Nothing lame about a card called Sentinel, and the name would basically advertise what it does.

    Well...
SWL28 is Premium Trooper Bases.  SWL29 is Premium Large Bases.  SWL30 is most likely Premium "Extra Large" Bases.  We know that size exists from the Occupier.  It would make total sense to design and assign a product number along with the other bases, but then not announce or release the product until later when the bases are in the wild.  I'd expect an announcement and release after the Occupier comes out.

Red dice without surge are better than black dice with surge.
Master of the Force 1 is better than none.
Speed 1 only moves with Relentless mean that Vader doesn’t care about difficult terrain.
With saber throw he can double move and throw a saber at range 2, effectively further than Luke can single move and shoot at range 2, and he does it with more impact and more pierce, and one more die.
Part of why Vader costs so many points is because he puts out so much damage and it isn’t reduced at all until he dies. You can’t attrit his dice down, you can’t panic him, you can’t suppress him.
    short story: Vader is fine.

So called mudtroopers are imperial navy uniforms with a gas mask.
That’s not a distinct type, it’s an equipment upgrade.

I got a feeling this is going to be one of those, sorry, but that's what's happening instances. All of the crew from Rebels is now headed for this game. The droids and Lando almost certainly are too. The Empire will match that. And really, that's more the norm for any tabletop game, not just Legion. Units are generic, there don't need to be 32 varieties of them, players as a whole don't respond well to that, and they don't want to buy it all either. Characters are easier to field, cheaper to buy, and more able to handle novel rules and abilities.

To be fair, while you CAN put 4 heroes on the table (currently the maximum), which will take up more than half your list, there is at least one thing greatly reducing the attractiveness of that option: Command Cards. If you really take 4 characters, that means you need to choose only 6 cards from their 12 options (not counting the 6 non-unique options available). Considering the strength of unique units is largely tied in with these cards, it seems to me that for each unique character you choose above 2, you are drastically reducing the efficiency of ALL of your heroes as you do this. You will also run into major command problems as you may NEED to command one of your heroes, but simply have no way to do it as you've already used up their card. I feel the sweet spot is 2-3, as with 2 you can take all of their cards, and with 3, if the combo is right, you can mix and match and still get the strengths of all of your units.
On another note, I love the rank and file (my favorite commander is Veers, and my favorite list is Weiss ATST with Veers), what I love about named characters is each one drastically changes the, umm, character of an army, usually due to their command cards. I feel named characters really changes up the variability of the game by magnitudes. We will get more 'normal' troops for sure, and we must NOT forget that the expansion before Sabine and Bossk are two generic heavies. Also, this expansion was simply to get us up to 2 operatives.
In short, I feel we needn't be afraid of new commanders/operatives, as it really does fuel list diversity. I feel the fact that you need to take a minimum of 3 corps, and they are still the most efficient units in the game (and should remain so), helps alot.

Well, when they announced the game, the designers went to great length to emphasize that the focus of the game would be the NAMED commanders and that the armies would change radically in their playstyle based on which commander you took.  I kind of think they've been doing what they said they would.

Since no one else has pointed this out yet, this is the first announcement that breaks the existing release cycle.  We have been getting stuff for one faction, then the other, then both in a 3-month cycle since last April. Now we are going to be getting two multi-faction releases in a row with the new vehicles in April and the operatives in May.

I have no intention of trying to guess what FFG will release after these two expansions but they have shown that the "usual" release cycle may have just been changed. We were expecting 12 months of releases when the game dropped almost a year ago, and this may be the first release of the "new" stuff that wasn't already developed when the game released.

Looks like FFG is popping the cork on characters then. With Rebels the cartoon, possibly all the bounty hunters (even 4-LOM?!), and then any remaining OT characters who had a speaking line that FFG wants to use, the game could get much more character focused and cinematic. Which is what I thought it would be originally.

A lot of more arcane things like steath and terrain manipulation will not be:
Balanced Believable even in a universe where you can levitate an X-Wing Fun At least not without making a purposeful distinction between highly artificial and temporary tournament rules and the "real" game. Which mainstream wargames companies seem loathe to do these days.

We've got releases through May... maybe this summer we get Tauntaun Riders and Dewback Riders so each army can joust. I'm not confident about more Original releases this year after that, though. Don't they have to change over their factory space from time to time so every game they make can get produced?

    Thought for the day.
Whether we're talking about the sport with the round ball or the other sport where the ball makes contact with a foot less than 20 times per game (on average), a typical Legion 3' x 6' battlefield when scaled up is smaller than a football field.
    It's an interesting perspective.
(If you don't scale it up, you can fit over 2500 Legion battlefields in there)

Honestly there's no way I'd play this game larger than 800 points. It takes long enough to play a game of 800 points.

I'm sad to hear this news. I'm not super fond of  the terrain rules (prefer the way other miniatures games handle terrain), and imho heroes are a bit too powerful, but its still a fantastic game. Twin dials is brilliant, and so is the way to avoid buckets of dice.
IMHO what hurt this game was the two factions on launch, and the price. There should have been 4 factions on launch, one of which should have been Elves - so many people I demo-ed the game to when the game launched said game looks nice, but I'll wait for the Elves. And imho, the fourth faction should have been another popular race such as dwarves or orcs.  The price! In Australia, a unit expansion was AU$45 each (X wing small ships are AU$28-30). So when I wanted to add a 2x2 cavalry unit to my force, $90! When I added a 3 x 1 crossbowmen unit, $90!
L5R is a good ip. I would not be surprised if FFG launched a skirmish miniatures game for L5R in the future (there's already a couple skirmish medieval Samurai games about). If it had some innovations like Runewars did, I would probably give it a shot.
