  1. Might be interesting if the palpatine side can flip to Sidious, but the Sidious side has a separatist limitation. So you could equip palpatine to a republic ship and reveal him later, or equip the Sidious side face up to a separatist ship at start. Not sure how that would be worded. The thing is, I’m not sure anyone who even knew “Darth Sidious” existed survived (other than Anakin, yoda, and obi-wan, of course). After the separatist leaders were all killed I figure “Darth Sidious” became unknown. It certainly seems that no one in the Empire knew that the Emperor could use the force.
  2. You’re making my point for me. He wanted a war and used it to progress the galaxy to a point that he could declare himself emperor. Like I said, he probably weighted things to go the way they did, but if greivious and the droid armies had been more effective, or the Jedi and clones less so, he could have made it work. The point is that he only interacted with the republic as palpatine, and he only interacted with the separatists as Sidious.
  3. The same can be said about him and the Republic. As Chancellor Palpatine he controlled the Republic, as Darth Sidious, through his apprentice, he controlled the Separatists. Remember, the leadership of the CIS knew about "Lord Sidious", and that he was Dooku's master. While he probably weighted his schemes for the republic to win, I think he would have been perfectly happy if it had gone the other way. His goal was the conflict itself, he almost certainly used his position to provide intelligence or strategic planning to the CIS in order to draw the war out until he was ready. Certainly no one in the Republic knew who "Darth Sidious" was, or worked with him in that capacity, while no one on the separatist side knew that the sith Lord they were taking orders from was a member of the Republic.
  4. And you can l i t e r a l l y see an entirely separate card named Sidious. Why is it so hard to understand that they are showing us 2 separate pieces of cardboard. The possibilities Palpatine and Sidious are different cards, with palpatine flipping to some other effect. This is what the picture shows, but makes no sense thematically Palpatine and Sidious are the front and back of the same card, and FFG included 2 copies in the spread to tease us, but only 1 copy will come in the expansion. Possible, but they have never done anything like that before. Previous flip cards have only shown 1 side in the spread, and the mechanic was called out in the article text, with pictures of the two sides individually. Palpatine and Sidious are the front and back of the same card, and 2 copies are being included in the expansion. This makes even less sense, as surely they are both unique.
  5. No kidding. I was genuinely expecting the CIS to have a Sidious card that was basically identical to palpatine, but with a dark twist.
  6. Yeah, I was just getting ready to say the same thing. The only significant difference between the imperial and “regular” versions is the imperial one extends the “wings” back to the engine pods. Other than that they basically look the same. The c-roc on the other hand completely changes the nose, adds a vertical tail, more engines. You really have to pick up the 2 models and compare them to realize they are actually basically the same ship.
  7. Yeah, it’s the buzz droid token that has me curious as it can either slot into a base, or be slotted into by a template. Cannot figure out what that’s about.
  8. That was only an announcement article though. If you look at the tag lines for their articles, they seem to make a distinction between announcements and previews, and generally speaking each individual ship gets a preview article. Could be different this time though, as the announcement articles are usually for multiple products, like the clone wars one the other day, and not for an individual booster. We’ll find out sometime in the next week or two.
  9. They’ve been dropping articles pretty fast this past week or so, that is usually an indication that a release is imminent and they need to get the “preview” articles posted before the product actually releases, so I wouldn’t be surprised if stuff showed up this weekend, especially if a mining guild tie preview shows up tomorrow (Thursday).
  10. Not that I know of, but tournament rules could be different. Ive certainly been assuming that these will either be fieldable in bigger numbers, or have some gimmick that keeps them alive longer. They are able to share calculate tokens, so no matter which one you shoot at, it will probably have modded defense at least.
  11. And then you have to include him in every game you play from then on, regardless of what faction, or even what game, you’re playing.
  12. I think we just needed an outlet for all this. Things have been kinda static for a while.
  13. I think vultures in general are just going to be so different to fly that nobody really knows what to do with them yet, and the grappling struts are only going to multiply that. The whole ship is so unlike anything else in the game.
  14. Also a really annoying trait, but I try to ignore threads about “the meta” because I don’t care, whereas I’m actually interested in epic play.
  15. Depends how they do it. The problem with the IG-2000 was that the ability was free. If the ship had been cheaper but the title to allow you to share abilities had cost points you might have seen individual aggressors. For a while now (in a few of their games) they have been experimenting with upgrades that interact with another ship that has the same upgrade. Armada has several, and the Synchronized Console upgrade in the republic ARC pack looks to be along the same lines. As long as each ship is getting charged points for whatever the effect is, it should be doable. A greater concern, I suspect is that such a mechanic would probably need to be balanced to a particular sized game, and would become more powerful as you scaled up. Two aggressors was powerful, 4 in epic was bonkers. So such a mechanic might limit the game’s ability to be played at different scales.
  16. FFG hasn’t gotten ANY scales wrong. If you want to complain about scale issues, at least place the responsibility where it actually belongs, on Lucasfilm. FFG is simply creating the sizes they are told are official. And while we’re at it, film models and sets are never consistent. Trying to calculate a “proper” size base on on screen images is nothing but a foolish exercise in frustration. Fictional things are however big the IP owner says they are, if an on screen depiction doesn’t match that, then the depiction is wrong (either on accident or deliberately because of some behind the scenes reasons). GuacCousteau’s approach is much better. Does the given size accommodate what’s supposed to be there? Do enough people fit, are corridors able to be tall enough, etc..?
  17. It actually reminded me a lot of star fleet battles at the time. For the same same experience today, check out Artemis Bridge Simulator.
  18. Yeah, that’s the vibe I get from it too.
  19. Not even close to being remotely similar to what I said. Standard is in a better place now than it has ever been. It is not difficult to play with huge ships using 2.0 rules and some house rules to cover the rough spots. Theoretically, the people who prefer epic are supposed to be (according to “conventional wisdom”) fine with house rules and tweaking things to make what they want work better. FFG has said they are going to redo epic. Now, whether you think they will do a good job with that, or muck it up, is a different question, but I don’t think it’s reasonable to assume that they outright lied and aren’t going to do something to update it. So, out of 6 years worth of content that needs updated, plus brand new content that still has to be developed, and a fringe mode of play that can still be played with minimal work, by people who are assumed to enjoy that kind of tweaking, I don’t think it is unreasonable to say people should be willing to wait more than 12 weeks for their particular favorite thing about the game to get updated.
  20. Just to make sure everyone is on the same page, the “regens a force point” idea is that “during your perform action step, you can do any of your actions like normal, but if you do “this” action, you get a force point back” while the free action idea is “you do an action as normal, and then can spend a force point to do “this” action, pseudo push the limit like” right?
  21. Until this thread I’d never even heard the name “soulless one”.
  22. I think you guys are worrying way too much about perceived technological differences. This is an abstract game, not a simulation (of a technologically glacial society). If the game needs the separatists to have a fighter comparable to the defender, it will.
  23. More a semi, really. A proper freighter should really be closer to a star destroyer in size. Freighters are BIG.
  24. As for the size of the HWK, I’ve accepted captain lackwits arguments, but I’ve said it before, the scenes from the original DF game still make it look a lot bigger to me. Doesn't matter though, video game visuals are THE ABSOLUTE WORST source to judge something’s size, the limitations of the medium require radical distortions, especially of interiors.
