  1. Back when I played 2nd edition I house ruled that the player who found the pools of Life (etc.) were not allowed to drink from it and had to come back, due to this very wording. But I am glad I found the proper rules for this by the time 4th edition came around And so are my friends!
  2. The point? Many modern games have new mechanisms, and one of those is called "Multiple Paths to Victory" for examples I recommend these threads: Multiple Paths to Victory vs One Path to Victory: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/911707/multiple-paths-victory-vs-one-path-victory Multiple paths to victory: https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/139213/multiple-paths-victory Game recommendation - multiple paths to victory: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1485783/game-recommendation-multiple-paths-victory Games with well executed multiple paths to victory?: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/385695/games-well-executed-multiple-paths-victory Means to an End >> Games With Multiple Victory Conditions: https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/7034/means-end-games-multiple-victory-conditions Of coarse even in these threads there are multiples of opinions. A person can always create their own house rules, but I wouldn't make a publisher change rules for this, except to have published variants.
  3. This of coarse ids your opinion, just like I have my own. I think opinions should stay out of rule books. I did at 1 time agree with you about the various ways to enter the Crown of Command, but now I am glad for them as Talisman is way too long. Talisman was the only non-mass market game I played for years, but now I have played hundreds of other games. Talisman is still my 11th favorite game of all time, but I maintain a top 100. Most games take less than 2 hours to play, and thus I have changed my mind about these other methods of arriving at the CoC. For those who are die hard Talisman only fans, I can understand the desire to keep such ideas, but I have since moved to a different thought process on this.
  4. I have spoken multiple times, requesting for a Deluxe Edition Talisman, now not probable since FFG is now not making the game, using a smaller board similar in size to 2nd edition. The idea was to make the common size of the spaces the size of a card. The problem was text would be very small. The idea of using iconography is a great idea. But using smart icons is usually missed. Since it is for yourself, which icons means what won't be an issue.
  5. I discovered another serious issue. The quote made here: http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2017/02/games-workshop-talisman-getting-new-edition.html and other locations states: We are delighted to announce that this classic and much loved game will be getting a new edition, with an expected release later this year. At the moment, we don’t have much info on what that release will look like or an exact date for you, but we’re sure it will be a great new edition of an already excellent game. But when you go to the original source it does NOT state that. Instead it states this: We are delighted to announce that this classic and much loved game will be returning soon. At the moment, we don’t have any more info on the release date, but we’ll let you know as and when we learn more. So stay tuned. I think Games Workshop changed their statement removing the idea of "At the moment, we don’t have much info on what that release will look like", as we know a straight reprint will make certain what it will look like. Thus if the original statement was made which is quoted in many places, Games Workshop let the community believe there was something new. Or they had plans for something new and changed their mind. And the media outlets have not printed the change. Shame on them.
  6. According to the following thread on BGG, particularly page 4, this is not a redesigned game, despite the false media statements, but only a reprint: https://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1730645/new-edition-2017-games-workshop/page/4

    Card Size?

If your at all involved in the board game scene, there are many sizes of cards in games, and this size is a size fairly often used, especially in many of FFG's games, but other companies make games with similar sized cards. I would refer you to the new version of RoboRally which has cards smaller than Talisman. Even the popular Ticket to Ride has small cards, but they did make an expansion which replaced the cards with bigger sizes. But I don't know of other games that ever did that. If you plan on board gaming, particularly with FFG games, get used to it.

  9. I would treat this like other games. Once you start playing social deduction games, where you can share information as well a lie, you never know what someone says is true or not, they just cannot reveal the cards.
  10. Haven't you heard the news and watched the posts? Talisman is out of print. Fantasy Flight Games can't even sell it any more. To ask this question, you will have to go to Games Workshop.
  11. You can always have Artscow print a game board on a place mat: http://www.artscow.com/photo-gifts/plate-mat/plate-mat-384
  12. Contact FFG for replacements.
  13. I created a board using the map editor in Heroes of Might & Magic 3 for a Dragon expansion in Talisman 2nd edition. See here: https://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/1951284/domagb?size=large I printed it in a large (legal size?) format at a printer and had them laminate it. Previously I have made boards for RoboRally, and have printed boards and glued them on old Checkers boards or cheap game boards from used toy stores.
  14. Highlands is great to get money, and is another place for pools! it also is great for leveling low level characters. The City is great after going to Highlands to spend your money!
  15. Somewhere on this forum is a very long debate about order of such things. I apologize I am not gonna find it and link to it. In the end I play by "play nice" rules, as some issues regarding this are unresolved. Just play nice, is my policy.
