Just getting into this game, where are folks playing regularly and which shops are still holding contests. I heard Island Games is still supporting and that Huzzah has pretty much dropped it.

Bumping this, got some cards and looking to get some games under my belt. Ian at Island Games says guys play over there on Friday but Fridays are often rough for me. Is this game being played anywhere else???

The phenomenon is not that surprisingly really. How many times do you see a wife/gf woop ass on a March Madness bracket or fantasy football league ... even though they know absolutely nothing about it. Or the wife/gf whose never touched a video game controller before, but then proceeds to destroy folks on a FPS, smash brothers, etc. More than I'd care to admit...
I think the lesson is we WAY overthink our lists, strategy, etc, allowing someone with fresh eyes and not really knowing what the eff they're doing to come in and make us look stupid.
Keeps things interesting.

Took the first list for a spin at the tournament ... 3 straight losses. All the losses were modified wins with around a 10 point differential so It's not like the list got it's ass kicked. Wedge surprisingly survived except for the first game with some seriously lucky dice thrown against him second round.
Main thing I learned was the HLCs weren't really worth it overall. First two games things got too tight too quick to make much use of them. Game 3 I got a couple rounds to rain down on some ties with very lackluster results, then furball resumed yet again.
...back to 4-ship lists

Hey guys, I have a store championship tonight in Ashburn, VA. I don't get a lot of time to play, so most my list ideas have limited/no testing. Here's what I'm looking at:
Wedge's Broadswords - 99pts:
Daggers w/ HLC 2x
Wedge w/PTL, engine upgrade, R2
Pretty much a bruiser list...I understand probably too much being put into HLCs and is only 3-ship, but I tried this once and it worked out pretty well. especially with all three being able to dish out damage at range 3. Plus, in my mind anyways, Wedge isn't automatically the first target when there's 2 B-wings always rolling 4 dice.
Ibtisam XXBA - 99 pts:
Ibtisam w/ AS
Red Squadron 2x
Green Squadron w/ PTL
Haven't tried this yet, but seemed like a solid 4-ship with decent PS
BXXY Quads - 99 pts:
- Dagger w/ AS
- Red Squadron 2x
- Gray Squadron w/ Ion, R2
Another I haven't tried, but all PS 4 and Ion cannon for shinanigans.
Appreciate any thoughts or advice.

Just so you know where the term comes from (from my US Navy experience anyways), an alpha strike is normally a large, 1-time strike mission against a priority target(s), utilizing more aircraft that a general strike mission. Think it's a leftover term from the Vietnam war but we still use it. Lots of planes...lots of bombs.
But yeah, same idea here, hit them hard and fast with a lot of firepower. FIRE ZEE MISSILES!!!

Good to know. I'm in Arlington so treking to Rockville on a weeknight is tricky business with the 495/270 shenanigans. I might try this week though when do you get there on Wednesdays?
