ClanNatioy reacted to Mikayhu in How many factions are required for this game to succeed?
Rank and file miniatures games rely on a heavy sense of faction identity. You spend a lot of time painting and creating your armies, and for longevity it helps if you have a faction that you love, with added fluff to ensure there's even some factions you hate. You have a better chance of drawing more players in when you have a large variety of interesting factions so people can find one they enjoy.
X-Wing wouldn't be the best selling miniatures game if it wasn't Star Wars. People in the forum have been arguing against that, but it's a decent game with a board game distribution model, if it had been Space Wars with a generic science fiction universe tacked on it with two factions, there's no way it'd have done as well.

ClanNatioy reacted to player1750031 in Demo video from Team Covenant
The game looks super fun and super sleek, but I am now seriously worried about the price point.
Pretty much all attacks are INCREDIBLY destructive in this game. You'll almost spend as much time removing casulties as you will planning your moves (which in itself is a gameplay problem, but let's leave that alone for now). The skellie-axey dude was taking off whole swathes of those spearmen and they didn't even count his damage multiplier ability. If they did, he'd have cleared out that entire unit of sixteen in two swings. Even a lousy two-tray unit can easily do 2-3 damage times 2 (again they forgot to count the multiplier at various points of the game). That's 4-6 dead infantry dudes or 2-3 cavalry, 1-1,5 tray. And that's not counting Panic effects that might pull even more. You will need absolutely HUGE armies of dozens of figures per unit to have the game be more interesting than "swing three times and GG, the one who engaged first wins". The core set is 6 unit and 2 hero/monster trays per side. It's 100$ bucks, so 50$ per side. And historically core sets are a significant discount to buying units separately. I shudder to think how fat the sacks of money will have to be to give you enough figures for a meaningful, strategic game.

As much as I do love the LOTR LCG, I typically love playing the villians and it's extremely disappointing that I can't make a Witch King or Goblins deck. I would have prefered it to be competitive, but at least in this case the theme for LOTR does lend itself to Co-Op very well. I'm just happy they didn't decide to go Co-Op with Star Wars! Yay, dark side decks!

ClanNatioy got a reaction from Snowhive in card count
This game has me interested in starting a lcg. The card count has me a little concerned though. It says over 200 cards split across 7 factions. Depending on how many copies there are of each type of card this could lead to there being not very many options for each faction.
So there are 7 warlords that always have their set of 8 cards. That's 63 cards right there.
Worst case scenario that leaves us with 138 cards (201-63=136). Divide that into 7 factions gives us 19.7 cards per faction. Then depending on how many copies of each card comes with that could give us any where between 6.6 (if 3 is the max you could include of any card) to 19.7 unique cards per faction.
Best case scenario after warlords and their groups we are left with 236 cards (299-63=236). Divide that into 7 factions gives us 33.7 cards per faction. Then with multiple copies of each card that gives us any where between 11 to 33.7 unique cards per faction.
This might not mean anything to a lot of people but I found it kind of interesting to crunch the numbers. Also it has me really hoping that when they say over 200 cards they really mean nearly 300. Also I think with this low of a card count that only one copy of each card is included they only bummer about this is getting all the worthless extra stuff you don't need when you buy sets 2 and 3. It seems that right out of the box being able to do a pure faction deck will not be possible and even then options will be limited. I really hope they don't go with the dreaded model of some cards getting 1 copy some having 3.
I am curious how the expansions will work for this game. I wonder if they will do the usual lcg thing of monthly 60 card packs which would give us 8 or 9 cards per faction and then if they come with 3 of each card that would give us 3 unique cards for each faction per expansion pack. Or I wonder if they will do what they are now doing with the Call of Cthulhu lcg and just do big box expansions.
Does any one know how the card spread will be in the starter box? Or am I just going to have to wait for the updates because any one that does know cant say rightnow?

I'm super happy that they didn't ruin the W40k LCG by making it some lame, wimpy co-op game. Thank GAWD!

ClanNatioy reacted to Snowhive in card count
Ok, another point for crunching the numbers. On the product page you can see, you will need 5 packs of standard sleeves. That makes max 250 card. I guess that the planet and playing cards are the same size. There are 10 planets card, so wer is a max of 240 player cards....
So, if each fraction gets a equal number of card, they get up to 34 cards per faction.
You also need one pack of Mini American sleeves - I guess for the 40 token cards.

ClanNatioy got a reaction from MechaBri.Zilla in Why all the hate for lizardmen and skaven?
If Tomb Kings and Vampire counts can work together in this game I'll throw a fit. Tomb Kings haaaaaaaate vampire counts and they better not be working together. Also even though they're both undead they have completely different play styles.
Not sure what happened with my above post. For whatever reason it kept coming out in blocks of white. sorry

ClanNatioy got a reaction from Rhiga in Expansion Wishlisting
I think it would be cool for some of the chaos/crazy goblin units is they had different stats/different abilities on either side of their disk. I think that could work well for goblins and add to the flavor of crazy goblin wackyness and it could work for some of the more unpredictable chaos units.

I think that might kinda work for mages overall aswell. Depending on side mage would have different spell. ( Would add a bit of variable and usability of mages ) For example . Damage spell (like it is now) and other side frost spell that slows enemy unit. That could also depend on race of mage. For example Empire mage could have firewall on one side ( puts a wall of fire terrain on medium range that has dangerous on it ) Oh so many ideas

ClanNatioy reacted to MechaBri.Zilla in Expansion Wishlisting
I've heard a couple people mention that they would like a 40k version of the game, and as much as I'd like to second that sentiment, I'm not sure that the Diskwars concept works as well in a game that is based more on ranged combat rather than melee.
One of the strengths of Diskwars is that so little of the game is random, to make a 40k version you would be placing the emphasis of the game on the one part of the game that actually is random.
Don't get me wrong, I would totally own and play that game, if only because I love me some 40k. That said, I think they would have to re-think some of the rules to make a truly good game.

ClanNatioy got a reaction from Bright Wizard in Damage type of sky cutter range attack
This came up once before and some one contacted FFG and got an answer. The Sky Cutter does untyped damage. Meaning it ignores both kinds of resistances

ClanNatioy reacted to Bright Wizard in Siege
A disk with Siege has unlimited range but still has to observe LOS. If disk wi Siege range makes a ranged attack against a disk within long range (including the shorter ranges), this attack is like any other ranged attack. If this disk with Siege makes a ranged attack against a disk farther than long range, this ranged attack only hits on a Critical Hit. At Siege range, regular hits are ignored.
-
ClanNatioy reacted to snigwiddle in Siege
Siege range is listed on pg.5 of the rulebook.
Its in the sidebox at the top.
Siege range is any range beyond long on the range ruler.
Only critical hits count when attacking at siege range,
but all hits count if you are using the unit with Siege at the lesser ranges-
short,medium,or long.
Or just what Bright Wizard, the quick typist, posted while I was pecking on this tiny tablet keyboard.

You can measure range whenever you want.
This is covered on page 5 of the rulebook in the "Range" sidebar. Its at the top right of the page

The impact damage would not be dealt. on page 21 under keywords impact reads: A disk with impact deals physical damage equal to its impact value to each disk it pins after a flip... so impact only works while the disk is moving and would not trigger on being placed through reinforcement.
Edit: the impact entry in the keywords also goes onto say: Impact damage is not applied when a disk is deployed or reinforced pinning another disk...
So unfortunately for chaos players (and a great boon to every one else) the rule book is very clear on this matter.

ClanNatioy got a reaction from MechaBri.Zilla in When does "empowered" end?
Has that been confirmed by FFG? what is the order that tokens are removed? Aren't empowered and damage tokens removed at the same time? so they couldn't take the wound if the lose of toughness and the loss of damage happened at the same time.

I contacted FFG on this and their response indicated that the damage is untyped. It will be addressed in the first FAQ.
