Actually was looking at making Vapaad a force power, due it's Legends canonical description as a "state of mind" (Shatterpoint, by Mathew Stover) rather than a strict saber form. Overwhelming your opponent with strikes and relishing a fight, while maintaining your ability to cease hostilities, doesn't seem to mechanically lend itself to a single weapon in the first place. If it does happen to get it's own spec, I think Battlemaster seems like a good start for names. Maybe Slayer, or Killer. Not sure.

Only reason I wouldn't give HWK a system upgrade slot is that if you attach Accuracy Corrector, you basically have given it 2 dmg every round and bypassed having to pay points to outfit it with a more expensive armament. Thus rendering it's intended function (mitigation for a poor roll on ships with an already respectable primary weapon) and replaced it with 3 points for 200% max dmg and an even higher average dmg.

Shall we discuss morality?
goobacca replied to Comrade Cosmonaut's topic in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG
First off, let me state that I would wholesale throw out morality meters in nearly every video game/pen and paper RPG that they are introduced into for one reason; they always have a mechanical effect. And if you are a power gamer of any stripe or degree you will notice that to get the mechanical benefit you are after, you will have to play a certain way. Not a fan. However, I think that it is worth mentioning that in this system, the mechanical benefits seem relatively balanced when one takes into account both their ease of acquisition (also, departure), and their relatively minor benefits. Indeed, I believe this Easy Come, Easy Go idea means that, during one story arc, a PC will be seen as righteous within one narrative framework, and, even in the very next one, might be at odds with the role of "Good Guy" proper. So even though both fans and detractors seem to think that the binary morality system lacks nuance, it just doesn't sit with me. I think if we stop thinking Light=Good, Dark=Bad, then a virtual god**** cornucopia of possibilities appear. Suppose that, as multiple people have postulated before me, what the individuals that inhabit the universe of Star Wars call the Dark Side is just self-interest and the Light Side is the interests of the herd? Even the idea that community is of paramount importance can be taken to extremes and result in loss of freedoms or even lives of individuals. And conversely, self interest at it worst will harm those around when their desires do not coincide with yours. And even if that isn't StarWarsey enough for you (it isn't for me), there is always the option to simply change how you dole out conflict. It has been suggested that dropping conflict on characters for not adhering to their emotional strengths and weaknesses is a good substitute for the simple Light/Dark approach. The short of it is that, as with dual-wielding, one doesn't really need to reinvent the wheel just because the tread has worn off of the tires. At least if we simply adjust how we perceive a few arbitrary choices in diction. -
It is written that FFG will fly 100,000 light-years to spit in GW's eye on the Last Day. May the life of Jar Jar al'Binks be a vibroshiv for the Emperor's heart. May you always find hydrospanners and shade, jungle moon of my heart. Okay, really no more Monster, I swear. I really wanted to contribute something meaningful and have failed spectacularly. But I would like to state my enthusiasm for a timely answer, as my usual opponent will likely be making use of the "Instigator" title soon. . . . .

Maneuver tools and "give"
goobacca replied to thecactusman17's topic in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions
And lets be honest here. How many of us have already bought a second (or third) tool already? I bought a couple of extras and made them smaller so I have templates that are less board intrusive when I am going at slower speeds. My. God. I love this idea and curse you for the expenditures that will inevitably occur as a result. -
Torpedo Frigates in a gun line???
goobacca replied to Iskander4000's topic in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds
If you are running Assault torps already, what about General Dodonna? The ability to actually select the sorts of debilitating effects that face-up damage throws out there seems like it might be worthwhile for this list. Haven't tried it out myself yet, but I'm looking forward to doing so. In the games I have played so far with ships that I can dole out some face-up damage (without having to whittle away their shields first), it has really turned the tide. -
Yet another first Fleet build post...
goobacca replied to Admiral Sylva's topic in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds
I have not gotten to play a great deal of games with squadrons yet (still waiting for mine to arrive), but how do you feel about dumping Ackbar? If bringing your squadrons to bear is the focus, 38 seems like a heavy investment for the payoff you will get compared to something that runs, say, multiple torpedo frigates. Hell, with a little finagling, you could get 3 more squadrons, or possibly a 'vette. -
Starting a Force and Destiny game. One player is Human Jedi. He would like to train his Lightsaber skill up to 2 ranks during char-gen. The entry under Human in the species chapter specifies a non-career skill for the bonus rank. I take it that this must be selected after one has chosen a career and spec.Meaning that Lightsaber could not be chosen (as he is a Shii-Cho Knight and has chosen Lightsaber as a career skill). Therefore Humans still must spend XP to get Lightsaber to rank 2. Is this correct?
