Battalia got a reaction from Digitalkiller in E-wing Announcement Up
i was kind of surprised not to see a "Whistler" upgrade card... Oh well, guess I'll just have to wait until it comes with his X-wing pilot card

On a more related note, I do like the idea of the E-Wing, but I'm pretty worried that the named pilots will be epic play only. The E-Wing may be great, but I don't think it's 50 points of great especially to an already point heavy rebel army.

I very much like the squad idea and am in the same boat.  I only have 1 expansion of imperial aces.  I think Osoroshii's advice of a targeting computer isn't bad.  Target lock w/ Focus is very good with push the limit.

On a side note, I've been trying to come up with a squad I love with 3 or more squints and absolutely love Daredevil. Makes Tie interceptors so maneuverable.  But sadly, I haven't developed a squad I can use it effectively in.  Perhaps I'll try your build, but replace Push the Limit with Daredevil.

Hey y'all, it's been a while, but I finally got the decals for Red Squadron done:

At least, until I think up some new panels for Reds 7-11.

Now on to Gold Squadron and Red Squadron's Y-wing markings.

After that, the markings for TIE Fighters.

Don't try to apply these yet until I get them finalized. I'm going to arrange them in such a way that you only have to apply a few decals (like 9 or 10) to mark up a whole ship. This way you can mark the entire squadron in very little time.

I've had this notion in my head for a while.

There are a lot of talented painters on this forum, myself included, but some people either don't have the time or ability to paint miniatures. Maybe it's because of poor eyesight, poor hand/eye coordination, or they just don't need to spend a heck of a lot of time practicing just to paint some tiny little X-wing miniatures.

So I figured why not help those people by creating a set of accurate decals in order to replicate Red Squadron, circa the Battle of Yavin? And while I'm at it, why not do up Gold Squadron, Rogue Squadron, and add some TIE Fighter elite markings?

Here's a preview of what I've got so far:

I'm starting with the major hull panel colors for each ship (including some hypothetical ships flown by Reds Seven through Eleven), then I'll add some weathering and battle damage, accurate to the miniatures of course, and finally I'll test them out on my minis and get them picture-perfect. After that, I'll do up decals to represent Gold Squadron, then the TIE Fighter decals, and finally the Rogues circa the Bacta War.

Then I'll put the file on Media-Fire for everyone to download and print on decal paper.

I might put in some really tiny pirate and New Republic markings as well, and maybe some Imperial logos.

    UPDATE (5/16/2015):

The decals for Red Squadron are finished, boyos! Here's a link in case you don't want to scroll through 8 pages of forum posts:

Like everyone here, any would be great as I'll grab them all eventually, and probably at least 2 of each, but while I was reading the replies to this thread I noticed quite a bit of hate for the E-Wing particularly. Is this purely an aesthetic choice or am I missing something? Personally I'd love to pick up an E-Wing or two, tourney prize or not.

Was playing a match yesterday where my list SHOULD have torn his apart, but with 3-4 red dice I never once got more than 1 hit, and with 3 evade dice, never once rolled more than 1 evade. The sheer lack of eye balls was astonishing, never rolled so many blanks before. But I digress, after he attacked with the falcon, rolling 3 hits with 3 dice and vader rolled 3 blanks knocking him out, I simply grabbed my smartphone, went to http://nooooooooooooooo.com/ hit the button, and removed vader without a word.

Battalia got a reaction from Digitalkiller in What do u think of the imperial aces box so far ?
Well, there are 3 things that come to mind:

    1) You can't give away cards from other packs too easily or you remove the point in buying those packs. That said, I don't think anybody would miss the no-name low skill cards.

    2) You don't have those cards which makes you want them over the cards you do have. Understandable, but not everyone else is missing those cards, so we don't feel the gap that you do.

    3) If you have too much of a pilot card and are never going to use them (in the case of having 8, but only having 4 models like you do) You can give one or two to friends who are interested but less fortunate.

That said, this is all from someone who's single box of imperial aces is still coming in the mail

I like the green one, but the green is a little matt and removes some details. Perhaps a black "wash" like GW sells applied to the cracks could bring out the details the paint removed would help? Just a friendly idea.

I really don't see the need for a new dice, we have enough of them in the game already, everyone just doesn't realize it.

Luke in an X-wing rolls a special evasion dice that magically turns one of eyes to an evade. Shocking! Why would you make people invest in new dice that have small differences when you can simply throw out an upgrade card that says "Any uncanceled crit instead deal 2 face down damage cards"

    Silly people being silly.

Battalia got a reaction from yoink101 in X-Wing Custom Campaign (Input appreciated)
So I was thinking of starting a little friendly campaign with a local player in my area, me acting more of a "dungeon master" than an actual player. Here is the general idea:

I was thinking of placing the campaign in the events of the first x-wing series books with Corran Horn, following the events roughly. In the book they start with the 12 x-wings and an imperial shuttle. Instead the rebel player will be given a set amount of points (100 probably) to build his squad, plus the shuttle. Any ships and upgrades may be changed swapped around, but not sold.

    General ideas:

Rebel player will be given a handful of targets to choose from, each with a vague hint of risk and reward.

Any rebel named pilots EV (extra vehicular, aka ship destroyed) will be recovered by the victorious player automatically, or the rebel player may call in the shuttle seperatly at any point in the game and using the red 0 when the base is over the pilot, will extract them if the shuttle survives.

Any ship may flee the board normally, or if hyperspace capable, must be facing their board side, complete a max straight forward maneuver the turn previous (as the run up to light speed) then may declare it has gone to light speed when revealing his dial (no matter what it shows.)

If the rebel player is victorious, I would take a RNG on a destroyed ship, calculating a number between 0 and one quarter value to determine how much salvage is left. An attack dice on each upgrade card (minus pilot upgrades) and on a hit or crit they are destroyed. The only exception to this is ships that have been knocked out with an ion cannon. These are awarded in full to the rebel player to use as he sees fit, but may only be piloted by rookies.

    My goals:

to grow the rebel players army to 200 from the first victory, then to 300 for the final battle.

Some targets may be too strong for the rebel player, and if not properly disengaged from can cripple his fleet which may result in a "empire wins" ending.

Create an environment where sacrificing pilots for "the greater good" can be more of a mistake than disengaging them and getting them to safety would be.

What do you guys think? Am I missing anything? Am I overestimating any values somewhere? Any and all feedback is appreciated. We would both be doing this purely for fun, not for any sort of competitiveness.

You are allowed to copy as many cards as you want for your own play and if your opponant allows it, but for tournies and other legit places you can only use official copies.

For stands, odds are as you increase your collection you will begin to generate "spares" as you will simply have more stands (and ships) then you are using, so you can simply use stands from another ship instead. Another alternative is to buy new rods from a 3rd party.

As for maneuver dials they would be the most difficult to replace. Could try copying another dial and printing it out to make your own... But that requires owning another copy of that ship in the first place.

For myself, I simply went out and bought a fishing tackle box. If you grab a decent enough one, it should be able to store everything safely and for quite cheap. As long as you pack up properly after play, you shouldn't lose any pieces.
