You can always get the Open Beta to get a preliminary feeling of the system, and read a bunch of L5R fictions (all of them, except the novels, were posted on FFG site) to get a feel of the setting (for this matter, you can also download L5R LCG rulebook, since it have a short story and several pages explaining the seven Great Clans).

QuoteDuty
Scorpion Event - 0 Fate
Philosophy.
Limit 1 per deck.
Interrupt: When the effect of a card ability, ring effect or framework step would cause you to lose your last honor - cancel that effect, then gain 1 honor.
"I will be your villain, Hantei." - BayushiSo... how does it interacts with Draw Phase bidding? Say I'm at 1 honor, then I bid 5 and my opponent 3. We both reveal, I need to give him/her 2 honor, I will lose the game... "DUTY". I give the honor, then stay at 1 honor? I do not give any honor (due the cancel aspect) and then stay at 2 honor? The card buying, it will be cancelled as well?
A dishonored character will leave play due not having any fate, and I'm at 1 honor... "DUTY". The character stays in play and I get to stay at 2 honor?
I confess this card got me wth its wording. -

So the game is constantly checking for this too (and not only attachment legality)? I ask because this RRG passage:
QuoteSome constant abilities continuously seek a specific condition (denoted by words such as "during," "if," or "while"). The effects of such abilities are active any time the specified condition is met.
Storyteller's ability, being a constant, does not have any specific condition wording. If he was phrased "Friendly Crane characters gain Sincerity while they are honored" (or something like that), but as it is it seems he only searches the "honored condition" when he enters play, and doesn't keep checking afterwards.

QuoteEach honored Crane character you control gains sincerity.
Two single (and probably dumb) questions:
1) If Asahina Storyteller leaves play, the Honored Crane characters will lose Sincerity? I think yes, because of "Constant Abilities" on RRG:
QuoteConstant Abilities
A constant ability is any non-keyword ability whose text contains no boldface timing trigger defining its ability type. A constant ability becomes active as soon as its card enters play and remains active while the card is in play.2) If an Honored Crane character loses his/her Honored Status, the Sincerity keyword is lost, too?

Oh, sorry! I was talking about Karasu statement, "I reckon that we're going to be getting a new stronghold in each Dynasty Pack." Even if the other product pages did not mention new Strongholds, the description of BotK may be an indication of that we're getting them anyway in the Cycle.
Sure, the boxart for Tainted Lands surely is one of it, a Stronghold or a Province
-
It was already said in Breath of the Kami (first Elemental Cycle pack) product page that the pack will feature a new Stronghold.

Since FFG acquired L5R from Alderac, I'd REALLY love to see they getting Warlord: Saga of the Storm (which was an AEG game before being sold to Phoenix Interactive). Played for two long and wonderfull five years, had an ongoing storyline, the incredible Overlord Championships (a 25 special and powerfull deck to be challenged by the players and whoever wins gets the entire deck). The mix of D20 System and cardgame delivered a fluid, fun and impredicable cardgame where no deck or card alone could win just by being rare or powerfull.
The day FFG announces they acquired Warlord license would be the day I'd believe in miracles once again

Loved his Warlord arts. He'll be missed.

Similarly Way of the Scorpion can only dishonor a non-Scorpion clan character, so if you play a Seal of the Scorpion on a character then your opponent could not use Way of the Scorpion to dishonor it.
"Any character with Seal of the Crab"

Quote*Kaito Kosori
Phoenix Conflict Character
Fate 3 - 2 Military - 2 Political - 1 Glory
Monk. Shugenja. Air.
During each Air conflict, if you control at least 1 participating characterand if this character is in your home area, it contributes its skill to your side.Just as the name implies. The rules about "bowed characters do not contribute skill at the end of a conflict" affect a character who is contributing from home area? Since Kaito Kosori (bowed or not) is in home area, she isn't "participating" the Air conflict... but the rules affect only participating/attacking/defending characters (so home-Kosori will contribute even bowed) or affect any character regardless where he/she is?

There was this leak recently, and it made us here thinking...
QuoteMountaintop Statuary
Dragon Clan. Holding. +1 Strenght.
Temple.
Reaction: After this holding is turned faceup - move it onto your stronghold province.
Action: During a conflict at this province, sacrifice this holding. Choose an attacking character with printed cost 2 or lower - move that character home.Ok. So, when a Holding is revealed in any of the "normal" provinces, it stays there until the player discard it (or the province get broken, when the player is forced to discar faceup cards on it). With this, there's no way to have 2 or more holdings placed on the same province.
Then, the Reaction on "Mountaintop Statuary" allows me to put it on my Stronghold province. It doesn't says "as an attachment" or "attach to your stronghold". So I think "Statuary" stays there like in any "normal" province... But isn't the Stronghold already there? And if I already have a Statuary there, can I attach another one, for an additional +1 Strenght and two uses of its Actions?
There was any rule about more than one Holding on a province? Could it be that Statuary should be worded "attach it to your Stronghold" or something like that?

In Brazil we had at least one Kotei, in AEG-era. I wasn't a L5R player then, but several friends of mine were, and it was an incredible experience.
Now, L5R LCG is coming to Brazil in Portuguese (by Galápagos Jogos publisher), and the release has caused such a rufus - old players willing to return to the game they loved so much, and new players alike (me included). So it would be really, really wonderful if FFG do a Kotei here, too.

The World Champion decklist show two copies of a card named "For Rokugan"... I can't recall this card and can't find it in any preview or database. Anyone knows which card is it?

-
Public Forum itself puts the honor token on it. It means you have to break it twice (considering the player uses the Interrupt).

Hatamoto title was granted at the end of Swiss (The Crab Challenger was not a Hatamoto since the Hatamoto dropped to play netrunner).
Oh, so the Hatamoto isn't only "the clan's top player" - it is "the clan's top player in Swiss rounds". That was the bit I was mising.Anyone in the top four at a specified event that hasn't already earned Hatamoto from that particular event is awarded Hatamoto status.
That is news to me. Thanks, I'll add to the info for the playeres here.
-
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but for many (future) players here in my community all these different championships and titles are a little overwhelming. So I'm writing a kind of "guide" for them to understand it a little better. But there is one or two things I don't undertood (and again, it may sound like something dumb, but I prefer to make sure to avoid wrong explanations).
We had the first Hatamotos chosen from Kiku Matsuri. Ok. Then, we had the Winter Court, where we had new Hatamotos (the previous lost their titles, I think) and the Shogun. Is the Shogun a Hatamoto too (since he is obviously the highest ranked player of his/her clan), or not (because, well, he/she is already the Shogun, with all the important decisions to make)?
Hatamotos will now be chosen from Kotei tournaments, right? So, we'll have several (I mean capital SEVERAL) Hatamotos when the Winter Court 2018 takes place, since the title remains for two seasons (unless the player uses another clan, obviously)?
I'm looking through all OP pages, gathering infos so the players here could understand a little better, but this things are buggering me.

Quote"Cards in provinces aren't considered in play, and thus "under your control", therefore it will not meet the requirements."
If my Stronghold isn't in play, i cannot use its abilities, then?
So an ability like Shizuka Toshi (Action: During a conflict, bow this stronghold. Choose a participating character with skill 2 or lower – bow that character.). How could I use it if my Stronghold isn't "in play"?
And, from RR: "A player's stronghold is considered in play." -

Gaijin Customs does not "see" any unicorn cards you control that are not in play.
Thanks

So my Uni Stronghold is ok, then? -
QuoteGaijin Customs
Unicorn
Event. 1 Fate
Action: If you control aUnicorn-card, choose a non-Unicorn character - ready the chosen character. This card seems a little odd to me. The cost is "if you control a Uni card" (and then choose a non-Uni).
In my Unicorn deck, I control my Uni Stronghold. So the cost will be always paid?
The RR says I control any out-of-play area cards. So any Uni cards in my deck, discard and hand can pay for that?
the way it seems, Gaijin Customs can pay for itself, since it is a Uni card. o_O
There is something I am missing here? Somewhere saying "you can only pay for costs with cards in play"?EDIT: "Card abilities only interact with, and can only target, cards that are in play, unless the ability specifically refers to an out-of-play area or element."
This entry in RR is sufficient to address my question? O_O -
2 minutes ago, Khudzlin said:There is no minimum discard. So, if your opponent already has 4 or fewer cards in hand, you can't trigger the reaction, because it wouldn't change the game state.
I t was my first thought. The card would have a "to a minimum of 1" clause on it to work like my friends are arguing

Perk Clarification
in Fallout
Posted · Edited by Andre Bigler
The rulebooks states that, when you level up and choose a SPECIAL token you already have (after getting the two random tokens), you choose a perk from the same letter. But are we limited to 1 perk for each letter? If I have one of the "S" perks, can I get the second if I choose that letter again if I get it from the two random tokens?
