Also how would you determine surge results, or morale results? While I can understand the feeling that just rolling 2 or 3 dice doesn't have the epic feeling of armies marching across the field because you aren't rolling as many dice as Warhammer or Warmahordes, Runewars was designed for minimal dice being rolled and the cost of the surges and morale cards, is based with that in mind. .

You said that miniature war gamers have "a short attention span" or at least, you did. The short attention span isn't remotely accurate at all. Miniature war gamers keep interest in a game regardless of "New" content. Look at Daemon/Chaos players for 40k. They went how many years before they got a new rule book? Their first rule book was in 4th. They didn't get anything new until 7th edition. However, people still played with Chaos Daemon armies, and tried to make them work. Just about every faction in that game goes a minimum of 4-5 years before they get revamped rules and the like. And longer than that before they actually get new units, or see existing ones removed from play. Sisters of Battle is still using pewter figurines, which GW moved away from a while ago, and they are no plans for long term plastic models in that factions' future. People still play the Sisters of Battle.
Battletech was one faction (The Inner Sphere) for years, and while you had the 5 great houses, for the most part you didn't have much variety in what mechs were on the field regardless of faction. Then the Clans came years down the road with new models and rules and someone other than the Inner Sphere to fight. Flames of War is technically two factions, any WW 2 Mini game is two factions, and few ever see a Western Front Russian faction, Africa Campaign, or Pacific Theater for years in either factions, rules, or models. So your "You need multiple factions otherwise people will lose interest and move on" is wrong on many levels. Just because you might lose interest, it does not mean that anyone else will.
You are correct that Runewars Minis needs a robust release schedule to stay alive, but given that there is an increasing probability that the game won't be out until after Adepticon, and the presence there will be from FFG owned and controlled kits, rather than players bringing their own, announcing the Elves before they even have the core sets available is a poor mistake, because it will alienate people who will view it as greed, and attempting to fund something that might not see support, because of the issues with GW IPs getting support.
My guess is that when this is On the Boat or about to start Shipping is when we will see the individual blisters and the known expansion models announced, and after that, the next faction or two. The Latari Elves and maybe a fourth faction are probably a Q4 release date, given that people more in the know of the Runewars setting seem to think that the Elves all but guaranteed and the Chaos equivalent is the most likely culprit for a 4th faction.

Westonard got a reaction from Fomorian in Runewars not ready for Adepticon (rumor)
I wouldn't say that missing one event is a sign of collapse. If that was true Armada would have collapsed for missing the Massing at Sullust event.
Edit: After all they aren't even necessarily missing Adepticon. Just that an official tournament isn't in the works.

Westonard got a reaction from Fomorian in Upcoming Previews
Well if the February date is still accurate, it would need to be on the boat by next week, and have a 4 to 5 week trip, then ship the last week of February, only 27 days in the month this year. Really to be at Adepticon it needs to ship by next week, week after at the absolute latest with a short boat ride. It is entirely possible you might get your Ides of March joke.

You don't do anything. If your movement would be 0, you sit there without moving, and wasted your activation.

Westonard got a reaction from Taki in Who else is probably starting with two Core Sets?
I am buying two core sets, and depending on how many plates come with a blister additional units, my tentative plan is for 3 golems and Lancers, 6 knights and archers, 12 of each spearman. So one of the two bigger units, hopefully just one of each archer and knight, and two of each spearman. No idea if it will be 1 tray per blister or 2 for the infantry. Hoping on 2 per infantry and the knights, with the big golem and lancer being solos. I think 2 of the reanimates and spearman is likely due to composition, same with knights and archers. But we won't know for a little while yet.

Westonard got a reaction from Supertoe in FFG announce officilay the end of WH Diskwars
"Hi everyone!
so, yes, its FAKE. Yes, i invented that notice.
WHY?
Well... i have the crazy idea that if maybe i say something like this someone of FFG appears to say just "thats not true, we have the game in our future plans, you gonna see more content..." but no.
Instead i see a lot of interesting toughts in the forum and the game its little bit alive today than yesterday
You can say me whatever you want, if you think it was a bad idea, say to me, no problem i accept.
I just love the and i want the best for Diskwars System.
And now, my tought! One of the creators of the game is the FFG CEO so, i think that when he has bored to dig in his gold pool thanks to Star Wars, maybe he wants to complete this amazing game!!
(sorry for my written english, i know its very bad, aslo iam tipping very fast and i dont have enough time)
So, thats its! ITS FAKE!!
KILLME!! OR JUST IGNORE ME!!1 WHATEVEEER!!!"
Going by the similarity of usernames, you are no where near official, and not funny. Your post on BGG was spam, which is what it is here.

Westonard got a reaction from alexbobspoons in What you would like to see next?
Just getting into it, have stuff ordered on CSI, will just be a bit before I get it all, since it was a bundled pre order. But with the mention of Deluxe, I could see an Inquisition Deluxe, which would have SoB for Imperium and Gk and Death Watch, with Inquisitor commanders who could pull from either one, if the Inquisition specific was kind of "Well it's already Imperium and SM allies"

Westonard got a reaction from neogothor in Expansions
As much as I wouldn't mind another expansion for WHQ, given FFG's habit with GW products, I wouldn't hold my breath. Five months of nothing isn't necessarily a good sign, regardless of sales. Unfortunately it seems like FFG has just gone full Star Wars with minimal development of anything beyond Star Wars that isn't already part of their established massively successful franchises. TBH Elder Sign getting love is a bit surprising, but Relic not having anything isn't. I mean, look at Forbidden Stars. Been almost a year. FFG releases good games, but they have a very bad habit of not supporting anything that isn't Star Wars, or an older established game such as Battlelore, Descent, or Talisman.

Westonard got a reaction from Jedhead in Expansion stalker
Sadly I think Warhammer Diskwars has been abandoned by FFG. It wouldn't be the first time something fell to the wayside. While I and many others hoped it was not the case, I think when they pulled the plug on the tournament scene that was it. For me the recent announcement of the Elder Signs expansion was the final nail. When that is getting an expansion a year, and it is not as popular as their other major Arkham title, and this has gotten nothing for a year and a half on top of GW pushing AoS so hard, I think this is it. And unless there is a new announcement, the last time I will probably venture into this forum :C

Westonard got a reaction from 0beron in The Cataclysm new expansion is announced
For people discussing price and content, while it is 10 more than other corner board expansions, it clearly has a red oval 'expansion requires base game to play' Since it is a new big board, they need to create new event cards. I will get this at some point, I still need to complete my Talisman collection first. I imagine that the new core board will let them introduce variants to corner boards in 2018, since following their release model, 2017 will have two small box expansions.

Westonard got a reaction from Vykes in Where will you buy wave 2 from?
See, I bought my stuff online because of the local stores in my area, one is a Hobbytown USA which only has Warhammer/40k stuff going on in the gaming corner, or a really scummy Comic book store. And I know it is scummy from my own personal experiences. Back when I played Magic years ago, when the Commander decks first came out they: Removed the oversized cards to charge extra for them and B: charged more for certain Commander decks once they were down to one of that option. On free comic book day, they were charging for the comic books that you were supposed to get for free. And they will over charge for things, not because they have a bottom line to meet, but because they can and are the only local actual gaming store like that. The Hobbytown is down near the mall, as is the only other non actual comic book/gaming book only store that I know of. So location means they price gouge on whatever they can get away with, whether it is comic books, cards, what have you.
The other store that used to be in the area that closed down, the manager took advantage of the kids playing Yu Gi Oh, offering poor store credit for the cards they had that he would either sell for five times that cost if not more, or just offer really poor store credit with a lot of pressure so he could give that card to his son for his deck. Any local store tournaments had in store staff or family as winners, unless it was an official one, that he couldn't weight for his outcome, and was stuck with being watched by tournament reps so he couldn't price gouge the requirements.

Replying rather than editing: Mail should arrive Tuesday, so my new guess is that the official street release is June 2nd.

Just got an email update from Coolstuffinc letting me know the pre order was being sent out. And Coolstuffinc is one of those companies that ships quickly and is usually good about doing their best to make sure that pre orders arrive at your door on street release date. Actual mailing info is not available just yet, so speculation about the actual date, but my assumption is tomorrow, maybe Saturday if not then then June 1st.

Westonard got a reaction from DeathByRockLobba in Hero Types and Roles
I agree with what you said, about the sword dancers and daemonettes being units you always send in after activation, because they are so fragile when pinned. I don't know if I would consider them body guards though. To me that seems more like a role the Greatswords or the elf spearmen would fill, since they have swift counter attack, and force your opponent to move around them, and with the right terrain or even in a good defensive position, could be a definite roadblock to getting to your pinata caster candy or support heroes. Swordmasters would fill this role as well, they are brawlers when pinning, but better when pinned.

Westonard got a reaction from Jedhead in Hero Types and Roles
It is a very nice analysis, and pretty accurate from what i have experienced.
I was thinking about it at work, for Infantry that fall in the Assassin/Hunter Killer category, the Wood Elf Wardancers definitely fit, becoming 5/5 Swift/Swift when attacking their target as long as they aren't pinned, and Daemonettes fall there as well, Swordsmen of Hoeth maybe, they are kind of brawler-ish with their stat line even with the 5 Swift attack, and only 5 movement compared to Wardancer and Daemonette 6, the Tomb Banshee is another Maybe.
Honestly I would like her a lot better with a minor change. In my opinion her skill should be 1d6-1 Min 1, and -maybe- 1 more move. I can understand why they went with 1d6-2, because 1d6-1 that is a 1/6 chance of just destroying chunks of an your opponent's army. However, 1d6-2 with no minimum damage, she has a 2/3 chance of being relatively useless, 1/3 of completely useless, 1/3 of being mostly useless with 1 or 2 damage, 1/6 of being a little bit of a threat with 3, and 1/6 of doing 4 damage.
1d6-1 min 1 makes her 1/3 of being mostly useless with 1 damage, 1/3 of being useful with 2-3 damage, and 1/3 of being a threat with 4-5.
As I said, I can somewhat understand why they elected 1d6-2, because statistic wise, you have a 2/3 chance of doing something. However, math wise that isn't the case, since the average roll of a d6 is either 2.5 or 3.5 which..is either nothing or 1 damage on average, and considering she is a priority target for range and really has a Toughness 5, not Toughness 3 half Physical, a 1/3 chance of being useless is just bad odds and bad model.
Edit: 1d6-2 with a minimum of one doesn't fix her issue from a math/average point of view, because then she becomes 1/3 of doing 1 damage which, still isn't good for her.
Edit Edit: Fixed probability math problems..I think I got them all

Westonard got a reaction from MechaBri.Zilla in Hope for Diskwars
Vampire Counts seem to play differently than other armies. Where most other armies benefit from rushing in on massive Scrums, Vampire Counts benefit more from the long game, with whittling down their enemies and reanimating their own.

So, In a room I moderate in, which is a Warhammer general discussion chat room, people are discussing the current drastic overhaul to the WHFB meta. It occurred to me that very well could also be a reason why WH: DW was put on hold. Either FFG wants to see how things will end up playing out story wise -or- GW told them to wait before they release heroes/units that might be killed off in the current setting.
Edit: Yes, -technically- Isabella von Carstein is dead but she is a general for WHFB, but things can be changing such as..what is currently happening with Naggaroth, which would actually change Dark Elves and High Elves.
-
Westonard got a reaction from MechaBri.Zilla in Hope for Diskwars
I agree that certain combos need to go away, or have counters or other viable options. However, something to remember, DW only came out this year. With the current stuff they are hyping launching now or within the next couple months, I would expect to see some more previews for other stuff in the near future, which will hopefully be Elves, both Wood and Dark. And, a hope they would change the stance on cover, because it would really change the meta, and how terrain is placed if Cover stacked with woods/terrain that gave it.

So, I was just looking at Elder Sign, which is the other thing I really enjoy. I do like FFG and their Cthulhu stuff, I have a bit of Arkham Horror, not as much considering all the expansions, and I don't have all the expansions for Mansions of Madness. That said, it took a year and a half for Elder Sign to get its second expansion, I just think that we were a little spoiled since we got two-ish expansions within six months of the game's release. Honestly I will be hopeful and remain optimistic until FFG has obviously abandoned this game and it has been years with no news/tournament kits/expansions. They are pushing their new stuff, SW Armada, 40k conquest, their new RPGs for the end of the world stuff, SW will likely get a lot of hype and sales with Episode 7 coming out next year, so their focus and milking it makes sense.
So I just counsel patience.
