Cotgrave got a reaction from twincast in New Descent product teased
I love both modes, that said after a long, long string of enjoyable co-ops we brought out Last Night on Earth - I kind of forgot how great 1 vs Many is. That was the noisiest, most jokingly argumentative evening in a long time. That flow of crazily impractical or tactically brilliant moves (even when accidental), the plans that fall apart, or come together are somehow 'more' I think when against the constant unknown and changeable risk of playing a human opponent, even with the complete luck-fest that is LNoE. People were standing. We laughed, we fought.
Again, I love both modes - I want to go on adventures with my friends. I also like to trounce them into a fine sand (I am always the Overlord), or watch them rally toward victory as it slips through my fingers. I like to win and I like to lose, spectacularly, against their best efforts.
I own MANY co-ops, many of those are a bit puzzley, but I have been looking a fair bit more at 1 vs Many games as of late.

I love this thread.
In future editions (ahem) I would love to see the vast cast of characters and personalities found in Runebound 2e and Descent 1e make appearances - original Road to Legend and Sea of Blood Lieutenants I am looking at you! Aside from the well know Farrows.
As an aside, this from Heirs of Blood: "One month after Sir Alric was slain, Lord Merrick Farrow and Lady Eliza Cathori were wed.." So, she took her husbands name.

Fun fact Descent 1st edition actually had a stomach tile. Ice Wyrms could swallow a hero alive, in which case they would be placed on the stomach tile and continue their fight from the inside. https://www.descentinthedark.com/_s_/swallow.php

Cotgrave reacted to rugal in Fun Facts in Descent
1) Did you knew that some relics of the 2nd edition weren't in the 1st ? Like the Dawnblade (but more too) was a the "Stone cutter" gold item (no images found sorry ), and that the "Armor of elder kings", "Death touch rune" and "Cloak of time and space" were lost ? (but you can find them in my custom campaign "oath of the anvil"

It was a well know fact back at time, but maybe not more now
1) All items from Descent were named under "DJ" followed by a number. A misterious "DJ06" was never released
2) Did you know that Drakon V3 used miniatures from Descent 1st ? I'm almost sure that the game was meant to be added into Mennara universe at some point.
3) Did you knew that Descent first edition showed heroes on the box but that weren't in the box ? They were all added in the first expansion
4) Did you ever noticed that Reynhart and Quellen's miniature used their respective poses from the box art and not actually their final artworks on their hero sheets ?
4) About lair of the Wyrm again, did you ever noticed that Valyndra is the sole characters from the whole game to not have a real personnal artwork and the one used for her is actually a scratched image cropped from the box artwork ?

Well lets add some more fun facts! Don't hesitate to also share some with us all . I am not all knowing.
7) Did you know about creation process of Descent base game heroes artworks?
8) Did you know that even though heroes from box artwork does not exists in the game, 2 of them were released in the other FFG game Drakon 4th and integrated into Descent in the custom expansion Maze of the Drakon?
9) Did you know that in the Road to Legend (application) files were discovered unreleased heroes?
Dwarf female was later used in the Lost Legends artwork. Red Scorpion appeared in the Runebound 3rd The Gilded Blade expansion. Some full artworks of these characters were discovered:
Mad Carthos and Varikas the Dead
Red Scorpion

While Cathori could have been her maiden name before marrying Merrick, it was probably changed (for the better) as it was a little too "on the nose" of Lady Bathory

I know that this has been discussed long time ago, still thanks for the clarification!
And woah! That is a super find! That yellow background really camouflaged the artwork from me , good job!
Lets add 3 more fun facts then:
4) Did you know that the Ice Wyrms in the conversion kit have the Swallow ability which was replaced with the Entomb in the updated version and is no longer used on any monster in the game.
5) Do you know how Merrick Farrow bottom part of the robe looks like? Because artworks on the web are usually cropped, someone is painting it red and others keep the robe in the same color. Here is the full artwork:
6) Did you know that Lady Eliza Farrow used to be called Lady Cathori in Runebound 2nd and Sir Alric Farrow looked like a skeleton?

The older definition of the term fetish was actually just an object thought to be embued with a power. Loosely it also expanded to a wardrobe or other personal effects.
However, the object you mentioned from D1e is a bit misnamed, as typically fetishes were named after the thing the fetish was thought to embue.
So, for example, a creepy green idol with tentacles would be correctly identified as a c'thulhu fetish (object) - not a cultist fetish (which would have been a statue of a dude in a robe). The item in question looked like it BELONGED to beastmen, rather than channeling whatever freakish power the beastmen would have desired.
anyhoo, that same art was later cropped/used for Hex Tokens, it seems...

I was thinking about making this relaxing topic while we are all waiting for new FFG announcement. We all love Descent and there are some fun facts that are not well known if you don't own and know every possible Terrinoth game.
I will start with the 3 facts, feel free to share more and also react if you want to know more!
1) Did you know that Merriod appeared in the Runebound - The Island of Dread and looked like this?
2) Did you know that original tiles artwork contains unused artwork of magically locked doors and green water spaces on some tiles?
3) Did you know that even though most of the items from the first edition are included in the second edition, there are still some missing, like this talisman called "Beastman Fetish"? And also did you know that it was REALLY named like that?!
EDIT: See the comment bellow, it was also used on the hex tokens

Cotgrave reacted to any2cards in 2 new descent novels and a new edition of the Board game
Solid detective work by BGG user @solod:

Hmm...googling "Descent: Legends of the Dark" brought up this trademark registration:
https://uspto.report/TM/88962065
The quote is actually this on the official publishing company's website:
"Mighty warriors fight to save the realm from blood magic and evil, in this battle-soaked epic fantasy novel, introducing the brand new edition of the hugely popular game, Descent: Legends of the Dark"
https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/The-Shield-of-Daqan/D...
It seems like it's a new edition incoming...

Cotgrave got a reaction from kris40k in FFG done printing descent expansions?
Absolutely, no disagreement. Having worked a long while in a corporate advertising/campaign climate I have reason to suggest that this is actually pretty common. Its part of building expectation, this said, an author working on a tie-in book given this much freedom may make me wonder - and no judgement is implied here, I work in the same world - but it is no less possible or indeed probable. Again, just giving my reasoning for the passive speculation on my part. It is, as you say, likely exactly what's 'on the tin'.

Cotgrave reacted to kris40k in Official Descent Novel??
A curious takeaway from this is the name of the novel.
For instance, the "Arkham Horror" name is still being used for the books set in that shared world which include a variety of games.
This is using the new "Descent: Journeys in the Dark" instead of "Terrinoth", which was the name that replaced "Runebound" for all games in that shared world, which could either have been a mistake, or a conscious decision to put more emphasis and consumer attention on the Descent game.

This does seem like more of a multi-prong/multi-media approach to bring more attention to the IP, and whatever big project they have down the works.
Looking at this part of Aconyte Books site, it looks like this may be more of a push from Asmodee moving novels to a new business group, not necessarily FFG's business.
https://aconytebooks.com/news/incoming-here-are-our-first-titles/
https://aconytebooks.com/aconyte-books/
With Asmodee's plan of breaking up FFG into two separate companies, and moving the Terrinoth RPG (along with other RPGs) to Edge, FFG's site may not be up to date with all the different projects being shuffled around. They did recently post about the release of Blood of Baalshandor which was already in the works, but it looks like a couple more Arkham Horror novels are in the works with these new guys. Some cross-promotion would have been a good idea, though.
In any case, I'm pre-ordering the new Descent novel, thanks for finding that!

Must be a tie-in with the mysterious "descent-related, more ambitious than anything we've ever done" project they allegedly are working on.
Hopefully.

Cotgrave reacted to Dadler93 in Official Descent Novel??
It seems like it will be about the Heroes from the Labyrinth of Ruin expansion. Durik, Ulma, Logan and Dezera. Maybe Dezera will be a sort of antagonist?
I cool fan project would be to create a campaign book or a Valkyre campaign based on this novel, using components from the Base game and Labyrinth of Ruin. You could also create a Lieutenant card for Dezera using the new art on the cover, sort of like how Raythen and Serena works.

Cotgrave got a reaction from Oak tree in Official Descent Novel??
I will pick up anything Descent related, pre-ordered this already. It will be interesting to see what they do with this, and what its intent is. Usually tie in books mean there is something to tie in with (I am and apparently shall ever be hopeful from the slighted suggestion of 'news')!; odd that there was nothing posted about it here, again I thought I must have missed some announcement.

I wonder if that new Dezra art will be used in future games. It's pretty nice.
