After watching some of Sorastro's great videos I've decided to give it a go. Here's some pictures of the progress so far.

Finished off the board (mostly... I may add later).
Made transparent tables for the rest of the rooms and added the second floor of the turbolift where a terminal will go.
Now, I'm working on my temple board.
And now working on this next. I've only just started and I just started pouring the water feature etc. I need to construct fountains and tons of other stuff.

Added: transparent "holo projector table" and bacta tank.
Control console and table with a scout trooper helmet on it.
R2 unit at terminal in generator room.
Next up is second floor turbolift with terminal.

Added: Ewoks on some of the impassable tree squares.
Transparisteel walls to replace the wall lined sections on the map.
Control terminal in the shield generator room complete with round terminal access for R2. This will be what Rebels will interact with to auto-win the mission.

Just built the speeder shed. I just need to paint the leaves and add foliage.

So, I've been working on a 3d endor table using a layout like in the pics. Since the pics, I've cut down the map size slightly to fit onto a piece of foamboard. So far, I've glued down the speeder tiles and trees and now I need to work on the bunker itself. The wall ruins in the first pics are just there to visualize the structure.

After cutting it down, mounting it to foamboard and gluing down trees and speeders.

Well, the Storm Troopers were a lot messier than I had hoped.  I forgot just how small they are when watching your expert brush work pick out all the little details.

Anyway, here they are.  I'll get the E-web engineers done tomorrow as I have a game night tonight.

    Edit:
The picture shows a lot of fresh blaster damage.  However a lot of the scuffs don't have the glowing embers.  The angle I placed the minis and took the photo by coincidence just shows all the glowing damage.

I am very happy to hear that my pictures have proved useful to some other painters!
I've just posted more pictures to my site (along with a rumination on the true meaning of lightsaber battles in the original trilogy)...

Here are some highlights - I hope they also are helpful to you all. Thanks for looking!

Well, that's the first group out of the way.  They weren't too terrible for my first ever paint jobs.  I'm sure the dry brushing could have went a lot better and a grey spray primer would have been better than dark green but I worked with what I had.

Just done the bases and varnishing for the Royal Guard that I painted after my droids on Sunday.  They are really quite messy and the highlights are a bit over the top.  Better than plain plastic on the table at least.  Plus I felt like I learned a bit doing them.
So without any further ado here are my second ever painted minis.

    Edit:
Next up the Storm troopers.  That may help learn some brush control before doing the pesky officers and attempting flesh colours.

Also protip for anyone else new to this.  Do not spray the varnish in an enclosed room with no open windows.  That makes you dizzy rather fast!

I just finished my E-Web Engineers and am happy with how they came out.

I thinned the paint pretty well and tried to approach the more delicate areas with caution. I really enjoyed dry brushing the gun as well as adding the wear and tear with the silver highlights. I couldn't resist adding a little glowing ember to the left shoulder of the regular engineer.

    Thanks, Sorastro!

    Sorastro,

Thank you for having such a well laid out tutorial. I've never picked up a brush in my life; however, the depth and method you approach the hobby really make it appealing.

My stormtroopers turned out as good as I could hope for but I was hoping anyone could give some tips for a more consistent highlighting layer and countering a loss of detail.

Thanks again, Sorastro. I look forward to your future videos.

I've been using Sorastro's Painting guides and I thought I'd post my progress here. I hadn't painted miniatures in 10 years and I was pretty awful at it as a kid.

I worked on my probe droids last night and thanks to these guides they look really nice.

The left two droids have one or two more cycles of wash left but the night was getting late.

Thanks Sorastro (Not I used Black primer and painted over it with uniform grey base color, then followed all the steps in the video).

Couldn't wait as my campaign character is Mak. Tried the techniques you did and looks ok. Green pants and shirt looked christmas-ish so I black washed and got what I wanted.

I really like the old look of the Heavy Troopers, very fitting for the Old Republic era IMO.

Being the SW nut that I am, I ordered the basic game box. I like it so far.

    Storm Trooper and Luke!

The minis are medium quality plastic, similar to Mantics Mars Attack. The also share the same amount of mold lines.
I would love to see a dedicated high quality miniature release, resin cast. I really think that the softy plastic with all the mold lines is giving the original sculpt ne credit at all...

The sculpts have a 1990s feel, chunky and more in style to Games Workshop minis. I like them!

Here is the always wanted comparison shot:

If you need further motivation for painting your minis. Take a look at the pictures from our last session. I am still stunned by how well the transparent bases for the miniatures work (the idea of a friend of mine who also implemented it and painted the main bulk to our minis so far).
The boxes, the terminal and other elements were bought in our local wargaming store and we use them instead of most of the markers that come with the game.
