X wing is actually a very low priced miniature game.
Armada is actually on par for a miniature wargame.
Price of entry for warhamner is hundreds of dollars, and a competitive army could easily cost thousands.
Point is i dont think comparing the price of armada to x wing is gonna get you anywhere. X wing is cheaper, flat out. If keeping up with the meta is your thing, x wing is older so its gonna cost more to get every ship. But give armada a few waves and its gonna cost more.

That's just it, the Timing is all critical and all important.

G8s can only do something during the target ships activation.

Phyloms can only do something at the very start of your activation.

Konstantine is status phase, which is after all activations...

Basically, the best you can do with it, is Reduce it to Speed 1 (through Phylom and Konstantine, who are a Minimum of 1)...  And then, when it tries to move the next turn, make it do a speed 0 maneuver if it doesn't have a Nav Token or Dial...

To say that the SSD would have to roll 100 dice is...not right. I mean how many dice does a CR 90 throw? 2? 3? And the Vic throws 6. Does that mean that a Vic only have x2 or x3 the fire power of a corvette? I dont think so, but correct me if im wrong. Its a relative scale guys.
Also, do we know the measurements of the ISD? IMHO, if its the size of the x wing transport, then if the SSD was the size of the x wing corvette, even an inch or two longer, that would work for me. And that would mean a manageable length.

I think its better to be more complicated rule wise thsn x wing, but bad to be as complicated as 40k

Eyeless1 got a reaction from Ravncat in Unique models for unique ships?
So the ISD thread made me think of this question.

So the MC-80 has two(at least) different variants. The classic "Liberty" and the "Home One" variants.
Do you think they will make two different models for these ships? Or would they only make one model and just include different title cards? Or perhaps a repaint?

On the imperial side, are there any special ISDs that have a slightly different design where they could end up making two different models like the MC80s? Or would they do repaints and a different kit like they did with the different Aces packs for X wing?

And on a side note, i kinda hope the make the Arc Hammer.

Eyeless1 got a reaction from Koma76 in Group splitting to reach loved ones
Yeah...I havent quite figured this one out yet. We wont start till next week. It just so happens that most of my group's families (parents and young siblings) live in the same subdivision, so keeping them together wont be a problem. But what do I do with their families? This is a great question. I would like something more than "they were ripped apart by zombies." I have two mothers in my play group (yes, I even got my wife to commit to playing with us! woohoo! She is going to carry our 3 mo old in her backpack during the rpg. Im going to make her roll to see if the baby cries at the most inconvenient of times...) and I dont think that they, the mothers, would like to see their kids get eaten by zombies.

So, to answer this, Im going to say that the wife(not playing with us) and kids of player A are going to be visiting his parents on the night of the apocalypse while we are gathered at his house to play MTG(which is what we do). My wife will be at home, and Ill go rescue her once we see the initial murder out in street in front of player A's house. We will then go to where Player A's parents live, which is also in the same area as my mother's house and players B and C's (they are brothers) house.
But once we get here, i dont know what to do. Maybe most of the community (we are a tight knit religious community, so everyone knows everyone in a few block radius) up and left all together really quick, maybe they some how evacuated to somewhere....I dont know...

I also have player players E and F (who are married and have a kid) who live about 15 miles away....I'm thinking they will be a on a date with the baby at his parent's house, also in the same neighborhood, and they witness a zombie attacking somebody while at dinner in a restaurant, and end up going to the same neighborhood in search of their kid. But I dont know what to do with everyone's families....

Eyeless1 got a reaction from Poeppel in Master List of Features and Traumas
I'd like to create a big list of features and traumas that we can use for giving ideas to our players. I imagine it would be pretty boring if our players only had the book examples to go off on.
As people add things Ill update this first post we can use it as a master list to draw from.

If your idea is a bit complex, you could give an explanation of how it could be applied.

For traumas, I will list them as: bad/worse/worst to follow the 1d/1w/1m template.

i dont have my book on my right this moment, but I'll add the book examples when I do.

As a member of the Rebel alliance, it is your duty to use the ships assigned to your command. While they may not all perform to the exact metrics of the Imperial navy, under your command their fighting spirit will more than make up for any deficiencies / differences between ships.

Eyeless1 reacted to MaverickNZ in Fighter stands: How many do they represent?
Neither, it represents 1 squadron, which is an arbitrary and relative strength.
FFG has been strongly influenced by their thinking about the fighters and ships from their experiences in developing X-Wing and it shows here that they have tried to capture the essence of the fighters character without being bogged down in minute balance details by specifying exact numbers of each ships in each squadron for comparison against each other.

I think the closest analogy might be to say it roughly represents 60-70ish points of X-Wing fighters
Which could be 3 X-Wings, 6 Tie Fighters, 1 Falcon with upgrades, or 3 B-Wings.  etc etc
(I say Falcon + upgrades because lets face it - noone fields a blank Falcon and if it was the only think you fielded then you would pimp it out to the max).

Edit, this theory of points can be cross-verified by looking at the Corvette (CR-90) which features in both X-Wing and Armada. An Armada corvette is about 44 points, which is about 2 hero squadrons. In X-Wing a corvette (with armaments) is about 130 points, which is about double the points value per squadron I mentioned. (60-70)

In Armada a single squadron of fighters would be unlikely to blow up a corvette, though Farlander, Rhymer or Luke might give it a bloody nose, and likewise in X-Wing 60-70ish points, depending on ship, against a kitted up Corvette, would also be hard pressed to take one out (but more possible) and if it was B-Wings or similar could bring it close to destruction.
This theory also ties in nicely with the introduction of the new incoming wave 2 rogues and villains - who are a similar points level for a single ship (+ upgrades), so fits this interpretation.

He increases hit points! Even the hit points of his own ship.
What worth would it be if at the end of the game all your ships have taken their normal hull points minus 1 of damage cards. They would still be alive even without Motti. Its all part of the game.

Eyeless1 reacted to wonderpug in Motti dying by RAW is extremely counter intuitive...
For you folks here who think Motti's effect is a permanent one time buff that happens at the start of the game, here's the argument from another thread that convinced me it's the other way.

Motti says: "The hull value of each friendly ship is increased according to its size class"

I totally get how that can read like Motti increases hull values everywhere, the deed is done, the buff is permanent, Motti isn't needed anymore.
    But Expanded Launchers says:
"The battery armament for your front hull zone is increased by 2 black dice"

This card uses the word 'increased', same as Motti.  If your opponent somehow makes you discard your Expanded Launchers, you wouldn't expect to continue having 2 extra black dice for the rest of the game, would you?  So if an increase to your armament isn't a permanent effect, it follows that an increase to your hull value wouldn't be permanent either.

if you get hit by a ship that has an effect to turn your defensive tokens over, they are turned over as part of the effect resolving. They dont reset until the end of the round. Even if you kill that enemy ship afterwards, your tokens wouldnt reset. They only reset at the end of the round. The rules are pretty clear on this.

With Motti has a continous effect, not one that only resolves when certain conditions are met---like attacking and rolling a *critical* to resolve an effect. Once Motti dies his continuous ability goes away, its the exact same for every other commander out there. Their abilities all stop working once they die, nobody is arguing over anybody else's ability.

I really like how several people explain the fluff behind Motti's ability. He has such a commanding pressence he can make crew work passed their percieved limits. Realistically, it is incredibly hard to completely destroy a warship. They can take a large amount of punishment. Occaisionally you get that lucky shot to the ammo storage and then the whole thing sinks. But otherwise you could still fight even if the ship is taking on water.
Also, just because a ship reaches its hull limit in damage doesnt mean that it "exploded". It could mean that the ships crew all decided to abandon ship, escape into hyperspace, that sort of thing.
So Motti increases the hit points of his ships because of his commanding pressence. If you dont continue to fight he is going to kill you. If his ships have taken their normal hull points of damage worth and then Motti dies, its the equivelent of the crews saying "well he aint around no more to threaten my life so screw this."
