  8. Bumping this thread - there's only 4 more days to preregister, looking forward to a kickass event! I'd also like to mention something that's been on their site for a while, but I've not yet posted here - that Team Covenant representatives will be on hand for the event, and will be filming and commentating the finals rounds, just in case that sways anyone who was debating whether or not to make the trip.

Additionally, for anyone who wants to make a weekend of it, we're also going to host a "Two-Headed Rancor" (2v2) tournament on Sunday. The entry fee for that event will be $10/team, and the winning team members will each get their choice of in-stock Star Wars graphic novels (up to $19.99 MSRP). We can only run this with 6 or more teams, but I feel confident we can hit that between my local guys and any out-of-towners who decide to stick around for day two.

    See you all this Saturday!

  9. Ground Zero Comics is proud to announce a Star Wars LCG Regional Championship tournament on May 17th! Seating will be extremely limited, so be sure and preregister early!

    - All participants will receive an alternate art card unique to this event!

    - Top 16 will receive a set of lucite damage counters!

    - Top 8 will receive the coveted Regionals playmat, featuring Jabba the Hutt!

    - Top 4 will receive highly sought-after oversized, dual-sided, spot-glossed affiliation cards for Smugglers and Spies/Scum and Villainy!

    - And of course, our champion will receive the beautiful Regional Champion trophy, PLUS a first-round bye at the 2014 Star Wars LCG World Championships!

The tournament will start at 10:00, and we will play six rounds of swiss, followed by a cut to top 8, so plan for a full day of gaming. We will have food available for purchase in the store, and we will also be breaking for lunch - please be advised if you're driving in that Ground Zero has a no outside food and drink policy.

Entry fee will be $20 in advance, $25 day of - BUT, you'll get a $5 discount if you pay cash. We only have 64 slots available, so if you're planning on traveling in, you can register for the tournament over the phone with a credit card. We strongly recommend this if you are traveling in from out of town to ensure your spot. We will update this page once the tournament is full.

Thanks to everyone who comes out, and May the Force be with all of you!

You can call the store to preregister at 903-566-1185, and you can find the facebook page for the event at https://www.facebook.com/events/1417855448466766/

  10. You know, I really hadn't considered how good Repair and Refurbish can be in 1v1, since most of the other Balance pods suck so hard in it.

I don't like having 4 Sith pods, though - I try and keep my splashes to 3, that way I'm guaranteed at least 1 imperial objective in my initial draw.

  11. I don't tend to splash "some" control - the more focused the deck on a single wincon, the more consistently it'll achieve that - if I do need a couple of pods that do something different from the rest of my deck, I try and make sure that they're also useful for the deck's primary tactic. Something like

    2x Death and Despayre

    2x Deploy the Fleet

    2x The Executor Arrives

    1x Imperial Blockade

    with

    2x Lord Vader's Command

    1x Fall of the Jedi

The 3 Vader pods are off-focus from the rest of the deck, but they're still fully able to integrate into the big beefy aggro in the other 7 pods, while giving you a little bit of flexibility to potentially steal the force early, get past a no-vehicles objective, or something to that effect.

The Smugglers deck looks like a lot of fun, though, and if played right, could do quite well at a SC.

  12. Hi, everybody - I'm the TO for the Tyler regional. Glad that the confusion regarding the two Region 5 tournament dates has been cleared up, and wanted to make a statement regarding the placement of the two Regional events. Obviously, I can't speak for FFG on this, but I do know that with Regionals becoming such a limited type of event this year, there was a lot of pressure on the application process - I felt fairly sure that with so many big markets in my region, there was little chance my shop would get picked, but I still sent in an application, and tried to put my shop's best face forward, as it were. I still stand by what I said in the application - I feel like Tyler is uniquely placed to pull from most of the major markets in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas, and we've got a great store, with lots of fast food within walking distance, and several nearby hotels for those who decide to make use of them.

All that being said, though, I assumed that if my shop were to get one of the two Regionals, that the other would be in the Western part of Texas, or in New Mexico. I understand FFG's rationale in giving the Covenant Store a Regional - there aren't many bigger supporters of the game than them, and it would feel a little weird in a way for them not to have one of the big tournaments. That being the case, though, I feel like it is a little unfair to people coming from NM as the situation currently stands.

Something that some people probably aren't entirely taking into account, though - every venue had to send in an application, and FFG had to weigh two different factors when deciding where to assign the tournaments. Geographical location was obviously a big one, but the other was the strength of the application and, by extension, the strength of the venue. FFG has a vested interest in making sure they pick the best possible venues for these tournaments, and some geographical concessions may have been made in order to facilitate that. I know that for my part, I'm going to be pulling out every possible stop to make sure our tournament on the 17th is as fantastic of an experience as possible for those who attend, and I sincerely hope it goes well enough that we're able to do it again next year.
