Thanks, but I'll stick with cardboard and use the money that box costs to buy 3 other games.

I like Greedo's low cost, but slow on the draw is pretty hard to use against Rebels that can one-shot you.  Giving Rebels free actions is counter productive.

My first thought would be Jabba/Terro outside of Jabba's Realm, Bossk/Inquisitor in it, although there are "better" choices.  Sorrin turning jetpack troopers into stun machines is probably completely OP.  Blaise is cheap and can be a solid too.

If the Rebels don't split up, it will take them too long and they'll get overwhelmed.  If they do split up, try to keep them split up by keeping the ones at the lower terminal stuck down there with a Wampa and reinforcements.  Once you get a unique on the board, protect them and try to utilize their abilities, the Rebels should be too pressed to properly deal with them, or if they do, they'll get overwhelmed.

If you just try to slow them down while minimizing your loses the first couple rounds, you should be able to build up enough forces to overwhelm them.

I don't remember what open groups I had.  Probably storm troopers, officer and droid, but there are a lot of things that would work well, eweb, jet pack trooper, ISB agents etc.  Heck, maybe bust out the Rancor.

There is already a balancing factor in the game for Rebels that most people ignore, and that is crates.
A loss where you grab all the crates isn't all that different than a win where you grab none.
Generally your games shouldn't be so out of whack that you can grab all crates and still win, or lose and grab none.
For the Imperials who are getting stomped you should be able to guarantee a few wins with agenda cards.
So really, if there is an imbalance happening, it will almost always come down to a player simply being worse at the game than the others.  That's just how games that aren't coin flips work.
To compensate for bad play, if it's the Rebel side, which it most often is as they're more complicated, allowing respeccing their XP choices or selling equipment for full cost can be helpful.  But you're never going to be able to get around the idiot playing Gideon that insists he needs the best gun and will never use Command.

You should just rip those cards up.  2 actions to remove, plus you lose the actions for equipment, usually 2, plus you lose the resources for equipment.  So for a gun and a flashlight for instance you're losing 4 actions and 6 resources.  This is almost the worst card in the game, only a couple super boss monsters are as bad.

I'd recommend house ruling that you can split deployments across points so Fenn doesn't wipe stuff out with blast, and increase threat level by 1.  I think the Imperials will still probably lose, but it should be closer.

The detail on Legion minis are potato grade, same as IA, compared to their competition where you have to put the minis together yourself.  I don't really see slightly less bad as being a benefit.  Also with the price of things like the AT-ST being TWICE what IA's is, they've become the most expensive kid on the block, which doesn't work very well with potato miniatures.

I assume you meant better.  It is faster and decisions matter more both of which are qualities that make a game better, more so than prettier models,  paying twice as much and having a third the features, although selling inferior product as a veblen good works well for Apple.  IA skirmish plays very well with 30-40 models both on and off board.  I do have experience with Legion, clearly you aren't familiar with things like Gencon or Youtube.  Vehicle rules are better in IA.
The Legion AT-ST is a bit bigger than Weiss, not a lot.  You're looking at $0.001 more plastic and $0.10 more packaging.

If you're running a table-sized Surface, sure, but even on my tablet sized one passing it around doesn't work very well as a "game."  You'd want the board anyway.  You can already get some gridded whiteboard tiles or a large presentation sized pad of gridded paper from an office supply store and draw stuff out and proxy miniatures, print out cards etc.  It's pretty easy to play IA with nothing purchased.  People don't do it.

You ARE recording that level of detail, you're just doing it with physical dice and physical tokens and such.  The app should be able to do it faster.

Well it looks just like the Descent app and their paper versions.  If you haven't played the Descent version, don't get your hopes up.  "It does not know the position of figures on the map; it does not keep track of damage or conditions suffered; and it does not roll dice for the players."  There is NO AI, so what this really does is turn the Rebel players into the Imperial player as well, having the Rebels moving the Imperial units, rolling their dice and making decisions for them.  It's not as good as having an Imperial player.  The main benefit from the apps are a) maps are revealed as you go so an exploration element is added that isn't normally in the campaign, and b) new missions.

Pre-painted is a lot of it, simplicity is a fair bit too.  The billion cards and complex boards and such make IA unappealing to a lot of people.  X-Wing is more iconic as well and looks and feels more like Star Wars than some little guys on a map which really looks and feels nothing like Star Wars.
A big part of it too is competition.  The only real competition right now to X-wing is Armada but X-Wing came first.  For IA there are dozens if not hundreds of similar popular games like Zombicide, Space Hulk, Hero Quest and a line of GW games, Ravenloft and a line of WotC D&D games, Mice and Mystics etc. and even Descent.

The activation tokens not allowing you to do something pretty much completely breaks the "game" as your strong character stands there stupidly not being able to lift something.  It also means that combats make no sense as you'll have characters getting all muddled up doing each other's actions.
Even if you weren't spending 99% of your time listening to someone read a book and 1% "making a decision" this would have no immersion what so ever.  There is no consistency and no support from the game to promote role-playing.  In fact role-playing would be getting in the way of the game.
As a single player "game" it's fine, it's similar to the CYOA books that were popular in the 80s and 90s, but bigger and without dice.  As a multi-player "game" it's pretty terrible unless your idea of a game is to listen to someone read a book and then answer a question about what was just read every half hour or so.

I am tempering people's wild expectations with reality.  There are thousands of FtP MMO and RPG apps out there and people have a tendency to think they're getting a full featured program with AI and health tracking like them rather than something that makes you do all the grunt work and decision making.  The app is what it is, but it does not "replace the Imperial player" in the way most people expect.

That is done in the Descent app as well.  Remember, there is no health or position being tracked by the app, so if it tells a Storm Trooper to attack Gideon, and Gideon is on the other side of the map, the Storm Trooper is going to do something stupid... like ignore the 1 health remaining Rebel right beside it and run off after Gideon.
It does look a bit more refined than the Descent app, for instance in that app everything would try to get to range 3, where as here different units will try to get to different ranges, although that makes sense due to the range numbers differing a lot more.

Yes, I know the capabilities of the app very well.  You will not be getting a true solo experience anymore than what you already have.  In fact in many ways it is a much worse solo experience since the Imperial figures will play very stupidly, and you're better off not following the app with it's random activation selection and nearest figure targeting which makes missions FAR easier than they would otherwise be.  Descent, and I assume this app will as well, alters play by giving units additional random abilities each round like extra movement or bonus damage, in order to account for how badly it plays, this changes the game significantly.  So in effect you aren't even getting an Imperial Assault solo play, you're getting some other game that is similar to Imperial assault.

You can already play it solo by rolling dice for the Imperial figures, moving Imperial figures and making decisions for them.  The app isn't changing anything in that regard.  All it is doing is giving you less options for the Imperial figures, making them do some really stupid things sometimes.

Probably to help account for how stupid and ineffectual the Imperial units are thanks to not having an AI.  For instance in the Descent app they will almost always attack the closest hero, which means you can very easily protect heavily wounded heroes with a little bit of positioning.

Except Riot Troopers and Sentry Droids are edging out Storm Troopers and eStorm Troopers and they were the bar.  Hired Guns used to be playable but are now pretty much pointless with Jet Pack Troopers and Riot Troopers.  Probe Droids became a really rare pick with Sentry Droids and they had always been decent etc.

Turns out if you make Heavy Storm Troopers and HK Assassin Droids with shorter range but cheaper, they're really really strong.
We're half way though our first Heart of the Empire campaign and dear god Riot Troopers suck to play against.   I'm finding that there is little point killing one unless I can kill both because otherwise at 2 points to reinforce they're far and away the most cost effective unit.  And killing two with starter weapons or even tier 1 weapons usually means a lot of attacks spent.
The Sentry droids aren't quite so bad, but they are better than probe droids and they may even edge out storm troopers.  However they're certainly strong and the 5 health means you won't be getting "free" kills with blasts, cleaves and pings like you can with the typical 3 health units.
