels, chances are they would have split opinion as well.
It was never going to be an easy job, bringing beloved characters back to the screen after 25 odd years of anticipation.

This seems to be part of the problem.  There was no real NEED to "tie up nine films".
Return of the Jedi was the perfect end to the Star Wars saga.  When the prequels came about, they certainly didn't do everything right either but they didn't completely shatter everything that came before.
The sequels didn't need to "tie everything together"; they just need to tell a fresh new story, expand upon the universe and pass the torch over to to a new generation of actors and characters.  By marketing this as "the end of the Skywalker Saga", they haven't even managed to do that.
Of course, that could technically be a misquote.  Daisy might have said "TIE up nine films".  I'm all for that kind of action.

You're perfectly entitled to your opinion.  I am equally entitled to mine.  Trust me, it's not your opinion I'm laughing at.
Your lack of reading comprehension is disturbing.  Maybe it is the self-entitled rage blinding you, but what I actually said was:
"The Skywalker Saga ended with Return of the Jedi.  Everything after that has been a cash grab".
Everything after that being Force Awakens and The Last Jedi (so far).
There is no anti-Disney agenda here; I'm perfectly capable of acknowledging worthwhile contribution s to the Star Wars saga, which Rogue One was.  ****, even Solo had some merit (compared to the Least Jedi, anyway).

Cool, so you're happy with cash grabs and bastardisation s of the original story.  That's totally fine.
What's not fine is assuming anyone who is not happy with the above is an absolute a-hole fixated entirely on invading your happy space.
