  1. Detonate isn't an action, but rather triggers after either player takes an action. Both of your scenarios could include the detonate, the first would just have another action still
  2. I believe Detonate can be triggered after any action by either player. I need to reread the entry for Detonate X....

    New RRG!

Meh, it's life. I happen to enjoy reading rules, so it works

    New RRG!

The changes in red make them very easy to miss for some of us
  5. I agree. All it would take is new cards printed for him and his commands. So he could be an operative for the Empire or a commander for a scum faction.
  6. To counter that, you could instead keep 2 DLT squads in the back with Veers and use the leftover points to give them trooper upgrades. They're now Veers guardian troop fodder, since the DLTs are what we all really care about
  7. I prefer to run all/most DLTs. I keep trying to convince myself to use the HH-12 units, but it seems easy to suppress and then it's either ready or shoot, not both. I like flexible units more than I like specialized ones, too.
  8. Looks fun. My last game I played something similar. Being trooper light can really hurt, especially if you misplay your bikes. I definitely did, and the delicate bikes definitely didn't help me... But my Vader list has switched to 2 bikes, 6 trooper units and the big man himself. Let us know how your list works!

    Lighted Models

These are really awesome! Great work! I'm looking forward to see Boba Fett with lit jets....
  10. If things get too close to your stormtroopers, just move into melee!
  11. Some local stores have been discussing running 500 point games on X-Wing night. Sorta as a recruiting tool for the game and to get faster games in the small space available...
  12. I've been thinking about this recently as well. Thanks for putting it down in words. My speeder bike die so easily, so I've started choosing my generic 2/3 pip cards to start the game and for my second activation and it helps me control when my delicate bikes ride into the field. I still haven't nailed down a solid way to use them, but I promised my wife I wouldn't be spending much on games for a bit (remodeling bathrooms and working on floors), so I can't just replace my bikes with more stormtroopers, yet... Anyway, good thought exercise! I think I'll try only using Standing Orders of I run out of command cards after my Commander dies, as that's the only way I see it being useful at this point...
  13. My buddy and I split a Core and each got one, so we got 4 Corps and 2 Support, but still can field a 4-500 pt learning game with Significant Others or friends interested in learning the game.
  14. I was kinda hoping that this thread would be instructions for putting the speeder bikes to good use. That being said, I don't have the pedals, turbine, or gun glued to my models yet for this very reason! The pictures above helped a lot, though!
  15. I plan to paint my Rebels as pilots. Which amounts to orange jumpsuits under their jackets. I’d like to add a helmet or two to the flight/squad leaders on the base. My story will be some kind of pilot commando strike force. Rogue Squadron or something fun like that. I would love pilot figures, but I’ll happily make do without
  16. Sounds like a great rule. A little extra incentive to finish painting what you’ve got. My wife and I were discussing when we’d buy expansions and she was suggesting we wait until we’ve played the game. She’ll dig your rule, though I may suggest we get one for each army at a time (for playability, of course). Thanks for sharing!
  17. I really want to get everything. I really, really want to get everything! But I also really want to sell my wife and gaming buddies on this game. I’m going to stick with the Core for now. I’ll paint it up really nicely (hopefully), build a nice table (well, gaming mat with terrain pieces. Yay Scarif!), and once it really gels and if they take to it, then invest more into it. Our table at home is a small Ilea table. We can fit 6 around it for D&D, but just barely. So the Core armies should do fine for us initially. None of us have much experienced with minis or wargaming, so while we all think it looks and sounds cool, I’m the only one who pulled the trigger so far. Hopefully I can sell them on it (especially my wife. We’ve been looking for a fun new 2-player game), otherwise this’ll be an expensive diorama... TLDR: I’ll start with just the Core set, but hopefully I’ll expand as things catch my eye (or even better, my wife’s eye!). Probably with individual unit boxes instead of a second Core.
  18. Im still in the design stages of my terrain. One of the most exciting things to me is the idea of lighting and effects on such a scenic type of game, so I'm planning to make a bunch of smoking ruins and burning vehicles as cover. This is pretty much what I'm thinking: Spikes bits link. I have an old Z95 model I made from clay that's been sitting in a box for the last 3 years, so that's definitely going to crash into my board (though I'm deciding if it will be a permanent part or a moveable, placeacle piece...). Thinking of a Scarif-based board, so it seems fitting! (...well, a smoking vehicle, since it isn't a crashed U-Wing...it kinda looks like an X-Wing...) Add the burning remains of the equipment they blew up at the start of the ground battle in Rogue One, maybe the wreckage of a speeder bike or an astromech droid...could be fun! I'm also toying with the idea of lighting up other parts of my board: bunker doorways, equipment like vaporators or other technobabble equipment, noncombatant droids, that sort of thing. I may even dedicate a RaspberryPi to controlling various lighting effects...though that seems like overkill compared to the LED candles. My boss wants to give us some RaspberryPis for personal use, which come with the Google AIY kit, so I'm also considering trying to incorporate that...ideas? So far I'm considering playing music/effects through the speaker, but I prefer to use my tablet for that, as I already do that for the various rpgs I play...Maybe program an audio turn counter? I'm sure there is something really great and/or obvious that is right in front of my face, but I'm not seeing it... Anyway, I think this sort of game really offers a lot of cool opportunities for lighting or other fun effects, bound only by our imagination (and budget...and time...)!
  19. So I've been thinking about this a bit recently (my job involves staring at a lot of loading bars, don't judge me!). I don't know if I've reached a solution. I don't think I'm going to try playing the game until I actually get my Core Set. However, in playing with the initial numbers, it makes sense to me for the Rebel player to max out on their Corps/Trooper units. Likewise, I think the Imperial player may tend toward a low Trooper unit, maybe even the minimum of 3, while including lots of Support and Armor. My current armies are something like 796 point Rebel w/ 6 trooper units and an AT-RT and 800 point Imp with 3 troopers and 3 speeders. The Rebels will play pretty basic: try to make the most of Nimble by getting to the objective and holding it. Conversely, the Imperials will play in waves: the speeders swoop in and soften up the Rebels, hopefully tipping the field in favor of the troopers. They'll really want to focus fire something down that first round, then hopefully severely damage something during their escape in the second round. The storm troopers will use that first turn to double-move into better positions for the following turns. Not on top of the objectives, but close enough to shoot at them from cover until the final round, when they should be able to swoop in with support from Vader to roll the board. I think the DLT-19 trooper will be the more useful upgrade to take. It has a little bit of Impact, so it can hit Heavies. It also doesn't have the movement restrictions. I think the MPL-S7 Ion trooper will be more popular than the Z6 trooper. As much fun as throwing a fistful of dice is, those whites won't be as consistent. The key to keep the speeders useful will be Comlinks on the bikes and a coordinated assault...which makes me somewhat concerned that, like X-Wing players currently claim (don't play enough to know), the Imperials will be fighting and uphill battle. Or maybe not. Need more data! Also, I think the Imperials are going to get the awesome Heavy units early on, which will probably tip the scales their direction for a bit. Just a collection of my thoughts on the matter
  20. I'll keep playing IA with friends, but I was never impressed enough to buy the game. It's fun enough to play, but I don't like to spend money on things just because of the brand. To each their own I will definitely be playing Legion, though! I've been wanting to get into a competitive game, so had been looking hard at X-Wing or Armada (and even considering IA Skirmish), but Legion really fits what I wanted. Very excited for my preorder to arrive!
  21. I like both sides for different reasons. My wife likes the look of the Rebels better, so most games I'll be Imps, but at the game store I'll probably play whichever one I'm more excited for that week :3 I love me some Vader (seriously <3 James Earl Jones' voice!), Speeder Bikes seem like a blast (I've been honing lists revolving around TIE Strikers in X-Wing recently, so I got me some plans here...) and the troopers look really well done, so I'll love playing the Imps! Likewise, I enjoy the X-Wing series, so I'm toying with the idea of painting up Luke and my Rebels in orange jumpsuits under their jackets, which looks awesome in my head...especially on that AT-RT! I'm just really excited for this game!
  22. Looks very cool! I hope they do well so that they continue to produce new models
  23. I really like the magnets idea It may be the route I go further down the line...
