Well, I took it for a couple of spins, and it did just fine.  Probably about on par with when I play against myself.  A decent test for a basic combat evaluation, but no master-level play. 

Not a bad idea.  Or select my maneuvers with the blast shield down on my helmet.  That would work, too.

This doesn't have wave 3 ships, but it's still pretty good for helping test out builds.

It's a web based AI, that you can use to pick maneuvers for ships. It's pretty easy to beat, so don't expect a great test of your list. But it should give you a good base line to figure if something works or not.

I agree with the folks who are saying that this is probably not a winning strategy in tournament settings.
 
That said, I also agree with the folks who are saying that this will be loads of fun to try, so why not give it a go?
 
I fully intend to try it at home playing with my wife and brothers, and I hope it is as funny/annoying as I am envisioning it in my head.

I tend to agree with Vorpal’s earlier post:  as long as there are B-Wings flying around, Y-Wings with ions are wonderful.  The pure rage of the B-Wing’s owner as you ion it over and over again is always fun.  Control in this game is fantastic, and Y-wings help provide that control. Dutch is always a solid addition to a list as well. 
 
Y-Wings are also wonderful if you tend to face Interceptors (which I do in my local meta).  They are a bit harder to hit than B-Wings, but having a turret against such a slippery opponent is solid Gold (pun fully intended).
 
I must admit it, I am a secret fan of the Y-Wing.  I always have been, and I can’t hide it anymore.

I got to use this one the other day in a game with my brothers and my wife, all of whom appreciated it.

I love it too and it will be seeing a lot of use but uggh a wing test pilot sounds terrible lol. I picture crash test dummies in the cockpit.

To be fair, Black Squadron Pilot has an EPT and is 14 points. =)
 
 
[edit] It looks like FFG has updated the big promotional photo so that the Prototype Veteran cards now say A-Wing Test Pilot. But they did something else.

[edit 2] It also looks like they changed the text of the PS5 B-Wing pilot. He had three lines of text for his ability and it began with the word "when," and now he has just two lines that begin with the word "you."

I would like to point out that 7 dice opens up the possibility of 1-shotting a Firespray.

4x Hits/Crits for shield stripping
3x Crits (looking for Direct Hit! or a successful Minor Explosion for all of these)

And the Firespray needs to completely whiff their defense.
 
 
The Empire has a way to approximate these results: Slave 1 with Darth Vader, Adv. Torps, and Opportunist results in 6 dice, followed by a guaranteed Crit.

I hadn't even thought of that!  This makes me so much more excited about this ridiculous build.  I like that Empire build as well.
 
The possibility of crits makes one-shotting a b-wing possible as well, of course, but crit generation is so unreliable that it may or may not work, especially as some dice are likely to miss altogether, even with a focus and TL.  So maybe another build is needed, one that makes crit generation more reliable.  But where will I get enough dice and reliable crit generation? *Sigh*  I guess you can't have it all...
