Cotgrave got a reaction from rsdockery in Can Investigators give Resources to other Investigators?
I think that is bang on Parinor.
We have a small group here now, but all mostly new to table-top, save the Arkham Horror boardgame which we played for years. We used to run into a lot more problems of this general type before we started using the forums (thanks everyone!), mostly because we over-thinked everything.
We have a table rule here now that comes from one of the members of these forums, John Constantine, which we have dubbed "Constantine's Law of Thematic Nonsense" and each love to be the first one to bring it up during these little rule debates.
If John doesn't mind me quoting his response to us on another forum here:

There is an upcoming card that allows players to exchange resources. Based on that alone I would say you cannot (otherwise why create a card?)

Cotgrave got a reaction from Samea in Strange Solution
About jumping the shark.
Speaking from zip LCG experience, are not decks expected to change pretty radically from campaign to campaign as they are accepted as being heavily influenced by them? Unlike, let's say, a Netrunner deck which is geared solely toward the power of a player's competitive play-style? (Don't beat me up too hard for these generalizations! I'm new!)
I like the idea of knowing I will be losing a few of my precious and (somewhat) well refined deck of 30 cards to what are effectively 'campaign story' cards, myself.
As far as replay-ability and knowing what is going to happen, my wife and I have played these three scenario's enjoyably many times knowing what is going to happen. Sometimes leaning toward 'best results' with a good bit of number crunching and prearranging of decks, and sometimes leaning toward 'story telling/rpg', more casual perhaps with emphasis on the evolving story and rolling with the tentacles as they happen.
Heck, I cannot tell you how many times I've played CoC's 'The Haunting', with the same understanding.
I guess cards like Strange Solution are sort of very Lovecraftian, the doom of the narrative and environment is paramount - now right in the deck pushing out other choices, with players walking their best tight rope between fate and free will.
Of course guts, guns and grimoires are, you know, fun to throw at Ancient Ones who may or may not notice your sincere efforts at thwarting them in your quaint little space-time.. Won the first scenario by blowing up our masked friend and myself with dynamite. We managed to walk out of the house, I with a single (smoking) health left, though my Beat Cop ally may not forgive me.. But hey, yeah for our side!
Edit: clarity.

Cotgrave reacted to Hawkstrike in For those with two core sets.
(1) Yep.
(2) Sure, why not? She may do more of the heavy lifting for an episode as a result given a lower risk of failure, but it's a way to balance skill levels between players.

I really hope that this opinion is the MINORITY by a long shot ...
If you really want additional content, and you want that content to be well thought out, extensive, and fun to play, with a maximized chance of variability, then you should be prepared to PAY for it.
There is no successful business in the world that follows a model of:
Invest in developing game (time - months/years, money, personnel, etc.) Give game away for free Repeat And if you are foolish enough to believe that this IS a viable business model, then please start a gaming business, and produce games that I like, so that I can get everything for free.
I for one am prepared to pay reasonable costs for additional content.

Cotgrave got a reaction from Imperial scum in Can we have scenarios that doesn't directly involve monsters?
Love the the citizen model idea.
Investigators in the course of their 'activities' are bound to come to blows with opponents on both sides of the law. Opium dens, Speakeasy's and their 'owners', police officers, Spies, G-men (at least after 1928), the affluent club members of the Silver Twilight, and perhaps even other less scrupulous Investigator types.
Even a good rat swarm, or pack of alley dogs..
Bring it on!

Cotgrave reacted to HolySorcerer in This question again: How many core set to have the "complete" game?
The quick explanation is as follows. FFG can only include so many cards at any given pricepoint, for their LCG core sets this price point is $40. FFG now has the choice of giving players a wider variety of cards, or more duplicates of cards. FFG has decided that a larger variety is a better option for a core set to an LCG.
I, along with most others, agree that this is the correct choice.

Cotgrave reacted to Acanthus Lux in The Next Expansion
I hope they don't continue with the pattern of large box expansions having an Expedition Space sideboard. I mean, I'm pretty sure I'll buy and enjoy whatever they put out for the game, but I don't think the Amazon or Tunguska feel like the next most essential Mythos locations.
I agree that having a sideboard of one particular city would be out of scale with the rest of the game and very likely won't and shouldn't be done.
What I think could and should be done is a New England/Lovecraft Country sideboard. Other games are other games, and a Mythos game that can zoom in on Egypt but not on the Lovecraftian heartland would feel incomplete to me.
Speaking of Egypt, the New England board would probably be similar in that many of the spaces are connected by local paths to the hub of Arkham. The spaces that seem necessary to me would be: Dunwich (as a wilderness space for the true decrepit rural experience), Innsmouth (perhaps with its own Patron Ancient One Dagon?) and the Vermont Hills (for the Mi-Go to hang out in).
Other possible spaces would be:
Devil's Reef/Y'ha-nthlei as the first Sea space on a sideboard (has the problem of being awkwardly close to Innsmouth to be its own space...also the idea of investigators just kind of "hanging out" there is a little odd--but if there were a Deep One themed Ancient One of some sort, I think it might be important enough to let it be its own space--plus I think a New England Sideboard probably should have a Sea space, no?)
Salem and/or Kingsport. It seems like we just need one quaint, relatively lovely little town with a deep, dark history of both actual witchcraft AND the state sponsored murder of innocents out of fear of witchcraft (maybe I'm showing my ignorance about one or both locations to lump them together like that). Between the two Salem has instant name recognition but Kingsport has the advantage of being a Lovecraft creation.
And the sixth space...Jerusalem's Lot, Maine? Maybe not so likely...

Cotgrave got a reaction from Joe Boss Red Seven in MOM IS SOLD OUT EVERYWHERE...
Definitely looking forward to future expansions, if they choose to release a Campaign/Scenario pack as they did for for Road to Legend/Kindred Fire it will solidify and balance all the physical content now available. There will be nothing really left for anyone to question, and form a solid foundation to build from into its future.
Its just such a great game, and I can't wait to see more of it.
If I had a vote though, it would be more scenarios over more physical content: just take my money.
(Non-sequitur tip: for those who keep the Monster Token's out of the base or have re-based - a Scrabble Letter Rack makes a great physical Monster Drawer!)

Cotgrave reacted to SoyGreen in Suggestion - Quest Picker
Love the app - really well done - thanks FFG for breathing new life into this game.
One suggestion that I would REALLY love to have would be a quest picker.
There are nights we want to get in and play one quest - not need to start a campaign. Or maybe I want to introduce a few people to the game... I would love a one off to do this. Additionally - maybe I played a really awesome quest and want to run through it again with another buddy... I can think of several reasons this would be fantastic.
There is also the chance - I never get to see some of them as they are displayed randomly... I could play the campaign 10 times and not see them all.
Please consider a Quest Picker!
Also - one other idea would be to have the chance to pick a couple monster groups that would be in that quest...
Would be fun to choose the quest - and maybe there are 6 monster groups that would be spawned through the course of the quest - maybe the option to choose 3 monsters... just an idea.

Cotgrave reacted to tsuma534 in New expansion not announced yet!
On average, 196 days pass between one announcement and another. (Shortest wait - "Under the Pyramids" - 102 days; Longest wait - "Strange Remnants" - 258 days)
As of today - 25th August 2016,104 days have passed since last announcement.
Here's a very rough approximation when a new announcement can be expected (based on the average time given above).
tl;dr
The next expansion will probably hit the shelves around Christmas.

Cotgrave reacted to alexbobspoons in The Dunwich Legacy
As has also been suggested, including investigators in the deluxe means that players have them all before the cycle starts. As the cycles have been suggested as campaigns, you would need your chosen investigator right at the beginning so releasing one in a mid-cycle pack would make them difficult to include in an existing campaign playthrough.

Cotgrave reacted to mistermann in A Bit Mixed On This...
I definitely respect this viewpoint, but for me, I'll offer my own perspective.
This App turned MoM into a playable experience for me. As a 25 year veteran in the technology space, I'm around "apps" and technology every day. I embrace and welcome technology into my hobbies where that technology makes my hobby more enjoyable. This is precisely what the App for MoM2e has done for me.
Here's a few personal highlights:
1) I purchased MoM1e about 3 years ago. I grabbed it on an impulse after watching Rodney's awesome YouTube series on how to play. A buddy also purchased the game and after a couple poor setup experiences soured us on the entire game. My copy never even got it's cardboard punched. I should have sold it, but I just never got around to it. Needless to say, the App makes setup a breeze and eliminates the poor experience a simple mistake can cause. It also cuts the setup time to virtually nothing. A big win in my book.
2) I was never a fan of the puzzles in 1e (the few times I did play). While the puzzles remain, the way they are implemented in the app (and can be improved/enhanced) is a good use of technology. The tension added "feels" more real to me within the App.
3) Immersion. I have to admit, I am a big fan of the music and voiceovers in the App.
4) Much less "fiddly" than 1e. The app "manages" a ton of things behind the scenes and frees me up to enjoy the story and experience it along with everyone else. Something that I never felt in 1e.
5) Eliminates the OL. My number 1 complaint with MoM1e - I just didn't care for the OL component after experiencing it. I much prefer a coop experience and with an App, I can now get that in a system that's easy to setup, maintain, and immerse myself in.
6) So far, the App has made introducing new people to MoM much easier. Maybe the folks I play with are more accepting of the tech, I don't know. But it "feels" like this version of MoM is easier to grasp/play than what I remember (fully admit my initial poor experiences might have tainted my recollection of MoM1e).
Just offering my perspective. I believe technology is something that's penetrated our daily lives and will continue making impact in our hobby. I am very happy, thus far, with the MoM2e App and look forward to seeing how FFG expands the app beyond the 1e expansions into 2e.
