"...I have chosen to test this station's destructive power on your home planet of Alderaan."
"NO! Alderaan is peaceful! We have no weapons! You can't possibly..."
"You would prefer another target? A MILITARY target? Then, name the system.  I grow tired of asking this, so it will be the last time: Where is the rebel base?"
    "Dantooine.  They're on Dantooine."
"There, you see, Lord Vader, she can be reasonable.  Continue with the operation, you may fire when ready."

    "WHAT?!"
"You're far too trusting. Dantooine is far to remote to make an effective demonstration, but don't worry, we will deal with your rebel friends soon enough."

ter·ror·ism ˈterəˌrizəm/ noun noun: terrorism the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims."FEAR will keep the local systems in line.  Fear of this battle station."

This is a government whose head of state has just dissolved the representative council of its constituency and intends to control its population through an official "doctrine of terror" whereby it indiscriminately murders millions, if not billions, of its own citizens in order to A) test the effectiveness of its WMD, B) prove its willingness to use said WMD against its own citizens, and C) hold the lives of innocent citizens hostage as a form of interrogation against anyone accused (but not tried or convicted) of treason.
So, you're saying that you were convinced that this government is the goodguys?
I find it hard to believe that anyone raised in a western nation post 9/11 could see the Empire as anything but villains after they attacked a civilian target in an attempt to punish a military organization and effect political change through terror.

it's a sliding scale balanced thusly:

Opportunity (how easy is thing A to kill?)
Positioning (if I can kill this thing, how will that open my maneuvers/protect my pilots next turn?)

    ---against---

Danger (how hard is this thing going to screw me? Especially in the late game...)
Irrational, raw, seething hatred for the target in question

I had my doubts on BB8 after the first teaser, figuring that it was a digital addition that was going to appear out of place. My concerns dissipated quickly when I learned he was a practical model that actually works and moves like that. Now I'm just impressed.

I live in London, a popular city you might have heard of. Due to various reasons there was just one single Store Championship here this year. I've been playing X-Wing for 9 months now and this Store Championship season was my first, so I was quite excited to test myself against excellent, varied players. Luckily, England is a relatively small country and London has excellent transport links.

I went to 7 Store Championships, ranging from 30 minutes to 3 hours away. In the end, I placed 2nd, 2nd, 3rd and within Top 8 another two times. Never quite managed to get that elusive plaque. But it doesn't matter.

In these last two months I have improved my game massively. I've learned new strategies, come up against squad builds I never would have thought of, met some lovely people and even had a couple of coincidental grudge matches! I've become a better player, and hopefully challenged others to improve their game at the same time.

People who complain about "prize sniping" aren't seeing the bigger picture. We're all here, talking about this, because we love playing this miniatures game. Getting seven chances to travel and practice my skills against the best players in the country was a fantastic experience. I've given a few of my prizes away to deserving runner-ups in the process, because who really needs seven dice bags.

Ultimately, practice (and luck) paid off. Despite coming 2nd in one tournament, I received the regional bye. The final at this tournament was between myself and a player I know well who had, by sheer coincidence, won a store championship the very day before. Since you can't gain two byes for one regional, it gets handed down to the next highest placing player (FFG Rules Pack).

It's been a great spring. I'm totally stoked for the UK Regionals next month, and hope to meet again many of the players across South England for some glorious rematches.

Having your opponent forget about Deadman's Switch is the best use for it. I was playing a game against a list that had N'Dru with Dead Man's switch and totally forgot about it. My Soontir Fel had one hull left, his N'dru had two. Our other remaining ships were out of range or arc. Soontir ends up with a shot on N'dru's side. Wanting to make sure I got a kill shot, I boosted Soontir into one for his extra red die. Soontir gets the kill shot and blows himself up.  Time ran out the next round giving my opponent the win.

Vader needs to be a part of a larger group.  This way if your opponent decided to go after Vader first, the rest of your fleet will intervene and make them suffer for their lack of faith in their power.

    Vader+Predator+Title+ATC+EU
    3x Tempest+Title+AC

Predator can be replaced with Lone Wolf to bring the point total down to 99.  This would make Vader a real bear in the end game, but personally I like the offense now rather than later.

For a little more firepower and PS:

    Vader+Lone Wolf+Title+ATC+EU
    Alozen+Predator+Title+ATC
    Vessery

I like this list because of the way the points are spread out.  There is no clear single threat.  Vessery will probably be ignored and that is a mistake that will cost your opponent dearly.

Why would the out-of-town players assume that they had an advantage over the locals? A lot of the fun in traveling for X-wing is playing against new players. At our last store championship, we had a player that flew in to play; he placed at Worlds last year, and it was great to have him elevate the level of competition.

There's no issue at all as long as everyone flies casual.   The moment someone throws around the term "prize sniping", (or the reverse which I guess would be "seal clubbing") it becomes real ugly.

Take this as a challenge for your local game store to ramp up your own gaming so that you can defeat the members of the  (friendly) rivals from out of town in the next big tournament.   It's like a lot of martial arts movies.  Your dojo has been challenged!
