    No I understand you chemical but the major reason why players die late in the game is ether a unlucky Reaper roll or very bad adventure draw or bad combat pc results. I think making characters return with their stats and or items is a bit rude personally. Talisman is a very long game and that will make it even longer. By reducing the reapers effect to just kill on a bad roll you cut down the amount of "shook" deaths.

    We play with the following:

    Upon death, the character is moved to the temple. At the start of his turn he rolls a die adding the number of turns he has stayed at the temple (first roll is at +0). If the roll+bonus is 6 or more the character ressurects at 1 life and may immediately take a turn. if the roll+bonus is lower than 6 he stays at the temple and rolls again next turn. He retains all followers objects and gained strength craft life fate. Until ressurected he is safe at the temple from enemies, characters, events and spells.

     

    This may seem like sacrilege to some players, but first, we're not a very bloodthirsty bunch, and deciding to destroy hours of character building with one fell swoop brings us more discomfort than malicious glee. Second, and more importantly, this drastically speeds up the game because there are no resets only timeouts. The lower penalty means that players can be more willing to take risks, particularly to enter the inner region much earlier.

     

    For similar reasons when becoming a toad you retain objects and followers, but cannot use their abilities.

     

    Finally, failing the test at the portal of power does not cause a loss os strength or craft

    I quite like the idea of life being set at a minimum of 1, so no permadeath. However, if you were to 'lose' that life, you would be turned into a Toad for 1d6 turns instead, possibly with a minimum of 3, but the risk of 6 turns should be enough. Normal Object drops etc still apply, but at least you don't suffer a stat loss.

    We did this before: whenever someone was killed, he had to miss 3 rounds, heal one life, and keep everything as before. But we all agreed after a few games to turn back to the official rules, because it killed the game in a way.

    Am loving the Raider Captain. 100% going to be played with my group as we love the raiders card. 2nd Edition used to be worse with the card stealing all objects as well

    I slightly changed the wording of one of the special abilities to help it fit on the card. Also I added a Riding Horse to the list of things constructs can be changed into, too give a little more choice.

    Have a computer, tablet or phone ready and set on these forums - lots of questions arise during the game and it is quicker to search the forums sometimes than read the rulebook!  And then there are the questions that are not covered by the rules that you will find here too.

    Also, have fun.  Talisman is better with beer.

    I did not play any Talisman as I had already thought would happen. Didn't play any epic or what our group would call "gamer" games. I introduced more basic games since we had a non gamer with us and her kids.
     
    I introduced Pit to them, it went over well, even my gamer friends liked it. It is re-themed with Mario, as in Super Mario.
     
    I also introduced Jamaica, they had mixed feelings about that. The guy who won did not like it.
     
    I also introduced Werewolf. This went over great! After the non gamers left we kept playing. We probably played between 12-20 games of Werewolf.
     
    Then on Monday I did something new. I been wanting to play other games that my group doesn't have interest in. (games other than  Talisman, I know sacrilege right?). And based on several references I went to meetup.com and found a local group. One guy there who heard I played Talisman a lot wants to play!  I don't think we could squeak a game of Talisman on a week night, but maybe without all the Dragon expansion my friends use, and with less people it could happen, I will have to see. Anyways I had a blast there and now will be gaming every Monday night!
     
    I almost forgot. Today on Tuesday, is the monthly family get together. So I had another night of gaming. We played Bang! the dice game (twice) and Beyond Balderdash.
     
    Lots of gaming in the last few days, it was awesome!!!

    You could print them any way you want and not worry about looking close to the official, you would just need to make a list of all characters, which you could roll a dice for to see what you get.

    Fate Master
     
    2 Strength
    4 Craft
    4 Life
    5 Fate
     
    Abilities:
    At the beginning of each turn gain 1 fate, if you have less fate than your starting value.
      At the beginning of combat, before rolling the die, you may spend 1 fate to increase your strength or craft by +1.  You may spend any number of fate this way and this is can be used in conjunction with standard fate rules.
      You never need to choose whether your fate is light or dark, you may use either at will.  If you encounter a card that needs you to specify your fate, you may choose either the light or dark fate results at the time of encounter.  If you have no fate, you are considered fateless as normal.
      When you win a battle against a player character, you may steal 1 fate in addition to your usual reward.  If the player has no fate, he must remove 1 life in addition.
      If at the end of your turn, your fate is lower than your life, then you must lose 1 life.

    Alignment:  Neutral
     
     
    Edit:  On a side note, I wish I had time to put together a good grouping of player created characters.  I have the skills and tools to give professional PDFs for everyone to print... just not the time... at the moment.  Could be a fun side project.  I'd need an artist that would want to illustrate these cards though, unless I really wanted to dust off old skills.
