frankelee reacted to ScummyRebel in I really want the First Order (and Resistance) and why they are viable as factions.
That pretty much sums up the sequel trilogy — start with the original look, streamline it, and then toss it back at the audience as if it’s new. They didn’t even bother trying to create a new storyline for the demise of the New Republic. “Oh they’re all hanging out in one solar system that we obliterate” - wait, a galaxy wide government with military and civilian assets only in one solar system? 🤔 They just went straight back to “oh look underdog freedom fighters against evil Nazi analog”.
While the films had flaws, the prequel era had original story and fit into the larger Star Wars story that had already been told. Namely, the decline of a republic and how it transitions to the evil empire we all know from the original trilogy.

It was one of the questions asked in the Q&A part of the FFG panel at Adepticon. They said that there will be a rules update that says they can't be used at the same time.

frankelee reacted to Jake the Hutt in Sprues Advantages/Disadvantages
I've been buying and assembling sprues of miniatures for 20 years. I can't remember ever damaging something cutting it off the sprue. I think your concerns are overblown.
I'm welcoming this change, most especially because it will very likely result in better looking models. Legion releases have been getting better and better, but even the best of them are poor compared to every other game I play.

Hard pass for me. Hated the movies, no interest in this 'era' of the SW verse.

Don't you love cards that are out of date basically upon release

I shake my fist at the sky and curse Dewback Scout because I know he must have been working behind the scenes to bring about my loss.

Doubtful. Legion doesn't have Dewbacks yet. Once it does, it will take the lead, since X-wing will never have Dewbacks.

frankelee reacted to TauntaunScout in Legion outpacing X-Wing
It never ceases to puzzle me how GW stays on top. I glance over the GW aisle in the store now and think "wtf?" instead "cool!" like I used to. The new stuff is just weird looking to me, and has risen in price very quickly compared to inflation. And worse, there's a lot of awesome models competing for my money now. Whereas they used to corner the market on quality and had an unrivaled market compared to lots of cool little companies, prior to internet mail order. Now that I can find any company anywhere, and buy from them... yeah. No way yet another-other Septuimius Segundiazus Andromedon Space Marines kit or yet another-other squad of Bloody Bled Bloodbane Bloodbleeders of Khorne is getting my money. The product line has mostly become an intellectually/artistically inbred self-parody. There's so much great stuff to pick from and GW's stuff has literally outpaced college tuition against inflation. For the unaware, college tuition is the poster child for something which is seen as having increased too quickly compared to other products.

Look at the board traffic difference between x-wing and legion. It's not even close.
-
frankelee reacted to Arbitrator in Legion outpacing X-Wing
I doubt it. X-Wing is a lot easier to pick-up and play by virtue of it coming pre-modelled/painted. Wargamers are also riding Games Workshop's glorified marketing campaign which is keeping Legion down, at least in my experience.

frankelee reacted to Thraug in ATST and Airspeeder still extremely overcosted
A quick evaluation of the recently revealed pilot cards makes me believe they will be the only options to take, making both Wiess and Wedge not worth taking.
For the ATST, the loss of Wiess means less dice for attacking. The average per die goes up, but less are rolled. Still not worthy of its points.
For the T47, yes it has survivability issues, so the Outer Rim Speeder Jockey will help it survive a bit longer. But its damage output still remains woefully low for a 175+ unit so it's still weak for its points.
Both will still be unused in competitive play.

not when they die faster than 60 points of Rebel troopers in cover with Dodge

We need Imperial Navy Troopers!
The Rebels got their snow unit, we need our ship unit.

frankelee got a reaction from TauntaunScout in Next Imperial Corps and Support Speculation
My money is will get a corps unit of big-helmets like we see on the Imperial Officer upgrade card. Though someone on the Facebook group made a good argument that Sandtroopers could be made into something like Recon Troopers.
If we're getting more elites I like the idea of Range Troopers more than Shoretroopers. They look cooler and Shoretroopers have pretty limited use as so few battles happen on a shore.

frankelee reacted to TauntaunScout in Release Schedule Speculation...
Unfortunately they're only a good deal if you accept the premise that the GW models are a good value to begin with. I often look at the "start collecting" boxes as ALMOST as cheap as what the stuff would need to cost to pique my interest if sold individually!
But the stuff they do with the alternate core sets is usually a great value. Dice, rulebook, etc with a selection of normal (not push-fit) models for two factions and usually a limited edition hero or something besides. Those are great. I got like 3 of the Blood Angels vs Tyranids one! I got 3 of Deathwatch: Overkill too! They've made others. Eldar vs Admech or something, Chaos s Chaos(!), Orks vs Space Wolves....

frankelee reacted to aniron in Release Schedule Speculation...
I think FFG are still looking to grow this game, and as such will tailor their products to the new starters who held off for clone wars, rather than to repeat customers at the expense of the newcomers.
It's massively offputting to require a new GAR or CIS player to go out and buy the GCW starter to get stuff like generic command cards, or even if they are included to go chase down multiple SKU's that may or may not be in stock to be able to use their newly bought army set.
Better to just have it all in a box, and the discount is good enough that repeat customers shouldn't be complaining about the redundant parts.

frankelee reacted to arnoldrew in WYSIWYG and the New Variety of Models
The game appears to be pretty clear that, officially, you need to use the models that represent that unit in an "official" game; local tournaments will vary, of course. I think you should tend towards thinking of your opponent and how likely doing this is to cause him confusion in the middle of a game. If you have a Pathfinder unit or two on the table, I wouldn't be very comfortable with you mixing Pathfinder minis into other units. I'd be fine with you using a normal Rebel Trooper leader as a Rebel Officer as long as every Rebel Trooper unit in your army had the Rebel Officer upgrade, and so on. I have enough to keep track of without having to remember what is what and worry about confusing your units for those of a completely different type.

Hey all!
Thought I would share the VERY start of my 10mm Hoth project... if there was an off-topic Legion forum I'd post there, but there isn't, soooo...
This is all proof-of-concept so far, but I'm generally pleased with them.
Here are some of the Imperial forces...
... and some of the Rebel forces!
For more photos and info (including about the dice frames and close ups of the heroes), please come by the blog!
