  1. If this were to come to fruition, the campaign should be from an imperial peacekeeping viewpoint - similar to the Old game TIE Fighter. Fighting scum as well as rebels.

Remember the Empire IS, and seen as such, the lawful government and protect it's citizens.

Unless those citizens have something the Empire wants, of course.

In the comics Vader is basically giving Jabba a monopoly on organized crime in that region on the condition that Jabba provide resources for Death Star II and not rock the boat too much.

  2. New starter beats old in most respects. The ships are better balanced against each other, the damage deck is better, and the T-70 is more useful than the T-65.

Avoid the TIE Advanced unless you're willing to proxy.

You only need one E-Wing, Defender, Phantom, or Starviper. You could get one of each but I wouldn't double up on any of these.

Rebel Aces is a better value than buying the two ships individually. It has better upgrades and pilots.

Interceptor is love, Interceptor is life.

And if you don't want to do that either i'm sorry you will just have 2 Guidance Chimps, there is no solution for you, but that's not FFG's fault nor anyone else's. You want to play the game, then buy their stuff!

Actually, it is precisely FFG's fault.  They have created a sales model based on bundling, which is becoming more and more untenable as time goes on.  It's also one that consumers are becoming less and less willing to accept - ask Comcast how bundling is working out for them these days.

I was under the impression that the real problem with Comcast is that their customer service department is run by Satan.

  4. At a certain point, it seems, you end up doing more bookkeeping with cardboard than playing with plastic toy space ships. For me, the biggest impediment to miniature gaming in general is the setup time, and anything that can be done to mitigate that is gravy. Harkening back to the original point, isn't it worth considering a system that does away with the monotonous task of collecting new cards just to play with old cards? It's a glass-half-empty approach, I guess; some want to praise FFG for making old things viable, and others feel that those old things could have been viable all along, had FFG not been so stubborn about altering the rules. Look at Autothrusters, for example. A good fix to a stale meta, certainly. But couldn't that also have been done by reducing the number of out-of-arc attack dice for PWT ships? That was the obvious fix from the get-go, and yet whole seasons went by without any acknowledgment from FFG that something was wrong.

Look, I will always defend the pay2win business model. You want to win so bad that you need 3PO? Go buy him. I just can't help but feel that there's a better way to expand the game without tacking on more bandaids, whether they cost money or not.

Good method to reduce setup time is to organize all upgrades by type into bags, leaving out excess copies. I also have all my pilots in a binder, loosely organized in a system that makes perfect sense to me (a chain of this is like this one, which was replaced by this eventually, and then we get into bombers...). Doesn't address most of your post but it's done wonders for me so I thought I'd share.

Humor is a hard thing to do correctly on forums. You may have intended to lighten the mood but new people won't be able to read that intent.

Yeah I try yo keep it in the family most of the time because the forum regulars know me just like I know them, you get me right Brah.

    :D

You weren't dealing with a regular and you knew that. If you really meant those as ways to lighten the mood and calm OP down, then you are one of the worst peacemakers I've ever met. I wish you knew the people I know, just so you could fully appreciate that sentence. You also have a history of responding to any criticism of FFG or the game itself with that BAD POST thing you made, instead of explaining why you disagree or (God forbid) actually considering that FFG does sometimes make bad decisions or prioritize profits over player happiness. I've seen you be pretty dismissive and rude about people's opinions and justify it as "dey just hate FFG" but the fact is you aren't really any better. In this case you're worse than OP, because even though he was being a bit entitled he still had a decent point about the downside of FFG's business model. You on the other hand belittled him, cheered on Captain Lackwit when he told OP to leave the forum, and then called OP a crybaby.

The number of likes you get is beside the point. You're still being a ****. This goes for several others as well but your insistence that "this is a happy place" while you insult people with image macros and belittle opinions you don't agree with is more aggravating than the other posts. Lackwit wasn't really any better, but at least he kept it to one or two posts and was honest about his hostility.

"Guidance Chips - Losing Faith in FFG"

    Reasons...

Was this supposed to clarify anything? Try using words instead of smilies, if you want people to understand what you're saying.

    OP, don't go away mad.

    OP, just go away.

Was there any need for this?

It seemed like a well thought out reasoned argument, he sounds like he has played the game for a while and has brought up a point that I believe has started to raise its head in recent releases, instead of reasoned discussion and debate he was confronted with this. I see his posts descend into frustration from countless negative replies and I think the reaction from some members of this site who have massive post counts who should know better, pretty **** shameful.

As I side note, we recently had a second edition of X wing( was it??) I think the better route would be to fix the ordanance problem at source rather then countless upgrade cards in various expansions, there may be something to take from GW model, new edition and the former one is obsolete, this would avoid the damage deck debacle we experienced over last two months.

I love this game but it's not perfect about time some people around here recognised the fact and let others air their issues.

Alright, I'm done.  I don't know what the **** is wrong with you people, but I'm out of the forum.  Thanks guys.

... or leaves screaming and suches.

You are a grown man, please act like one

Or not... we are over these cry babies. They bring the forum down and their FFG GRIPE postings are not cool... not at all.

    :)

It is good form as grown men to be amused by these screaming brats... ain't our kid!

    :D

He wasn't acting like a screaming kid, he just had a (bad) idea of how Guidance Chips should have been done. You're the one who made several posts insulting and heckling him. You're the one being a child. For someone who constantly tells people to stop being negative, you're awfully hostile to people that don't agree with you.

  8. Some of these pilots are ignored because they suck, not because they're pilot skill is too low. Fel's Wrath for example. Jonus will probably see a lot of play once Guidance Chips are out. Winged Gundark and a couple of the Interceptors are uncommon simply because there are much better choices for very similar costs. Still, good to see a list that acknowledges that an ability is still useful even if the pilot skill isn't really high or down in the budget area.

  9. Dutyfree, Frequency Jammer, and then just pile stress tokens onto them. From there you could also equip Toryn Farr or Slicer Tools, but I wouldn`t recommend using both. Personally I would lean towards Toryn Farr to strip tokens away from things but my usual opponent for Epic games likes using ordnance so I value the ability to strip target locks.

Note that using this setup in a list that also uses Tactician, R3-A2, and ion weaponry is considered hilarious and fun by people not playing against you.

  10. Munitions Failsafe is the real loser out of those three, because it costs points and only does anything if things are going badly. LRS are solid if you only need to fire one piece of ordnance at them. If you intend to load up or you have high pilot skill, you want Guidance Chips. Personally I like the Guidance Chips a lot more but Scimitars and others like them could benefit quite a bit from LRS.

  11. I wouldn't get an epic ship this early. Epic is a lot of fun, but I don't think it's actually possible for you to hit 300 points unless you start throwing in junk upgrades just to reach 300. In your position, I would grab a couple more ships I don't already have and then look into an epic ship later. Defenders are pretty unique, and the YT-2400 is a lot of fun to fly. I would advise against is getting another E-Wing, right now they basically exist because Corran Horn exists. If he's not flying it then why would anyone use it?

Also, the TIE Advanced is really weak without the upgrades that come with the Raider. If you can't proxy upgrades I would ignore it entirely for now. When you do go for an epic ship, I would suggest starting with the Raider because it makes owning four TIE Advanced a good thing and the Raider itself is scary as hell in epic.

  12. Not sure they're better than Interceptors, exactly. They handle close range better, but that green bank 2 is the hope of the universe. TAP will be very difficult to beat once we get up close but I suspect a PTL Interceptor can control the range they fight at more easily than the TAP can, thanks to a better selection of green overall. That said, Interceptor vs TAP puts a massive value on being able to move second if we assume they both have PTL. A-Wings are left out because they can't normally barrel roll, but Jake and Expert Handling Tycho can take everything I just said about the Interceptor and apply it to themselves.

  13.

And, as I said, first time this has ever occurred.  Every other mission supplies all of the required tokens within the expansion.

Well, I can't speak to missions specifically, but they have on occasion not included ABSOLUTELY everything you might need for a given expansion. The falcon expansion does not include an extra shield token for the shield upgrade, I think there has been an expansion it two recently that did not include TL tokens.... I think there have been one or two others.

The K-Wing and Punisher don't contain enough Cluster Mine and Connor Net tokens, assuming you used Extra Munitions and you deploy the second token while the first is still on the table. That was understandable, those tokens are pretty big.

  14.

Was he the only trooper with the power maul in the entire First Order? It seems weird that he's the only one in the movie.

As if on weapons day every one was given blasters. But he went nah.... I want dat maul.

He did have a blaster, though... he threw it on the ground and took the melee weapon off of his belt when he saw Finn put a lightsaber through his buddy's chest.

Probably overestimated Finn's ability to deflect the shot. If Finn could do that, TR-8R would have had no counter to it. So he went into melee, where he can at least try to block or dodge attacks. Then it turned out Finn wasn't very good with a lightsaber, but by that point the gun was on the ground way over there.

  15. It is absolutely possible to write a fantastic, engaging Star Wars story that does not take away the happy ending that culminates from 6 other movies and 140+ episodes.

Provided you don't want it to be a proper Star Wars story, sure. But if it's going to be any kind of war, then it's going to undo the upnote that ROTJ ended on. Also keep in mind that the Empire still had plenty of gas in the tank even after Death Star II was destroyed, even if most of it would have been scattered and relatively disorganized.

  16. That list looks like it costs 105 points on Yet Another Squad Builder. 104, since you only have one Failsafe

First thing is that you have a ton of points in secondary weapons. Lots of torpedoes and ion. I would tone that down, because you only get so many attacks and every turn you fire a torpedo is a turn you made that ion cannon a waste of 3/5 points. Munitions Failsafe isn't really that useful, usually with four dice you'll land at least one hit. grandmoffjoe is also very correct when he explains why Determination and R2-D2 aren't going to be very effective in this list.

I put together a list using only things you own that I think would serve you better, though I replaced the Y-Wing with a T-70. It still uses an A-Wing and a B-Wing, although I feel these pilots are much more dangerous.

    Jake Farrel

    -A-Wing Test Pilot

    -Push the Limit/Outmaneuver

    -Veteran Instincts/Wired

    -Proton Rockets

Remember that after you Push the Limit you won't be able to perform any more actions that turn! Think over the order you perform actions in so that you can always get Jake's free roll/boost and a third action if you need one. Veteran Instincts lets you dodge around opponents more easily but Wired would be good with Push the Limit. Outmaneuver and Wired should not be used together, you won't be stressed very often without PTL.

    Keyan Farlander

    -Push the Limit

    -Proton Torpedoes

Focus doesn't help much defensively with only 1 agility, so you'll usually want to roll and lock with your actions. You could also drop the torpedoes for B-Wing/E2 and Jan Ors, which lets you get your stress token as well as an evade and a target lock. Personally I dislike Proton Torpedoes but I'm not sure how much you want to use them. If they aren't important to you I would definitely go with the /E2+Jan Ors loadout. Keyan's primary weapon will hit about as hard as the torpedoes, possibly harder since he can use his target lock for rerolls.

    Ello Asty

    -BB-8/R2 Astromech

    -Integrated Astromech

    -Veteran Instincts

Talon rolls are cool. White talon rolls are even better. BB-8 provides a bit of witchcraft and trickery to you if you're willing to move slowly, but R2 will make shedding stress a lot easier. Like, a lot easier. Veteran Instincts purely because not much else was appealing for 1-2 points, but Determination isn't a bad alternative. If you shave some points elsewhere, you could use Predator. Predator always delivers.

  17. Was he the only trooper with the power maul in the entire First Order? It seems weird that he's the only one in the movie.

As if on weapons day every one was given blasters. But he went nah.... I want dat maul.

Might be a specialty, sort of like being a marksman or the heavy weapon guy. Sniper might be a better comparison, since that takes a lot of specialized training like that maul thing probably does.

Also, someone modded a TR-8R skin for Tryndamere into League of Legends.

  18. rey with a maul double saber would be badass. but can you imagine the nerd rage

Not a full on double blade like Maul had, just a handle around that size. I like the way it looks.

That and nerd rage has always been one of those things that's both hilarious and cringeworthy to see, and unless it's fully justified I tend to like it as a way to determine whose opinions I do or do not care about. I can handle disagreeing with people, but if they're losing their mind over nothing I'll want to remember to just ignore them when they claim that X is broken and will ruin the game. By comparison, if MajorJuggler or Osoroshi panics, I'll be a little worried.

I suspect he'll get them. Even in this one he has that Force Stasis thing that he does, and he shows a pretty versatile bag of tricks all things considered. He definitely would have won against Rey if not for his injury and exhaustion, but by their next fighbt she'll have training from Luke Skywalker himself and Kylor Ren will likely have finished his training. Should be one hell of a rematch.

Personally I'm hoping for an ESB type of vibe from the second movie where Kylo beats Rey in a rematch. And then of course the final showdown in the third movie where he gets defeated for the last time.

As a friend of mine put it, Kylo Ren has a posse. He's a member of the Knights of Ren, so it stands to reason that Rey may find herself outnumbered in the next movie. She's good but I don't think she's good enough to win a 2v1 without escaping or getting outside help. That and it would be fitting for everything to go sideways in the middle of the trilogy, before they manage to turn it around and win in the third part.

More distressing is the fact that if that happens we'll have to stop using shortening his name to Ren, but calling him Kylo just doesn't work for me. Full name it is, I guess. Unless he's their champion or something and the Ren title is exclusive to him, but I'm pretty sure it's basically the same as Darth except that it goes after your name instead of before it.

  19. Considering Rey used a staff to begin with, I'm hoping she ends up with a double ended lightsaber after Luke training :)

I have no problem with her force ability use in the film, after all Luke pulled the ability to grab a lightsaber out of the snow (and into his hand) from out of nowhere in Empire.

    She just got there faster.

And after the encounter with Ren where she resisted his mind reading, maybe she used the 'Jedi mind trick' to escape as she'd heard about it. (Jabba had heard about Jedi mind tricks, mentioning it as though they were common knowledge. Someone else mentions it in TPM as well, the guy who owned baby Vader. (sorry to bring up that atrocity, I do apologise)).

I would love to see her use something like Maul's lightsaber. Longer handle, maybe a longer blade as well. Or even make the handle nearly the size of her staff so that when the blade is ignited it's the same size as her mundane staff was? Sith have shown a tendency towards heavily customized lightsabers, it would be cool to see a Jedi adopt that tradition and go for something really unique.

I suppose in Maul's case I should say "lightsabers," since he basically built two identical lightsabers and made the pommels interlock. That's why he still had a functional weapon after Obi-Wan cut through the handle.

  20.

Kylo had been shot by a weapon that made a guy do a backflip earlier. As I recall, he was hunched over and at one point missed an opportunity to kill Finn when his wound acted up and distracted him. He then nearly beat Rey despite having already fought an uninjured, physically fit opponent that may have had close combat training. Honestly the fact that he didn't just collapse and die the first time she got the advantage is pretty impressive, and he isn't fully trained yet.

Also note that Rey has been in fights before, judging from her winning that 2v1 on Jakku. She may not know the ins and outs of lightsaber combat but she does have some skills to draw on. She was also furious at Ren for killing Han (and Finn, or so she thought) and we've consistently seen Force users get way more dangerous when they're angry.

You make several good points. It doesn't bother me as much as it does a lot of my fellow nerdy SW friends. It's more too much exposure/clinging onto old franchise stuff than any major flaw with the film. Fighting with a traditional staff should be completely different than wielding an energy blade with all its weight in the hilt and I'm not sure if skill with a staff would translate well to fencing against someone who has at least been familiar with their weapon the majority of their life.

Granted its fictional space magic, but I'm the kind of guy that LOVES the all unnecessary fluff like the 7 traditional forms of lightsaber combat and the advantages/disadvantages of Dooku's curved lightsaber hilt.

Rey and Kylo being on roughly the same level does create an interesting opportunity for the SW franchise to have the hero and villain level up together and keep things interesting. Really it just means Kylo will just need a few extra scenes of being a bad*** in the next film!

I suspect he'll get them. Even in this one he has that Force Stasis thing that he does, and he shows a pretty versatile bag of tricks all things considered. He definitely would have won against Rey if not for his injury and exhaustion, but by their next fight she'll have training from Luke Skywalker himself and Kylo Ren will likely have finished his training. Should be one hell of a rematch.
