  1. Hi guys. I mainly play with my son these days and he's 7.in fairness he's getting really good, a tricksky little devil. Anyway, his squad...

So my son LOVES Boba and has argued that since he is a bounty hunter, the rebels COULD in theory have hired him, as such I let him play him in his rebel squad. So we are now building towards some new fighters and wanted to get some opinions on lists.

A couple of restrictions, bare in mind he's only little!!

    He wants Luke and R2D2.

He wants Boba. He makes a lot of use of his skill to tidy up his movement to be fair.

His thinking is either a Y wing or another Firespray with whoever in it...

He's playing at 110 points (I'm giving him a points advantage so I can play a bit harder..)

What kind of load outs etc do u think could work for him?

  2. God I love bombers.those ships are lovely looking! I'm looking at running Vader with squad leader, two bombers and a tie, pos nightbeast as a nice list to play against my lad.

A little one - try the splash damage missiles.if toy can unload 3 early doors any list that relies on close proximity synergies suffers.the usual named X wing tri that is built to keep wedge up dislikes this as everything is hurt early, obv tie swarms lose REAL fast.

  3. Wow, such passion.

Is there no way we can accept these may work for you but they don't for most people?Or are we going all Warhammer community where we declare only certain build 'optimal' thus suggesting that everyone has to play the game and that the game, ergo, actually sucks.that is until someone wins with a different list and we try to make ourselves feel better by claiming the 'meta changed'?

Some people like it, most don't... Soo...?

  4. Oww, a chrome one would b quite nice.I have done cool ideas but need some time to plan them properly an need my advanced and bombers in my had to make sure the theory carries over!

  5. I think I may have to 'expand' that way too, simply because he's sort of my major gaming buddy.

I mean luckily my son is Star Wars mad and, though only 7, amazing fun to play with.

Yeah I only had the ships that came with the game with me, I'm up again in a few weeks withy lad and should have a bigger three wah game which may help but I fear he is a lost cause.

I like WH but honestly it's probebly about my 3rd or 4th fave mini game, he just refuses to play anything else

I'm starting to get a bit bored of it's complex rules and the limited influence you can have with a d6 system etc.

The level it's bothered me is prob a good indication of how much I like this game I guess.

  6. So tonight I tried to sell my WH buddy on X wing. It was a tough ask as he has no interest in Star Wars or sci fi in general but he is q gifted tactician and I thought the tactical nature of this game (which I rate over WH, which is a great narrative game but, for me, in no way competitive) would win him over.

To be honest I don't think he was sold. I think he got the idea of how it could be complex and fun but I don't think it inspired him, which is a shame.

I will still play and collect as my son loves the game and I can see my brother playing it casually from time to time but the real tactical stretch I was hoping for may be out the window :-(.

Anyone else had trouble selling this game?

  7. Couple of points - one, if u don't like how random this game is never play warhammer or other such games! The effect your decisions have on odds are more dramatic here than most.

Also, kids roll brilliantly... The dice gods love kids. I once played a game of LUDO with my lad and he finished without mine rolling a single 6 to get started, no 6 in 38 rolls!

I played my lad today and he smashed me, he had Luke an R2 and I had Mauler and nightbeast, he hammered me the little...

I'm not looking forward to him getting the models for his list. He wants bounty hunters to be able to p play on both sides due to their moral ambiguity which means I have to face 2 firesprays and Luke!

Chin up mate, I find trying to hard to force a win after a string of bad losses is the last thing u should do. My advice is play to your personal style, now is the time to ignore the internet!

  8. I find this a very interesting thread as I mainly play miniature games with my mate, who is ALL fantasy and does not like Sci Fi.  We play WH and have loved it over the years, I've got three armies worth so a hefty sum.  Having said that, I stopped buying GW products about a year ago for several reasons.  Their prices are of course silly and alternative models are so much more tempting now, but it's not just that but the treatment of the players and fans as well as the dodgy business practices.  They simply refuse to believe their are alternatives and are of the opinion 'you'll pay or you can go, we don’t need you'.  BOO!!

On top of this I agree with an earlier point about 'model fatigue'.  You spend a good 30 mins getting your (inevitably broken) models out and setting them up, only for one or two spells to take 35 of them off again.  I adore playing WH I really do but I can understand the appeal of a smaller game like this over it from this perspective.

Also, the tactics in warhammer are, for me, not in the same league as the skill required playing X-wing.  The level of random in WH is SO high and I feel that a great player in WH is often one who has spent 6 hours putting together a list and knows his details more.  It's still a game of tactics but the bigger swing on probabilities that your decisions make in X-wing makes it more of a competitive game for me.  Warhammer is an incredible narrative game but is too complex to be competitive.

Not having to paint or keep loads of ships is a massive thing for me after three WH armies... I don’t consider the X-wing ships fully painted, they are very good for pre paints but I will most likely customise or at least tidy up the models I have, but it’s that I don't HAVE to that I like.  No rush!

I will still play WH a lot with my mate, it's a great narrative game, if not a competitive one.  I'm at his next week for a games night and he has agreed to play X-wing 'out of curiosity', mainly because I have told him about it's excellent sales figures and it's great reputation in the tournament scenes.  I would never tell him this as he's one of my best friends and WH is kind of 'our thing' but I secretly hope it has some magic ability and at least becomes a regular addition.

In an ideal world I'd be playing both, but I do hope more WH players make their way to X-wing... not least because loads of them rely so much on 'power builds' and walking forward expecting to win cos of their list, should make for some more easy first rounds in tournies ;)

rd expecting to win cos of their list, should make for some more easy first rounds in tournies ;)

  9. Always interested in threads like this but find it confusing that people find it so hard to accept that someone else may have a different approach or tactical philosophy that may make things useful for one person and not another.

    Interesting analysis though guys.

  10. Cheers guys. I think I was obsessing over it being in the evade rules...

I'm currently just messing with the game with my son but will need to be sharper with my mate!

On the flip side I may have a more balanced battle than my poor Ties getting brutalized by his Boba;-). Before he had critted two agility off me then target locked, following turn he focused too...seriously overkill! Ha.

    Thanks guys.

  11. Hi everyone. Just started playing this with my son and am going to be introducing it yo my Warhammer buddy. Personally loving this game so far, very elegant rule structure.

Anyway, my stupid question. I've looked in the forum and read the book AND FAQ must have a blind spot for this...

Who picks which attack dice get evaded, or is there an order?

E.g. You roll 2 hits and 1 critical. I roll 2 evades. I want to evade the crit and a normal one, you want the crit to stand and the normal hits to miss.. How do you decide???

Cheers guys, loving this game and am VERY hopeful my WH mate gets into it.it would be a miracle, he doesn't like sci fi, but as much as I like WH I'm yearning for a more tactical challange, WH after a few years, has it's limits!
