This is more than a little hitch.  This is a a teribbly flawed product that is not usable in its present state, and oh by the way, you can’t really play the full game without it.  There really is no excuse for how bad it is.  They should have let the fans build it.  However, I’m excited about 2.0 overall.  But a spade is still a spade, and the squad builder sucks.

Star Trek Attack Wing does that and it’s a nightmare. Lousy play testing and design means some abilities are far too powerful on some ships.
Separating the two makes design and balance that much harder.
No offence, but it’s a terrible idea and I’m glad FFG hasn’t done it.

It's just another variable that complicates keeping those costs in check. Defiling like that also prevents them from making pilot abilities tied to the capabilities of a specific ship. It lessens design space while adding balance complexity.

Because of the difficulty of costing synergy effects. Luke is probably a lot more dangerous in an E-Wing.

They made torpedoes high accuracy and high damage and missiles low accuracy and low damage.  I would have preferred to have ordnance break away from dice = accuracy and damage model.

    Hello everyone.
I am the author of this simulator.
I am big fan of X-Wing Miniatures Game, have big collection of all factions and regulary visit (and sometimes even win) local tournaments.
I created this simulator for casual solo play vs AI, it is free (no in-game purchases, ads etc) and open-source.
I hope that this simulator will increase popularity of the real game, and you will buy a lot of miniatures that you tried in it. I will be very unhappy if my game will replace real miniatures for someone - so, please, continue support business of FFG/LFL, they created awesome product!
I think that one day I will stop it's development due to request of licence owners, but I think that open-source code still will live in web, supported by another fans.
If I will not get that request in few neastest days, version 0.4.0 will be released on Friday, with new content, bugfixes, and new awesome squad builder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWMWvfp9zIc
    Have fun and fly casual!

Darthfish got a reaction from DarthEnderX in $30 and $40 for new SMALL BASE Ships. Pure exploitation hath begun
I've bought heavy into this game, I have multiples (3 or 4 ) of every ship from every wave up 10 wave 10, I have one each of those I think.  I have all the epics, save the new scum one.
I'm a casual player, not a hardcore player.  3 observations:
    1. price keeps climbing.  roughly 10% increase last year and about a 30% increase on the silencer at least
    2. More power creep, more complex interactions, lots of new actions on the bar (like reinforce on the wookie ship)  makes a lot of earlier wave ships obsolete. also makes it harder for a casual player to keep up.  (I used to play some small local tournaments, I don't think i'd even want to try it now.)
    3. maybe it's just me, but the waves keep coming faster and faster, and some of the ships are really obscure.  How many different ties are there now?
Happy about finally having the gunboat, but I don't know about the rest.  I certainly don't think I'll be buying multiples going foward, as I really don't care about the wookie fighter and ships like it.  I can see my expenditures on this game going down a lot, along with my interest, sadly.
More isn't always better.  Just my opinion.

I don't see why people use Rebels as their standard for scaling.  This is the same cartoon that has represented Star Destroyers as giraffe-necked, TIEs as stubby-winged, and humanoids as having big anime-like eyes.  Why would A-Wings be the only thing in the show that is to scale, despite being radically different from both the RotJ and the Episode 8 variant A-Wings on film screens?

If you want to use Rebels as your gold standard for scaling that is fine, but personally I don't find it persuasive.

The fact still remains that you could fit both bubble turrets from the FFG Resistance Bomber model into an X-Wing's cockpit, but the X-Wing cockpit should be far too small to accommodate two spherical cases that entirely surround humanoids sitting in gunner chairs.  Now, maybe in Episode 8 we'll find that those dumb Hatchimal Porgies or whatever man all the gunning bubbles, but that seems unlikely given that the LEGO Resistance Bomber set comes with so many human crew and no Hatchimals.

Just dont buy them. That is how FFG hears you. If we all buy them for that price then they will continue. This is a test.

The Bomber is a large base. But yea, while the Silencer probably wouldn't fit in the "medium" expansion, we should definately be upset about the $30 price point.

I would definitely move to a 2.0 granted it was actual fixes and not just a money grab. An upgrade kit like they did with Descent 1.0 - 2.0 would help transition the existing playerbase over, I think.

More than is the point there.  He's saying "if they make me spend an unreasonable amount to upgrade, I'd quit".  I think the talk of rebuying ships is where most people draw the line of reason.  I read that line a little more aggressive the first time I read it myself, but when I reread it's pretty reasonable.

A second edition that required me to buy new ships would be a second edition I would not be playing.  Simple as that.  I've got too much invested in the game at this point to start over again.

Why would you have to rebuy ships?  Minis games do this all the time.  All you usually have to buy is some kind of card conversion pack to get the updated stats for everything you already own.

This has been discussed many times.  A lot of people have stated they will quit playing if they have to re-buy all of their ships again.
I would personally love to see a new edition with some changes and improvements, but only if they do manage to allow people to play with their existing ships.

This thread is ironically timed as I just reorganized my stuff, getting the Armada ships into easier access. (I've been wanting to play again, soon...)
My collection doesn't include anything beyond Wave 2- yet, I'm mostly happy with it. (As a tie in to an upcoming RPG/X-wing/Armada campaign, I would like to get the two newer squadron packs, mostly for the Decimator, but the other ships will certainly see some use, too.)
I get that FFG needs to put out new product to keep the game alive, but coming from X-wing, I think there's such a thing as card bloat. I'd rather keep MY Armada fairly simply, more about maneuvers and gameplay than what amounts to deck building.
I love Armada, but I have realized that I can happily enjoy it with my severely outdated fleet, with little drive to add anything more to it.
TLDR: I am not worried about any new upgrades or expansions.
